Live@Central: The Farm at Briggs Wednesday, December 4 • 6:15 p.m. • Spears Fellowship Hall Briggs Elementary School is the ONLY elementary school in South Carolina that offers a Farm-to-School program to all students grades K-6. In 2015 Briggs was awarded a grant from the SC Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture to establish the farm. The Farm includes gardens, a chicken coop, a compost bin, and a classroom observation beehive; in addition, a satellite garden was recently established at Lucas Park. Many Briggs parents have related that their children come home every week excited about all the amazing things they have learned in Ag Ed! Students use all five senses as they explore and learn about agriculture and hopefully the Briggs kids will be able to influence other children to put down their hand-held devices and engage with the environment around them. Jeff Murrie, the coordinator of The Farm at Briggs, will join us at Live@Central on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:15 p.m. in Spears Fellowship Hall to share his passion for this unique program with us.
