  • AIMS GAMES 2021 / Initial Letter to Parents and Caregivers
March 2021 AIMS GAMES 2021 / Initial Letter to Parents and Caregivers The AIMS Games (www.nzaimsport.co.nz/) is an International Intermediate Schools Sporting Championship, which will be attended this year by more than 330 schools from throughout New Zealand. This week-long sports event is held annually in Mt Maunganui, Tauranga, and will take place from Saturday 4 September to Friday 10 September 2021. Various venues around Tauranga will be used to cater for the various sports codes represented at this tournament. This year, it is anticipated that over 11,000 competitors will attend to compete in over 20 sports, including: Badminton, Basketball, BMX Racing, Cross Country + Cross Country, Football, Futsal, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Indoor Bowls, Netball, Hip Hop, Aerobics, Rock Climbing, Rippa Rugby, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Yachting. Check the AIMS Website for a full list of sporting codes. Once again we intend to send a substantial team, covering a number of sporting codes. It is the policy of the school to send our high performing athletes. Consideration is given to the level that competitors have achieved in previous SEZ competitions, the size of the overall group, the cost implications to parents and the school, disruption to the school and classroom programmes and logistical requirements. The school has reserved the right to determine which sports we will enter and which students will attend. The school will finalise the sporting codes we will enter by the end of April. The cost of the registration to compete in the tournament, plus food, transport, accommodation and all other costs will need to be met by you.

We are hoping for smooth sailing this year with minimal covid-19 disruptions! Whether you are new or returning, we look forward to working alongside you and are very committed to encouraging and promoting lifelong learning and involvement in competitive or social sport and physical activity for all. We know that success in sport is a result of the effort and commitment from students, coaches and from parents, whanau and volunteers. We are fortunate to have staff members who are experienced in teaching, coaching and competing in a range of sporting codes and are therefore very well-equipped to mentor students towards meeting their personal bests. However, with such large participation numbers we simply do not have enough staff to cover all teams and events. Therefore we value the help and support from our parent and whanau community who enable us to help provide the best possible support to our students. I have no doubt that 2021 will be yet another enjoyable and successful year for all involved. Warm Regards, Nicola Kaiwai Director of Sport 3 A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL Through our very nature, Albany Junior High School is recognised as having both the expertise and the experience of leading high quality learning for adolescents.
