ENVIRONMENT TEAM REPORT Last year the Enviro Team started regenerating the school garden after it had been left neglected for the last couple of years. With the help of the incredible gardening volunteer, Mrs Evans, we have been able to regenerate this garden to be able to grow a lot of vegetables. Last Friday we harvested our first crop, which included butter beans, potatoes, silver beet, and parsley. As a community initiative we have started up, we are donating these to JPC families who find it hard to provide healthy food for their family. We were able to give this produce to two families as well as eggs and pumpkins that Mrs Evans bought in from her self-sufficient home. We have loved learning how to grow and nurture these amazing plants and can’t wait to see how our garden continues to flourish so we can help more families within our community. If you are interested in helping us take action, the enviro team are always looking for more enthusiastic people to help make our planet a better place to make sustainable and positive change. We do gardening every Friday behind C block so make sure you come along. IMMUNISATION FORMS A reminder to parents and caregivers to please fill in and return immunisation forms ASAP! CLAYTARGET REPORT There was a cold start to the day in Taupo on Thursday. The boy’s team may have been missing Liam Adams, they couldn't match their score from the Thames competition. Our new shooters continue to impress though. Jake Atkinson and Craig Carter posting the highest scores in the boy’s squad. The girls team continued their winning streak. Rebecca Collins and Kate Julian (right) winning the girls team event and Rebecca Collins finishing first lady!! James Collins Squad Manager & Coach BASKETBALL REPORT The Rotorua local schools’ season is well underway, with grading rounds nearly complete. All 10 teams are having mix results but improving each game. Coaches are getting to know their players. Season runs until end of September. Ryan Eggers has been appointed as Captain of Basketball, assisting me to manage the season. Ryan is also coaching the Senior Girls Social team. JPC has a squad of 16 umpires that take turns each week doing referee duty. Senior Boys premium side travelled away to Whakatane last week, to compete against the top eight teams in the bays (Poverty and BOP). The team of eleven players were reduced to only six by departure time at 7am. The six had a tough ask ahead, against some of the best. The six boys hung in there to secure a finals berth against Mt Maunganui College, who had beaten Rotorua Boys High earlier in the day. This was game 4 being played at 5pm, so it was a going to be tough to knock over Mt Maunganui with fatigue being a big factor, with only I reserve player all day. JPC ended up with 2nd, all credit must go to the team of 6: Ryan Eggers, Ben Comber, Callen Christensen, Jakeb Holt, Nelson Howe, and Layton Waititi. Some of the boys had to also referee in between their games. Thank you to all the students who helped on JPC duty Thursday night which finish about 10pm. There is a change coming for duties, which I took the opportunity to discuss with Rotorua Basketball on Thursday night. More information to follow in coming days. Important dates: Friday 4th June - Year 7 & 8 Invitational Basketball tournament. Friday 6th August – BOP Junior Basketball Championships. Friday 13th August – BOP Senior Basketball Championships. (Division 1 and 2) Saturday 28th – Tuesday 31st August – NZ Junior Basketball Zone 2 Championships. Wednesday 1st – Saturday 5th September – NZ Senior Basketball Zone 2 Championships. Thank you to all the parents that come along on a cold winters night to support our teams. Big thank you to all the Coaches. Arthur Faulkner Manager of Basketball JPC 2021 CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS Some great results: Leah Field, Sam McFarlane, Hannah Gapes follow up their efforts from last year by winning the next level up.
