Consultation on the proposal to build a secondary department
LONDON BOROUGH OF LAMBETH
Consultations on a proposal to build a secondary department at Woodmansterne School to open in 2017. This will result in Woodmasterne becoming an all through school accommodating both primary and secondary pupils.
What is this proposal about? The London Borough of Lambeth would like your views on a proposal to build a mixed non- denominational secondary department on the existing Woodmansterne site. The secondary department will provide 180 places each year. It is proposed that the school will admit children from September 2017 and be fully operational in the new buildings by March 2018.
Woodmansterne Secondary department will move into a building on the current school site. The London Borough of Lambeth has a statutory duty to ensure that there are sufficient school places available for children resident in Lambeth who require school places. This proposal seeks to address this projected need. This is your opportunity to let us know what you think about the proposal.

Consultation on the proposal to build a secondary department
School places in Lambeth
Due to the unprecedented increase in the number of school places needed across London in recent years, local authorities have been required to open additional classes in schools.
To date, the pressure for places within Lambeth has been most acute in the primary phase. While there are still a number of primary expansion projects under way, it is likely that more work in the next few years will be to create additional secondary places. The first of these is converting Woodmansterne to become an all-through school with secondary provision.
The Pupil Place Planning and Capital Projects report indicated a need for additional secondary places in the borough and proposed the expansion of Woodmansterne Primary School to an all through school with the addition of a 6FE new build secondary department to be built on part of the existing Woodmansterne Primary School site. Estimated demand requires the school to open for in-take and be fully operational from March 2018.
How will the proposal be delivered?
Lambeth will allow the widest consultation to take place during the concept design, developing on from the outline planning consent received in 2015. The developed design will fully coordinate the fundamental structure and services schemes necessary for the new planning application. Support of the public consultation process will include a small exhibition of the scheme, with site and building models.
Lambeth are delighted to be able to work with the governors, staff families and children of the Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Woodmansterne School in Streatham Vale to create an all through school. We look forward to working very closely with all our stakeholders to create a high achieving and successful school.
Project stages
The first stage of the project is to undertake pre planning application consultation, of which this document forms part of.
The next stage would be to ensure the site is ready for work to begin in September 2016.
The new secondary school on the existing Woodmansterne School site is expected to be completed in March 2018 and admit its first intake in September 2017.
The table below shows the proposed changes for all the schools and the date by which these will be completed. This could be subject to amendment as the programme develops.
