FPŠ zagotavlja kreativno okolje, kjer se srečujejo študentje, raziskovalci in eksperti z raznih oddelkov in zunanjih institucij s skupnim ciljem ustvarjanja novega znanja in prenosom le-tega v podjetniško okolje. V lanskem letu smo izvajali sedem doktorskih programov tretje stopnje, ki so pripravljeni skladno z bolonjsko deklaracijo (Znanosti o okolju, Krasoslovje, Fizika, Primerjalni študij idej in kultur, Ekonomika in tehnike konservatorstva arhitekturne in krajinske dediščine, Molekularna genetika in biotehnologija, Jezikoslovje). Znanosti o okolju (tretja stopnja): Doktorski program Znanosti o okolju nadaljuje tradicijo našega najstarejšega podiplomskega programa Znanosti o okolju, s katerim smo začeli leta 1995. Program je izrazito interdisciplinaren in raziskovalno usmerjen. Študentom nudi možnost usmerjanja v problematiko treh ključnih segmentov okolja: voda, tla in zrak. Fizika (tretja stopnja): Doktorski študijski program tretje stopnje Fizika zaobjema študijske aktivnosti z vseh področij fizike, s posebnim poudarkom na fiziki visokih energij (astrofiziki osnovnih delcev in kozmologiji), fiziki materialov (raziskave elektronskih, strukturnih in kemijskih lastnostih materialov in karakterizacijskih metod na nivoju atomske in molekularne fizike) in fiziki fluidov (numerično modeliranje faznih prehodov v materialih in aerodinamskih površin). Program združuje raziskovalni in upravni vidik na področju znanosti o krasu. Namenjen je predvsem študentom naravoslovnih in drugih sorodnih področij (npr. geografija, geologija, hidrologija, biologija)

US-China Foreign Language, June 2018, Vol. 16, No. 6, 347-350 doi:10.17265/1539-8080/2018.06.008 D DAVID PUBLISHING Review for the 12th Slavic Linguistics Society Annual Meeting Ivan G. Iliev Plovdiv University, Plovdiv, Bulgaria This is a critical review for the 12th Slavic Linguistics Society Annual Meeting held between the 21st and 24th of September 2017 in Ljubljana (Slovenia). The reviewer prooves with examples that the conference was not organized professionaly and the proceedings from it (in fact, containing only the abstracts of the articles) were not properly reviewed and published. As week points of the book of abstracts, he shows lack of bibliography, unclear abstracts without examples, technical mistakes, etc. Keywords: Slavic Linguistics Society (SLS), 12th SLS Annual Meeting, Ljubljana Of late, the Slavic Linguistics Society (SLS) has turned into an organization whose main goal is to collect money in the form of annual fees from the latter’s members, without allowing many of them to participate in the conferences held each year. The criterion for selecting the members allowed is unclear and is definitely not based on their professional qualities. Proof of that is the carelessly compiled and badly printed collection, reviewed here, of the conference of the SLS held between the 21st and 24th of September 2017 in Ljubljana (Slovenia), containing a huge amount of weak abstracts with insipid and imprecise titles. From them, in most cases, it does not even become clear what the articles deal with. Let alone the presence of illustrative examples which as a rule are lacking, and even less any scholarly contribution in them.

The case of Slavic *gyzd- Abstract: The article discusses the origin and development of the Proto-Slavic word *gyzd-ъ/-a and its derivatives in the Slavic daughter languages with particular attention to the formal and semantic deve- lopments that help to explain why the word went from a negative meaning (‘mud, excrement’, ‘something disgusting’) in Northern Slavic (West and East) to a positive meaning (‘adornment, embellis- hment’, ‘showiness, suavity’) in South Slavic. (9–23) Introduction This paper focus on the semantic development of PSl. *gyzd‑ъ/‑a and its derivatives in South Slavic, where the word has shifted in meaning from negative to positive.1 Details are added to the reconstruction to provide a richer account of the semantic development. The etymo- logy of the word is still open to some interpretation for at least the following reasons: (1) The full development of the word in Slavic has not yet been adequately explained, (2) the semantics of the word in West vs. South Slavic are strikingly opposite, raising questions of how the semantic reevaluation occurred, and (3) in relation to the previous notion, the distribution of the word is indicative of lexical relationships of Slavic dialects dating to the time of the disintegration of Common Slavic and presumed migrations (ca.

IDENTITY, HOME, AND LOSS IN GORAN VOJNOVIĆ’S ČEFURJI RAUS! (SOUTHERN SCUM GO HOME!) by Špela Grašič M.A., The University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus 2014 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS in THE COLLEGE OF GRADUATE STUDIES (English) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Okanagan) August 2014 © Špela Grašič, 2014 Abstract “Identity, home, and loss in Goran Vojnović’s Čefurji raus!” examines how popular Slovene writer Goran Vojnović’s 2008 novel Čefurji Raus! (trans. 2012) reconceptualizes the self/other divide between the relatively homogeneous Slovene majority and diasporic Fužine community, which lives in Slovenia’s capital city Ljubljana and is comprised largely of immigrants from the former republics of the ex-Yugoslavia. More specifically, this work explores how the two communities exist in a continuum of apparatuses, for example discursive, institutional, and state apparatuses, that are themselves encompassed by an overarching trauma apparatus. Here, the paper discusses etymological and discursive references to past traumatic historical events as well as the narrator-protagonist’s Marko Đorđić direct references to the more recent Yugoslav Wars. The paper then goes on to adress common Slovene responses to the novel. The paper concludes by suggesting that the novel is successful in helping individuals and communities work through stereotypes and xenophobia linked to trauma because, as a non-didactic or confrontational tool, the novel can serve to gently invite the reader into an experience of discomfort and uncertainty he or she may be unwilling or unable to engage with directly. In this way, the paper argues, Vojnović’s novel plays or can be used to play a key role in helping the Slovene communities work through, or perhaps more accurately, acknowledge and “sit with” their feelings of pain, discomfort, mistrust, and hate.
