Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2018 NRHA Derby and European Affiliate Championship! The National Reining Horse Association, on behalf of its members worldwide, would like to thank NRHA European Council President and IRHA President Roberto Cuoghi for taking on this incredible challenge along with fellow- affiliate, NRHA Germany.

Yet another important chapter of our sport is being written as the international collaboration between NRHA and its two major international affiliates join forces to produce the biggest stand-alone reining event ever held in Europe. The numbers are amazing: This is the biggest event held outside the U.S. as far as entries and purse! It is an incredible result and reflects the spirit and the goals Mike Deer of our Association worldwide which is to increase entries and attract more fans. NRHA President The NRHA Nomination Program has once again produced the numbers we have hoped for since its inception and all our sponsors have helped make this event bigger and better. I ask you to please take your time to thank them all, in particular NRHA Corporate Partners KL Performance Horses, owned by Sabine Lisec and Chuck Klipfel. In these past years, KL has been by our side supporting the two NRHA owned events in Europe; the European Futurity and European Derby.

A special thank you to all our international staff that has put in endless hours to make the NRHA European Derby and Affiliate Championship happen. Your dedication and passion never ceases to amaze me.

As we look forward to another great reining show on the Ostbayernhalle stage in Kreuth, don’t forget to encourage your friends and neighbors to buy a nice horse with slider plates, find a decent patch of dirt, a just say ‘whoa’!

Mike Deer

Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure and an honor to welcome you to Kreuth where the 2018 NRHA European Derby and European Affiliate Championship are held. What was a challenge in the beginning has become the biggest reining show ever held in Europe and I am proud to be part of this international team made up of the National Reining Horse Association, Italian Reining Horse Association and NRHA Germany. Close to 500 horses have made their way to Germany vying for the prestigious titles and for the high purses. The NRHA owned European Derby this year has registered the highest number of entries and will offer the highest purse ever offered. The very first NRHA European Affiliate Championship was held in Egna Ora, Italy, in 2002 and has become one of the most ambitious NRHA projects in Europe. For the first time, it will be offered here in Germany and the numbers prove that it is already a success. I would once again like to thank NRHA for entrusting me and IRHA with this first-time project as well as our fellow affiliate NRHA Germany for partnering with us. Our goal is to increase entries, attract fans and grow Roberto Cuoghi the number of members in all European NRHA affiliates; this show is a major leap in that direction. IRHA President A heartfelt thank you goes to my friends Sabine Lisec and Chuck Klipfel of KL Performance Horses for their continued support toward the European Derby and Futurity. Thank you to all our sponsors, our hardworking international staff and to Gut Matheshof for once again being host to one of Europe’s most prestigious events. I wish all the very best to our great horses and riders, may the best win!

Roberto Cuoghi

Cari Amici,

Roberto Cuoghi

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Kreuth where the 2018 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby and European Affiliate Championship, for the first time in the history of these events, are being held. In 2009, the very first NRHA European Futurity took place in this historical venue and was a success, becoming one of the most prestigious events in the Old Continent. The numbers of the 2018 European Derby have already proven this NRHA owned event is a success with a total of 250 horses entered in the Open and Non Pro divisions and with the highest purse ever offered. This is the result of the NRHA Nomination Program, which counted over 1,151 foals nominated in Europe in 2017, and of our great sponsors who continue to support this great event. The NRHA European Affiliate Championship has grown to become a solid event, offering a place in the limelight for all riders; from rookies and youth to the elite group of open horses and riders. Over 200 horse- rider-combinations will be making their way to Kreuth vying for the prestigious European titles. The success of the 2018 NRHA European Derby and European Affiliate Championship is without a doubt Gerd Wilhelm the international team behind the organization of the biggest stand-alone reining show ever held in Europe. NRHA Germany Second President NRHA, the Italian Reining Horse Association and NRHA Germany came together and the numbers are proof of the success of this collaboration. Naturally, success and big numbers always have advantages and drawbacks. The show will certainly be attractive for spectators thanks to our great horses and riders who provide entertainment and fun, the impressive purses and the opportunity to visit with fellow-reiners. On the other hand, this impressive number of horses also implies tight schedules and overloaded classes. The show management team did their very best to accommodate everybody and to make the show fun for all. Kreuth this year will be an unforgettable experience for us all, but the choice was either to overloaded schedules or refuse entries. We didn’t want do exclude anybody! In thanking all our sponsors, a special thank you goes to KL Performance Horses, owned by Sabine Lisec and Chuck Klipfel, who has been a major supporter in these past years of both the European Futurity and Derby. Without all the staff who has worked endless hours behind the scenes, none of this could be possible. The stars of the show are our horses, riders and breeders. Thank you for being here! To all, make sure you enjoy the ride!

Gerd Wilhelm

Liebe Reining-Freunde,

Gerd Wilhelm

NRHA European Youth Committee inaugural year-end awards

RHF supports reiners, families and youth worldwide. Your donations matter. The NRHA European Youth Committee has been working diligently since this time last year on establishing a new youth awards program. At the NRHA Convention & Awards, held on February 7-10 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the committee requested that the Reining Horse Foundation (RHF) match the funds collected by each European Affiliate for year-end awards. The following was approved by the RHF Board: The nonprofit RHF will match up to $3,600 USD annually towards the European Youth awards. This funding will be reviewed on an annual basis and extended to a maximum of three years. The NRHA European Youth Committee will in exchange recognize the RHF for their support of the program, as well as give them exposure at the NRHA European major events, thereby helping to facilitate increased awareness and more donations to the RHF, which supports reiners, families and youth worldwide. Francesca Sternberg, chair of the NRHA European Youth Committee, announced that funding has been secured with NRHA and the RHF to provide the following awards: Top Ten Jackets for European Youth competitors in the Youth 14-18 and Youth 13 & Under divisions. In addition, one high-point jacket will be awarded to each NRHA European Affiliate to be won by the High-Point Unrestricted Youth. This will give youth the opportunity to compete against each other in their own country. “Please encourage shows in your country to put on an NRHA Unrestricted Youth class run concurrent with any other NRHA Youth class,” said Sternberg.
