“Excellence Through Performance” “Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Families, We are fast into our 4th quarter and ready to take the AzMerit writing component this coming Monday and Tuesday. You will find detailed information attached (this is the same information that was emailed to all of our families last week and this afternoon). I highlighted this information with our students on Thursday as well as posting it on all students Canvas announcements. I ask that you partner with us and take some time to review and discuss the following with your son and or daughter this weekend: AzMerit will be administered for the first time online as opposed to paper and pencil. AzMerit Writing will take place on Monday and Tuesday-see attached for detailed information. Bring earbuds as there are listening components to the test. We will have earbuds if student does not have. Cell phones will be turned off due to not over maxing the WiFi. They will be placed in back packs and stored in front of the classroom. No cell phones will be allowed out until testing period is completely over. Get a good night sleep and eat a nutritional breakfast. Importance of AzMerit is as follows: o Assesses higher order thinking skills, some 21st century skills along with a variety of other skills that will allow DV to analyze the results and determine where we need to improve to assist our students with improving these skills that are needed to be globally competitive in the 21st century. o Comparison across the state helps DV determine where we are at compared to other comparable high schools and then determine what we need to do to assist in increasing student achievement. o Our students have worked so hard to put DV on the national map as an outstanding academic school of excellence and we want to carry on this tradition as it attracts like- minded families and students when searching for schools. Families look at state test scores along with other data to determine the school of their choice to send their son or daughter. Great scores will assist in continuing our tradition of academic excellence. o AzMerit also helps prepare students for the PSAT and the SAT as questions of similar skills are on these assessments. I thank you for your continued partnership in making Desert Vista a place where all our welcome and supported to reach their optimal potential. We have many spring events and I look forward to seeing many of you there. ATTENTION SENIORS: UPCOMING Graduation Information Baccalaureate (with cap and gown) 6:00-7:00 P.M. • Dear Desert Vista Family, Thank You
“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, Thank you for sending and preparing your student(s) for AzMerit and Science AIMS! It has helped tremendously with the logistics of testing all of our students. Prom is coming up on Saturday, April 28th from 7:30pm-10:30pm (as required by the location) at The Venue in Scottsdale. It is a wonderful time to come together to enjoy music and dancing. Hard work, planning and preparation by our student body council members and teacher sponsors go into planning this memorable occasion for our students. In keeping with the high school tradition of having fun and embracing our safety first for all students, both during school hours and all extra-curricular activities, I would like to partner with you for the safety and well-being of our students. While planning this exciting event with your child, I ask that you keep in mind that party buses are popular for some students to take to and from dances, but please know that not all companies have our students’ best interest at heart and/or do not know the school and parent expectations for such events. I would like to recommend that each parent check the reputation of the company and driver, and discuss expectations with the driver when your child gets on the bus. We will request that all buses drop students off at the entrance to the dance whereby an administrator and security guard will coordinate the exit of the students off of the bus. Once parked, the administrator and security guard will search the bus.

  • In Keeping That in Mind, We Ask That All Seniors Leave Their Back Packs at Home on Friday, May 18Th
“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, As we head into the home stretch, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every senior student and their parent and/or guardian. The senior leadership has been strong and effective, and has positively impacted all of us here at Desert Vista. This year’s senior class expressed themselves amazingly, and displayed appropriate spirit and behavior at our assemblies, all of our extra-curricular activities including all dances, while on campus during the school day and within their classrooms. They worked tirelessly on their academic learning and preparation for their future. They treated each other with kindness and respect, and were concerned for others. Thank you for leaving such a strong legacy of what a senior leader should be on the Desert Vista High School campus! I wish you all the very best that life has to offer and please know that you all will be missed! Keeping that in mind and continuing with these last few days of school, we have some wonderful activities planned for our seniors and our desire is for all to enjoy. If you are a parent of a senior, I ask that you partner with us to encourage a strong finish until the end; both academically and behaviorally. We have had thoughtful, positive and impactful leadership from our seniors and expect them to finish strong! We ask that you talk to your senior and encourage good choices that follow district and school policies, including ‘senior pranks’ that are not tolerated by either our district office or school.

“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, As we wind down to the last few weeks of the first quarter, I would like to remind parents to check ParentVue to gauge where your child is in regards to his/her learning and encourage them to complete their work, prepare for assessments, communicate with teachers, attend before or after school tutoring supports by the teacher, and/or attend our Peer to Peer Tutoring Program (see times below). We continue to partner with our Site Council, Student Council and Guidance Department and one of our main goals is providing information to students and parents regarding the social and emotional well-being our students. During lunch on Friday, September 29th, there will be several organizations on campus providing education and information to students on a variety of social and emotional wellness topics. Our community partner, Teen Lifeline, is visiting schools across Arizona during the month of September to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Organizations on site may include, Teen Lifeline, GLSEN, 1 n 10 and Terros. Visiting with these organizations is completely voluntary. However, we would be pleased if you encouraged your child to stop by the lunchtime event and visit with the groups. The health and well-being of our students is our number one priority and we look forward to partnering with our families in the upcoming year as we strive to develop resilient, healthy, and happy young adults. We are well into the fall season of our extra-curricular activities and I look forward to sending out more information to highlight all of our programs.
