We normally share our performance on state assessment tests (AIMS) in relation to schools across the state each year during the fall. As many of you may recall, SB1191 was signed into law on Friday, February 20, 2015, which immediately ended the AIMS high school graduation requirements. Students needing to obtain a cardkey will do the following: Obtain an elevator permission form by seeing the school nurse prior to your school day begin- ning or by going to our desertvista.schoolfusion.us website, click on “STUDENTS” at the top of the page, then scroll down to “NURSE”. When you get to the nurse website, click on the ELEVATOR FORM, print it, complete the form with both parent & student signatures and bring it with you to the nurse. Submit your doctor/trainer order information, with an estimated time of need for the use of the elevator, to the nurse to support your need. Nurse will provide note to leave class few minutes early to get through halls, as well as col- lect elevator form. Elevator card will be obtained from the book store, as a $25 lien will be placed on the stu- dent’s account until the elevator card is returned. Because the elevator card is now electronic, it will be deactivated on the completion date listed on student’s form. Should a student foresee needing an extension of time for his/her elevator card, a student will provide that documentation to the school nurse prior to the deactivation date listed on his/her original paperwork. Thank you in advance for your cooperation & help keeping our students safe! If you have questions please contact Amanda Domino at [email protected] Desert Vista Storm Report Page 6 STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK -UP Our Security Staff has become concerned that procedures for picking up students are often being disre- garded in the student parking lot at the end of the day. Security is looking out for the safety of your children, and over the years has created a system for parents to pick up their student in an efficient manner. It is not the perfect solution; however, the SAFETY of the children comes first! Trying to circum- vent the system and avoiding Security directing traffic may result in an unfortunate accident. We want to be proactive in preventing any such mishaps. We ask for your patience and respect for our Security Staff as they are there for the safety of your children. Timing is everything, if you’re coming before or when the bell rings at the end of the school day, you can expect delays. If you arrive 10 - 15 minutes later your experience will be vastly different and move much quicker. From the time the bell rings at 3:12 PM until approximately 3:30 PM when the lot is almost empty is 16 minutes. Staggering your pickup time will reduce everyone’s stress and risk of mishaps. NO PICK UP IN BUS TURNAROUND. TEACHER APPRECIATION C OMMITTEE Approximately four times a year appreciated. Items that will be [email protected], or the teachers and staff are needed include snacks, drinks 480-706-7907 treated to desserts prior to their and door prizes; the Committee meetings.

  • Dear Desert Vista Family, Thank You
“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, Thank you for sending and preparing your student(s) for AzMerit and Science AIMS! It has helped tremendously with the logistics of testing all of our students. Prom is coming up on Saturday, April 28th from 7:30pm-10:30pm (as required by the location) at The Venue in Scottsdale. It is a wonderful time to come together to enjoy music and dancing. Hard work, planning and preparation by our student body council members and teacher sponsors go into planning this memorable occasion for our students. In keeping with the high school tradition of having fun and embracing our safety first for all students, both during school hours and all extra-curricular activities, I would like to partner with you for the safety and well-being of our students. While planning this exciting event with your child, I ask that you keep in mind that party buses are popular for some students to take to and from dances, but please know that not all companies have our students’ best interest at heart and/or do not know the school and parent expectations for such events. I would like to recommend that each parent check the reputation of the company and driver, and discuss expectations with the driver when your child gets on the bus. We will request that all buses drop students off at the entrance to the dance whereby an administrator and security guard will coordinate the exit of the students off of the bus. Once parked, the administrator and security guard will search the bus.

  • In Keeping That in Mind, We Ask That All Seniors Leave Their Back Packs at Home on Friday, May 18Th
“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, As we head into the home stretch, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every senior student and their parent and/or guardian. The senior leadership has been strong and effective, and has positively impacted all of us here at Desert Vista. This year’s senior class expressed themselves amazingly, and displayed appropriate spirit and behavior at our assemblies, all of our extra-curricular activities including all dances, while on campus during the school day and within their classrooms. They worked tirelessly on their academic learning and preparation for their future. They treated each other with kindness and respect, and were concerned for others. Thank you for leaving such a strong legacy of what a senior leader should be on the Desert Vista High School campus! I wish you all the very best that life has to offer and please know that you all will be missed! Keeping that in mind and continuing with these last few days of school, we have some wonderful activities planned for our seniors and our desire is for all to enjoy. If you are a parent of a senior, I ask that you partner with us to encourage a strong finish until the end; both academically and behaviorally. We have had thoughtful, positive and impactful leadership from our seniors and expect them to finish strong! We ask that you talk to your senior and encourage good choices that follow district and school policies, including ‘senior pranks’ that are not tolerated by either our district office or school.

“Excellence Through Performance” Dear Desert Vista Family, As we wind down to the last few weeks of the first quarter, I would like to remind parents to check ParentVue to gauge where your child is in regards to his/her learning and encourage them to complete their work, prepare for assessments, communicate with teachers, attend before or after school tutoring supports by the teacher, and/or attend our Peer to Peer Tutoring Program (see times below). We continue to partner with our Site Council, Student Council and Guidance Department and one of our main goals is providing information to students and parents regarding the social and emotional well-being our students. During lunch on Friday, September 29th, there will be several organizations on campus providing education and information to students on a variety of social and emotional wellness topics. Our community partner, Teen Lifeline, is visiting schools across Arizona during the month of September to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Organizations on site may include, Teen Lifeline, GLSEN, 1 n 10 and Terros. Visiting with these organizations is completely voluntary. However, we would be pleased if you encouraged your child to stop by the lunchtime event and visit with the groups. The health and well-being of our students is our number one priority and we look forward to partnering with our families in the upcoming year as we strive to develop resilient, healthy, and happy young adults. We are well into the fall season of our extra-curricular activities and I look forward to sending out more information to highlight all of our programs.
