Kyokushin Budo Kai the Ultimate Beginners Guide Revision 2.02 Kyokushin Budo Kai The Ultimate Beginners Guide Revision 2.02 www.kyokushinbudokai.org Kyokushin Budo Kai The Ultimate Beginners Guide Page 1 of 129 Introduction and Acknowledgements Welcome! Thank you for downloading 'Kyokushin Budo Kai: The Ultimate Beginners Guide' from www.kyokushinbudokai.org. This document and the site which provides it are the premier English language resources for all things Budokai. Both the site and this guide are freely available and of benefit to practitioners of Kyokushin Budo Kai, Kyokushin Karate (at times known as 'Kyokushinkai'), Judo, Jiu Jitsu (aka. Ju Jitsu), Free Fight and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) worldwide. As a student of Kyokushin Budo Kai, I have spent many hundreds of hours researching websites, in four different languages, in an effort to gain as much knowledge as possible concerning the International Kyokushin Budokai, Jon Bluming (founder and President) and background information concerning the martial arts that make up the Kyokushin Budo Kai system. I would like to thank all Budoka that have posted material online. Without their efforts - the construction of this single source of information would not have been possible. This document has been compiled following many, many, many months of internet research into the techniques and philosophies of the styles of Kyokushin Budo Kai, Kyokushin Karate, Jiu Jutsu, Judo and Sambo. I researched it's contents purely for the purpose of PERSONAL development and in order to improve my understanding as a practitioner of Kyokushin Karate, Judo and Jiu Jitsu under my Sensei, Charley Herwig (3. Dan), who's Dojo is associated with International Kyokushin Budo Kai. I have decided to make this research freely available in a single document in order to spare fellow practitioners - present and future - from having to do the same! Not everybody has the benefit of unlimited time and internet access! This document is FREE OF CHARGE and must ALWAYS remain so. If you have paid ANY FEE of ANY KIND then the 'seller' has likely infringed the copyright of the individuals that are responbile for the creation of the original texts from which much of this guide is compiled. I feel that the following should be made clear: Without the time, knowledge and effort of those involved in the production of the information available on assorted web-sites globaly (in various languages), it would not have been possible for me to collate this information into a single source. My personal development in Budo owes much to the information given freely by these Budoka. I offer my heartfelt gratitude for all that they give to the world of Budo. The material contained in this document is believed to be in the public domain (that is: any 'non-original' material has been compiled from internet sites where no copyright claim was made) and it is my belief that no copyright has been broken. Kyokushin Budo Kai: The Ultimate Beginners Guide consists of material from the following sources: - Self produced material. - Material which I have translated from other languages (in the main: German and Dutch). - Material which I have re-written to improve the readability of texts written by non-natives speakers of English. - Material directly copied from internet sources (which I believe to be WITHOUT copyright). - Material which has helped for the basis of my opinions regarding Budo that may have been partially changed to better reflect my own thoughts. Again: no copyright has been intentionally infringed and this document is offered NOT FOR PROFIT OR COMMERCIAL USE OF ANY KIND. I am simply sharing the results of my research. Whilst this guide was compiled to help out those new to Budo Kai, I am certain that it will be of equal benefit to beginners and Dan grades alike. Remember, this is just a guide to be used as reference material only. Without regular training in connection with a certified instructor – this information is fairly useless. I wish you every success in your Budo development. Osu! • Technische Eisen Dan-Examens Jiu-Jitsu 2

  • Grandmaster Kyu Ha Kim Stands Where He Has Stood for Over Fifty Years, in Front of a Group of Students Patiently Explaining the Subtleties of a Judo Technique
Grandmaster Kyu Ha Kim: Life & Legacy by Christopher Moore, 2014 (updated in 2021) “My Family grew rice on our farm in Korea. When the rice plants were young, they grew straight and tall. As they grew older and became heavy with rice, their heads bowed.” Grandmaster Kyu Ha Kim, 10th Degree Black Belt I was born in Korea in 1935. I grew up in a small town near Daejeon. My first exposure to Judo came from my older brother. He showed me some techniques in the backyard. When I entered high school, I started to seriously train myself. Judo became my life. Through Judo I was able to go to college at the Yudo College which was later renamed Yong-In University. After I won the National Championships for the second time, I became well known throughout Korea. I had the honor of teaching many members of the US military including some officers. I was invited to tour the United States teaching Judo. After visiting the United States, I decided I wanted to stay here. It was through Judo I was able to do this. I settled in Pittsburgh, PA and opened my dojo. Today I have two dojos and also teach an accredited course at the University of Pittsburgh. I have had the honor of teaching thousands of people including several national champions and the current president of the USJA. I even coached the US Team. Judo is quite literally my life. It brought me to this country. It is how I make a living. It is how I raised my family.

  • How to Enhance Effectiveness of Direct Attack Judo Throws
Attilio Sacripanti How to enhance effectiveness of Direct Attack Judo throws “Dr. Kano’s dream : Judo rotational application” Abstract In this paper it is performed an appraisal of the Olympic Sport “Judo” effectiveness in the optics of Biomechanics, that is the Dr Kano’s dream the rotational application of judo. Kano wasn’t able to develop his dream due to his premature death, but the biomechanical analysis is able to broaden the narrow translational vision of judo that is transmitted us by Kano’s disciples. Really speaking some learned followers of Dr. Kano like Kiuzo Mifune in Japan and Koizumi in England already had some rotational ideas, but few people appreciated their words. To broaden the classical view biomechanics will use a very special field f experimentation. This field of experimentation is obviously the high level competition in which most of these rotational application can be found applied more or less instinctively by high level Athletes. Considering the two biomechanical tools that are the physical basis of judo throws it is possible to obtain such results from the analysis of high competition application: Lever Techniques are enhanced in their effectiveness in three ways : 1. The rotational movements, strictly connected to the Lever techniques mechanics achieving victory (Ippon) in competition, can be extended to the unbalance phase (Kuzushi) 2. The rotational movements can be applied in a totally new way putting away even the unbalance that is basic in the Lever techniques. 3. The Lever tool can be hybridized with the application of a Couple to lower the energy consumption and to overcome some strong defensive resistance.
