Disability Network instructors and aides teach classes twice a month in an Art School studio and logged 308 encounters this year. The Glassblowing Hot Shop ran 68 courses and workshops serving 238 students as well as 12 studio soirees serving 131 people. Visiting Glass Artist Jeff Mack completed a studio residency at the Art School during the week of December 2–9, 2018. Mr. Mack used the residency to create a new body of work as part of his individual artistic practice. His residency in our hot shop was open to the public, allowing museum and school visitors the chance to see a prominent glass artist at work and to ask questions and learn about the techniques and aesthetics of his work. Mr. Mack gave a public slide lecture on his work and the historic glass techniques that he utilizes. Twenty people attended the lecture. He also gave formal narrated demonstrations in the hot shop on Saturday, December 8, which were attended by 129 people. He utilized FIA faculty, students, and apprentices in the work, which expanded the educational opportunities for our students. The Hot Shop provided formal glass blowing demonstrations throughout museum hours every Saturday. During fiscal year 2018–19, 5,456 people attended these free demonstrations. Objects made during the demonstrations were offered for sale in the Art School gallery.
