Presence of wild host plants of stem borers in cereal-growing areas has been considered as reservoirs of lepidopteran stem borers, responsible for attack of crops during the growing season. Surveys to catalogue hosts and borers as well as to assess the abundance of the hosts were carried out during the cropping and non-cropping seasons in different agro-ecological zones along varying altitude gradient in Kenya. A total of 61 stem borer species belonging to families Noctuidae (25), Crambidae (14), Pyralidae (9), Tortricidae (11) and Cossidae (2) were recovered from 42 wild plant species. Two noctuids, Busseola fusca (Fuller), Sesamia calamistis Hampson, and two crambids, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe) and Chilo orichalcociliellus (Strand) were the four main borer species found associated with maize plants. In the wild, B. fusca was recovered from a limited number of host plant species and among them were Sorghum arundinaceum (Desvaux) Stapf, Setaria megaphylla (Steudel) 1. -

P. marginatus Summary native to Mexico and Central America is a devastating pest of papaya production in the areas of invasion in Asia, Africa and North America. In Mozambique, the papaya mealybug was detected for the first time in 2013 in Pemba, Cabo Delgado province. Classical biological control has been viewed as a potential friendly management strategy for P. marginatus, in the country due to its status as an introduced species and it is suitable for the classical biological control approach of releasing species-specific parasitoids such as Acerophagus cf. nubilipennis, Acerophagus papayae. The present project proposal will evaluate P. marginatus distribution and pest status; levels of infestation and damage due to this pest; conduct assessment of establishment and preliminary of classical biological control using the exotic parasitoids. Two MSc. students will be involved in conducting research work. Each student will conduct field and laboratory studies. GADALLAH & Hassan GHAHARI Abstract The present work comprises a comprehensive faunistic catalogue of the Braconinae collected and recorded from the different localities of Iran over the past fifty years. It includes 115 species and subspecies in 11 genera (Atanycolus FÖRSTER, Baryproctus ASHMEAD, Bracon FABRICIUS, Coeloides WESMAEL, Glyptomorpha HOLMGREN, Habrobracon ASHMEAD, Iphiaulax FOERSTER, Megalommum SZÉPLIGETI, Pseudovipio SZÉPLIGETI, Rhadinobracon SZÉPLIGETI and Vipio LATREILLE) and four tribes (Aphrastobraconini, Braconini, Coeloidini, Glyptomorphini). Introduction Braconinae is a large subfamily of cyclostomes group of parasitic wasps in the family Braconidae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea). They constitute more than 2900 described species that are mostly tropical and subtropical (YU et al. 2012). Members of this subfamily are often black, red, orange and/or white in colours. They are small to medium-sized insects, characterized by their concave labrum, absence of epicnemial carina, absence of occipital carina, females have extended ovipositor (SHARKEY 1993). -

Several wild plants, grasses mostly, have been identified that serve as hosts for stemborers and their parasitoids during the off-season when maize is not present in the field. However, their abundance is much lower in wild plants compared to cultivated fields. Thus, the role of wild plants as a reservoir for cereal stemborers and their parasitoids is still controversial, particularly in agro-ecosystems with reduced wild habitat. -
