Las islas Filipinas y muy especialmente su capital, Manila, fueron el más importante nexo de unión comercial del mundo hispá- nico con China y otros países de Asia y de la cuenca del Pacífico. El comercio del Galeón de Manila suministró a los mercados asiáticos la ansiada plata, permitió el establecimiento y la longeva presencia hispánica en Filipinas y dotó del necesario numerario al archipiélago y a otros territorios españoles del área. The study, exploration, use and maintenance of building stones is a global phenomenon that has evolved from the first shelters, manufacture of lithic tools, to the construction of houses, infrastructures and monuments. Druids, philosophers, clergymen, quarrymen, master builders, naturalists, travelers, architects, archaeologists, physicists, chemists, curators, restorers, museologists, engineers and geologists, among other professionals, have worked with stones and they have produced the current knowledge in heritage stones. They are stones that have special significance in human culture. In this way, the connotation of heritage in stones has been acquired over the time. That is, the stones at the time of their historical use were simply stones used for a certain purpose. Therefore, the concept of heritage stone is broad, with cultural, historic, artistic, architectural, and scientific implications. A historical synthesis is presented of the main events that marked the use of stones from prehistory, through ancient history, medieval times, and to the modern period. S. Dollar Sign.‖ But I decided to keep it simple. So how does Spain’s early history play a part in this convoluted story and how did the meeting of two Irish expatriates in Havana, Cuba, bring about the financing of the American Revolutionary War and the creation of the U.S. dollar sign – and how is New Orleans connected with all this? The explanation begins with the mythical story of Hercules (famous for his strength), whose twelve labors took him to the far reaches of the Greco-Roman world. The Pillars of Hercules in Ceuta, Spain One of Hercules’ tasks was to round up the cattle of the fearsome giant Geryon, who lived on the island of Erytheia in the far west of the Mediterranean. Only trouble was that a colossal mountain stood in his way, so strongman Hercules split it in half, thereby connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and forming the Strait of Gibraltar. This is all mythologically speaking, of course. The promontories that flank the Strait’s entrance (most notably the Rock of Gibraltar) are thus known as the Pillars of Hercules, although other features were associated with the name.

La moneda circulante en el Archipiélago Canario durante el siglo XVIII LA MONEDA CIRCULANTE EN EL ARCHIPIÉLAGO CANARIO DURANTE EL SIGLO XVIII Pedro Damián CANO BORREGO* Fecha de recepción: 18/03/2016 Fecha de aceptación: 02/04/2016 Resumen A lo largo del siglo XVIII se produjeron en las Islas Canarias graves problemas monetarios derivados de la moneda en circulación en el archipiélago, derivados tanto de las falsificaciones como del mantenimiento en la circulación de monedas batidas en los siglos anteriores. Asimismo, la falta de numerario menudo favoreció la entrada de moneda de vellón provincial procedente de Santo Domingo y Puerto Rico. Tras varios intentos para la estabilización del numerario y el recurso al resello, finalmente, en una operación en sus primeras fases secreta, se sustituyó el circulante por moneda de nuevo cuño y se expidió la antigua moneda en circulación a Sevilla para ser reacuñada.
