The Quellness & Golf Resort

Relaxation, golfing paradise and Bavarian hospitality at the Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach

The Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach is tucked into the gently rolling hills of the Lower Bavarian countryside to the south of , the City of Three Rivers, in the idyllic Rottal district. It comprises three hotels with luxurious offers for wellness, beauty and thermal health as well as three estates, making it Europe’s number 1 golf resort. Nature, culture and a particular way of life come together to create a splendid combination which gives guests a deep sense of well-being. The region is distinguished by undulating hills and valleys covered in lush green woodlands, sprawling fields and colourful meadows. An array of biking and hiking routes intertwine the enchanting natural landscape.

In the indoor and outdoor pools of the wellness, beauty and thermal landscapes offered by the three first-class hotels, sparkling water works its well-being wonders and invites not only wellness enthusiasts, health-conscious guests and conference visitors to relax, but also cyclists, Nordic walkers and golfers as well. The varied types of terrain surrounding Bad Griesbach also inspired world-class golfer Bernhard Langer while designing three of the five 18-hole championship courses. A total of 129 fairways on ten golf courses have been blended into the countryside, and the offer is completed by expansive practice facilities, the Golfodrom® Training Centre, the Golf Academy and several pro shops.

Resort History

The success story of the Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach began in 1972 when the Hartl Family discovered thermal mineral water while drilling. The Griesbach Well and Fountain Society with Alois Hartl tapped into the Marienquelle, Karlsquelle and Nikolausquelle (Quelle is German for spring) in 1972 and 1973. The springs were found at depths of 497, 878 and 1,522 metres at temperatures of 30, 38 and 60°C.

After Bad Griesbach received state recognition as spa facilities with medicinal springs in 1979, the first hotel in the area opened in 1981, which is now known as THE LUDWIG. The resort grew in the 1980s with the FÜRSTENHOF Hotel opening its doors and the construction of the first golf course as the foundation for today’s golf resort. The opening of the golf resort was celebrated in 1989. Another milestone was the broadcasting of the first KaiserCup in 1988.

The range of hotels offered at the Quellness Golf Resort was complemented by the addition of the first-class hotel the MAXIMILIAN in 1991. In 1995, 2002 and 2003, three further 18-hole golf courses opened. All three courses were designed by ’s world-class golfer Bernhard Langer. The golf resort was the venue for a Guinness World Record in 2009: the largest golf tournament in the world was carried out with 712 participants on five courses. During the first professional tournament in 2013, the golf resort was able to fully demonstrate its champion-worthy qualities.

In 2005, Dr Hans-Dieter Cleven became the majority shareholder of the Quellness Golf Resort, which was still operating under the name Hartl Resort at that time. Under his direction, many upgrades and enhancements to the resort were carried out. One example is the complete renovation of the hotel THE LUDWIG, which also took on the new concept as a family hotel. The transition from the family brand name Hartl Resort to Quellness Golf Resort Bad Griesbach was completed in 2015.

Bad Griesbach Thermal Mineral Water

Bad Griesbach Thermal Mineral Water is more than 10,000 years old and bubbles up from depths of 497, 878 and 1,522 metres at temperatures of 30, 38 or 60°C. According to medicinal water analysis,

the water comes from “sodium-hydrogen-carbonate-chloride springs containing fluoride”. The legendary healing properties of Bad Griesbach Thermal Water have been displayed when taken by individuals suffering from chronic pain, stress or burnout symptoms.

Family-friendly leisure activities and spacious rooms and suites make the four-star superior hotel THE LUDWIG the ideal holiday residence for parents and children. The motto “Fit.Energised.Active” promises families and athletic guests a diverse range of sports activities from meditative Tai Chi to intense workouts in the modern fitness centre or even exciting matches on the hotel football field or beach volleyball court.

The offer includes activities such as beach volleyball, archery, golf lessons on the 6-hole Chervò Junior Golf Course plus nature, riding and football camps for budding football stars.

This gives parents plenty of time to pursue their own athletic ambitions or to relax in the hotel’s Thermal & Beauty area which covers 1,800 m2. Four indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, relaxation rooms and a large sun terrace provide refreshing and relaxing opportunities. In autumn 2017, the sauna facilities were renovated to include a new Finnish sauna, steam room and rain showers. The wellness and beauty treatments offered at THE LUDWIG Spa also include treatments which are specifically for children.

The winter break after Christmas festivities for 2017/2018 was used to complete comprehensive renovation work. The kitchen was completely renewed, allowing the kitchen team to indulge guests with delicious buffets for gourmands and new themes each day which promise to deliver culinary diversity. A highlight for those who like to peek inside the kitchen is our show cooking. In the Austrian wine tavern “Zum Heurigen”, guests enjoy heartfelt hospitality and the finest of both regional and Austrian cuisine.

Rural tranquillity meets modern comfort – the Brunnwies, Penning and Uttlau Estates

The three estates are tucked into the countryside, making them the ideal holiday accommodation for both golfers and guests who love to enjoy the outdoors. They welcome guests with traditional Bavarian hospitality in a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. Every room is distinguished by stylish cosiness, and the kitchen teams indulge guests with freshly prepared regional specialities. The estates offer saunas and/or sanariums, and Penning Estate also provides a heated outdoor pool. It is possible to book a massage in your room upon request.

The estates themselves are as varied as the scenery and golf courses in which they are situated. There is an estate to satisfy every type of preference; from rustic Bavarian (Uttlau, Brunnwies) to modern garden palace design (Penning).

Brunnwies Estate which, like every estate, is located right by the golf course by the same name, delights with its idyllic location and gorgeous view of the surrounding nature. The generous Junior and Senior Suites with lush green views also offer enough space for families. Guests can enjoy their evenings in the friendly atmosphere provided by the cosy restaurant and spacious terrace. An ideal feature for families is the proximity of the resort’s 6-hole junior golf course to Brunnwies Estate.

Penning Estate, the youngest of the four estates, is a must for golf enthusiasts due to its proximity to both Bernhard Langer courses, the Beckenbauer Golf Course and the Porsche Golf Course. It is also the ideal starting point for bicycle tours, hikes and field trips out into the surrounding area. Guests are able to choose between the 46 modern suites with a view of the golf courses or the four holiday cottages right beside the estate, which offer a total living area of 95 m2 plus a private terrace with access to the heated outdoor pool. Of course with such an inviting holiday atmosphere, culinary delights should also not be neglected - regardless of whether that means Bavarian, barbecued, exclusive or freshly baked cakes each day. The whole array is served at the restaurant with a sun terrace or in the expansive Chestnut Beer Garden.

At Uttlau Estate, a lovingly restored, four-sided Rottal courtyard building with more than 400 years of history to offer, modern comfort is provided in historical surroundings. Its dignified walls contain 35 comfortable rooms, and guests often prefer to linger just a little bit longer in the cosy, rustic dining rooms or in the picturesque courtyard to celebrate over classic Bavarian specialities or discuss the adventures the day had to offer.

Every estate offers its guests complimentary parking spaces right on its premises. A particular highlight for every golfing guest at the estates is the included use of the driving range and practice facilities at the estate in the room price.

Limitless golfing enjoyment at Europe’s number 1 golf resort

Five 18-hole championship courses, three 9-hole courses and two 6-hole practice courses offer a total of 129 holes on 10 golf courses – guaranteeing golfers of any skill level, from beginner to pro, a diverse and varied range to choose from. It is not without reason that the Golf Resort Bad Griesbach has received multiple awards from golfers and specialist journalists and also served as the venue for the European Tour from 2013 to 2017.

Special classes are also offered for ladies and the young at heart, some are offered by Bernhard Langer’s coach Willie Hofmann, and a broad selection is available for kids and teens.

The Golfodrom® is also home to a high-tech analysis centre with SCOPE swing analysis, SAM PuttLab putter and club fitting and Germany’s largest on-course pro shop with its own club workshop and an enormous selection of clubs for both right-handed and left-handed golfers - testing them out is a matter of course - along with shoes, trolleys, bags and all sorts of possible accessories. Perfect service and custom-tailored holiday packages for golfing guests complete the golf offer.

The resort’s multifaceted tournament calendar includes more than 160 tournaments and events every year. The list includes renowned highlights such as the Golf Opening with the Eagles Charity Golf Club e. V. to ring in the new season and both "Ryder Cups" against (in June) and Switzerland (in September). It continues with the KaiserCup, the charity classic in July which benefits the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation, as well as Europe’s largest amateur tournament “144 - A Question of Honour” in August. The Bundesliga Cup is also featured, which includes numerous former football stars, to conclude the season. A large number of 9-hole tournaments are also included, which are ideal for tournament newcomers and working golfers, as well as a handicap-qualifying guest tournament every week and of course tournaments for kids and teens. The Pro-Am tournaments which are offered provide the rare opportunity to participate in a tournament alongside a golf professional and two other amateurs.

An absolute highlight on the resort’s tournament calendar is provided by the Golf Resort Tournament Weeks, which are exclusively for guests at the Quellness Golf Resort’s hotels and estates. The package includes five nights with a hearty breakfast at the hotel or estate as well as five days of golf and a daily celebration with an awards ceremony. Guests are able to explore a new golf course each day and discover a different resort restaurant each evening while also improving their handicap. After a test round on the day of arrival, participants play for four days in four handicap-qualifying tournaments on four different 18-hole courses at the resort. Tournament gifts and halfway refreshments are included each day as are daily awards ceremonies and attractive tournament prizes.
