A high-scoring affair between two of the top-scoring offenses in the conference did not start off that way as both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the early going, leading to a 31-30 halftime time lead for Southwestern after each team shot under 40 percent in the first 20 minutes. The Builders entered this game playing their fifth contest in nine days and were already short-handed, while the Braves saw their leading scorer Jaquan Daniels exit with an injury just six minutes in. He did not return. Despite being undermanned on both ends, the two offenses picked up in the second half, starting off with Ottawa as they quickly jumped out to a lead in the early minutes before stretching their advantage to as many as nine in the first ten minutes of action. The Braves continued to convert on their end, countering an efficient shooting half from the Builders with one of their own, all while getting to the free-throw line often. The deficit for Southwestern grew to 14 points with just under four minutes to play, faced with a double-digit deficit up until the 40-second mark. From there, the Braves converted nearly all of their attempts at the free-throw line to fend off a valiant comeback effort, one that the Moundbuilders trimmed to five points with the ball with ten seconds left. A missed three-point attempt finally shut the door as Ottawa escaped with the five-point victory. Zhahidi Robinson (SO/St. Petersburg, Fla.) notched his second straight 30-point outing on Wednesday, scoring 27 of his 36 points in just the second half. He also added eight assists and four rebounds. As a team, the Builders improved their overall shooting by five percent in the second half but endured a 58 percent mark over the final 20 minutes from the Braves as well as a 21-23 mark from the charity stripe. Cooper Pierce (JR/Arkansas City, Kan.) posted a career-high 18 points off the bench, while Troy Baker (SR/Maize, Kan.) added 13 points and nine rebounds. With the loss, Southwestern sees their four-game win streak come to a halt as they drop to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in KCAC play.
