Vallejo (16.0) Previously on Moundbuilder Soccer WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKS UP THIRD STRAIGHT WIN LINDSBORG, KAN The Southwestern College women’s soccer team earned their third consecutive win on Friday, defeating the Bethany Swedes on the road by a score of 2-1. After 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Lady Builders found themselves on the scoreboard fi rst in the 23rd minute on a Hailey Rouse (SO/New Caney, Texas) goal off of the pass from Lauren Fleischer (SO/Berryton, Kan.). Southwestern led Bethany 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. The Lady Builders outshot the Swedes 8-6 in the fi rst half and withstood three shots on goal from the home team. Nearly 30 minutes passed in the second half without a score as the Lady Builders held on to their 1-0 advantage. The Swedes managed to tie things up heading into the 73rd minute, but less than ten minutes later Rouse broke the tie once again on an unassisted score to give Southwestern the lead back in their favor. The Lady Builders continued to see off ensive pressure from the Swedes throughout the entire game, but the defense stood strong, led by goalkeeper Ashley Soderlund (SO/Benton, Kan.) who grabbed six saves on the afternoon. Southwestern closed out the fi nal 10 minutes following the Rouse goal countering every Bethany attack and held on for the one-goal win. On top of Rouse’s two goals, she also led the team in shots with seven and saw six of those on target. She now ranks in the top 30 nationally in total shot attempts. Morgan Mitchell (JR/Mulvane, Kan.) was the other member of the team to tally more than one shot. With the win, Southwestern improves to 5-3 on the season and snaps an eight-gaming losing streak to the Swedes. The team will be back in action on Saturday, November 7th at home when they host the Bethel Threshers. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 pm from inside Jantz Stadium..

Campus was busy this summer. About 300 Sisters of Charity and Dale L. Culver Associates graced our campus over the Fourth of July weekend and the Doctorate in Vice President for Finance and Physical Therapy and Accelerated BSN are here all summer as well as their programs Administrative Services Wendi Santee, Ed.D. run 12 months a year. The Doctorate in Physical Therapy program had over 300 Vice President for Student Life qualified applications for 40 spots. The program is clearly meeting a critical need for our society. Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth The calendar tells us that this year is special—our 90th anniversary as a college. Corporation Members Though we’ve been educating on this site since 1870, the institution you came to Sr. Maureen Hall, SCL, C’70 love as Saint Mary dates back to 1923. College classes began in the Walnut Room in Community Director Mead Hall. The current Spirit Shop was the “recreation room.” Red brick covered Sr. Nancy Bauman, SCL, C’70 all the college roads and cows grazed on the front campus by the ponds.     THIS PAST WEEK & MORE Real Men Sing Draws Over 800 Young Men to Bethany College Campus For Vocal Clinics and Concert The Real Men Sing vocal workshop at Bethany College expects to draw nearly 809 male students from 53 Kansas schools, on Thursday, January 30. In its seventh year, the Real Men Sing workshop offers vocal clinics for young men in the fifth to twelfth grades and features guest conductors from collegiate and high school music programs. Bethany Music professor and co-chair of the department, Dr. Mark Lucas organizes the annual event. Clinicians include Mr. Greg Bontrager and Mr. Nicholas Griggs who will direct the Changed and Changing Voices Choirs. Mr. Matt Webber will direct the Unchanged Voice Choir) and Dr. Mark Lucas will direct the High School Choir. Students are expected to attend from Salina, Lindsborg, Hutchinson, Great Bend, Ness City, Eskridge, Chanute, Marion, Derby, Inman, Wichita, Abilene, Rose Hill, Peabody, Satanta, Bennington, Maize, Fort Scott, Marysville, Ellsworth, Haysville, Goodland, Sharon Springs, Caney, Canton, Buhler, Riley, Hill City, Prairie Village, Andover, Hoisington, Hoyt, Liberal, St. George, and Westmoreland. As a group, the young men will sing "God Bless America” in Presser Hall Auditorium, on the Bethany campus, on January 30 at 2:30 pm.
