WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKS UP THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

LINDSBORG, KAN The Southwestern College women’s soccer team earned their third consecutive win on Friday, defeating the on the road by a score of 2-1.

After 20 minutes of scoreless play, the Lady Builders found themselves on the scoreboard fi rst in the 23rd minute on a Hailey Rouse (SO/New Caney, Texas) goal off of the pass from Lauren Fleischer (SO/Berryton, Kan.). Southwestern led Bethany 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. The Lady Builders outshot the Swedes 8-6 in the fi rst half and withstood three shots on goal from the home team.

Nearly 30 minutes passed in the second half without a score as the Lady Builders held on to their 1-0 advantage. The Swedes managed to tie things up heading into the 73rd minute, but less than ten minutes later Rouse broke the tie once again on an unassisted score to give Southwestern the lead back in their favor. The Lady Builders continued to see off ensive pressure from the Swedes throughout the entire game, but the defense stood strong, led by goalkeeper Ashley Soderlund (SO/Benton, Kan.) who grabbed six saves on the afternoon. Southwestern closed out the fi nal 10 minutes following the Rouse goal countering every Bethany attack and held on for the one-goal win.

On top of Rouse’s two goals, she also led the team in shots with seven and saw six of those on target. She now ranks in the top 30 nationally in total shot attempts. Morgan Mitchell (JR/Mulvane, Kan.) was the other member of the team to tally more than one shot.

With the win, Southwestern improves to 5-3 on the season and snaps an eight-gaming losing streak to the Swedes. The team will be back in action on Saturday, November 7th at home when they host the . Start time is scheduled for 4:30 pm from inside Jantz Stadium.
