I can't stress the length enough. While a is only 2 feet long, a rollerblader has a 4 foot stance . enjoyment out of the obstacle. BLADERS literally need something 2 times longer than a sk8 boarder to feel the same 49 stair set with handrail and ledge, pyramid, creative transition lines 50 Stairs, gaps, ledges 51 Unique street features that are also artisically pleasing, see Team Pain's website for skate plazas... 52 round rails, taller than 1.5', longer than 12'. 53 Circle Rails. 54 lots of concrete ledges and round handrails 55 Round practice rails parallel to the ground(roughly two feet off the ground), round handrails down banks & stairs of varying length and degrees (Edwards has a great example), Ledges down stairs & straight out over stairs, a 'Fun Box', a 'beginner' area with smaller features (ramp and street features), symmetrical design so features can be utilized by both 'regular' and 'goofy' or 'right foot' and 'left foot' skaters. 56 Round skinny rails: flat, flat down, down flat down 57 hubba ledges, drop rails, circle hand rails 58 Round rails, boxes, interesting and creatively designed new features. Is the existing skate park adequate or would you like to see the ‘Clover Bowl’ or any other feature change and absorb new features? 7/19/2013 1 Yes 2 Clover bowl is too big 3 It's adequate in the fashion that it suits transitional skateboarding very well. At the time when it was built, it was phenomenal. The Clover bowl should remain as is. 4 Defiantly leave in 5 Just Leave it 6 Yes yes yes 7 Yes 8DO NOT TOUCH CLOVER BOWL! IT IS THE BEST FOR TEACHING BEGINNERS 9 Nope 10 Yes 11 No 12 Yes 13 Existing park needs nothing changed except filling in the existing planter box with concrete 14 Yes 15 The mini needs some filling in ‐ the middle ledges with trees should be filled in with cement to flatten the top so we can ride on top. 16 No 17 No 18 Make bigger for Bikes 19 Yes 20 Yes, I think the existing skate park is adequate 7/17/2013 21 Under no circumstances should the clover bowl be removed. It provides variety and opportunity for the advancement of skills and spreads out park users 22 I skate the angel bowl all of the time 23 Yes it is adequate 24 Leave the bowl!! Us old timers skate the bowl all of the time. We are usually unseen because we skate after work and when the kids are gone. 25 Maybe 26 Yes, absorb new features 27 Keep it 28 Yes it is adequate 29 Keep the Clover Bowl! 30 I would like to see it disappear 31 It is important to keep some vert. Just add "street skate" features 32 Keep the Clover Bowl! 33 I think it should stay 34 The clover bowls should stay 35 The Clover Bowl is good! 36 I like that bowl, but there could be for sure be better features. I think that should stay, and the basketball court should go . 37 It is fine as is 38 Make disappear 39 Yes, more features 40 It is helpful for learning to roll down ramps (Shallow pockets), so keep it 41 Clover bowl is cool but could be used more 42 I would like to see this disappear and absorb new features 43 Yes 44 New features 45 New features 46 No, Keep the clover bowl 47 No Online 48 The clover bowl should be repurposed for the street features 49 The clover bowl is a very well designed/constructed pool, and is an integral part of our park. It's already there‐no sense in removing it, that would be a huge loss. Also, it's not just for expert skaters...I'm no expert, but skate it frequently because I enjoy that style of skating 50 Meh 51 Keep the Clover Bowl! 52 Keep the Clover Bowl! 53 I'd enjoy seeing larger bowls 54 gone to absorb new features 55 yes, math the clover bowl, the whole park is bowls; Quarter pipe 6'‐9' into rails and pyramids and or hips 56 no, I would miss it. 57 take out the clover bowl 58 More street, fewer bowls should always be a rule 59 Get rid of clover bowl 60 absorb new features. 61 Disappear for street features. 62 New beginner friendly learning features would be much more useful, for instance a 'step‐up' quarter‐pipe, that raises a foot ever two to three feet in length so people can progress. Woodward East's 'Playground' has a great example. 63 keep clover bowl. its awesome 64 The clover bowl should remain! It is used and provide another dimension (depth) to the park. 65 Disappear and absorb new features. No one uses it because it is wack 66 the clover bowl is outdated and could use a new fresh design 67 NO. The existing skate park is not adequate and never has been. NOBODY uses the 'Clover Bowl.' Absolutely nobody. It is a relic by design standards and a useless waste of space. Sooo much more could be done with the space that it currently occupies. 68 The clover bowl is the only advanced terrain at the park and is a sought after feature. It definitely should be kept Rio Grande Skate Park Survey Questionnaire Results 4. Is the ‘Clover Bowl’ used by many people? 7/19/2013 1 Yes 2No 3 Not used by everyone. I think it is a cool addition to the park 34 I'm not sure 35 Not used a lot 36 Used for skate camp regularly 37 I've seen small amount of people use it 38 Its used by skate camps and older dudes 39 Yes 40 Not that many people use it 41 Not that many 42 Some what used 43 Not many, but it's here, so keep it Online 44 Not enough 45 Not as many as the other two features, but it defiantly gets used (there have even been contests in there) It's the only park feature of our park that incorporates actual vertical walled skating 46 Meh 47 Yes 48 Yes, but we could make something "sicker" 49 No 50 Used only on busy days 51 Depends on the day 52 No, only the most beginner of skaters 53 fun for a few people, but true street spots are needed 54 No 55 No 56 No 57 Not to it's potential, it's mostly as a means to learn to drop in on higher ramps with friends/instructors/parents inside to 'catch' the user, and typically do not get out for overly extended periods of time. Making it incredibly inefficient for experienced users to wait for extended periods to use the bowl in it's entirety 58 yes. good kids use it. don't take it from the rippers. 59 Yes, it is great to learn to pump around in and it is also as challenging as one would like to make it 60 no, its wack 61 not too many 62 NO. NO. And NO. Nobody uses the Clover Bowl. Nobody. 63 Yes, beginners and advanced skaters alike Rio Grande Skate Park Survey Questionnaire Results 5. How do you value the existing Basketball court? Should we maintain a basketball hoop on site? 7/19/2013 1It is rarely used and wasted space 2I don't really play basketball so I don't care 3 I've used it, but not frequently. There is a court attached to the Yellow brick after all. Probably no need for it. 4 No, I think that it should be part of the skate park 5No 6 No! 7No 8No 9 Not necessary there are a number of other courts. Existing courts 3 blocks away at Yellow brick. 10 Not at all 11 Yes to leaving a hoop on site not the entire court 12 No, I do not value or use the basketball court 13 No 14 I teach skateboarding (since 2011) and we barely see people shooting hoops there 15 No 16 I rarely see people in there, and if I do its like 3 or 4 at most, space not being used to full potential 17 If it can be kept, keep it 18 Not at all 19 Don't Value it much, no 20 Not very much 21 I don't value the court at all, yellow brick basketball court is a better court anyways 7/17/2013 22 The court is not level nor are the posts / nets. There is a quality court blocks away at the Yellow brick. I think the space would be better used as a skate park area. 23 People only use the basketball court for 10‐15 minutes before they because the court is in bad shape. 24 Not at all valued 25 I don't play hoops, but could see it going to a half court. Doesn't seem to have a lot of people playing constantly. 26 No, there are other areas for basketball nearby. 27 "Screw it" 28 Not really 29 NO… go street 30 Yes, but take some baskets out and shrink in size 31 No, there are other courts around town 32 It is often used as a flat place to practice tricks. The "flat" part near the west corner has big cracks. The slope is nice though 33 No 34 I don't see enough people using it to justify its existence. There are other basketball courts around town. 35 No 36 No, plenty of other courts, plus the interaction would not blend well together. 37 No, there's a better basketball court 5 minutes walking from the park at the yellow brick that’s in way better shape and people barely use. 38 No Basketball all skateboarding 39 No, Skate park expansion absolutely 40 There are other basketball courts in town; doesn't get used a lot 41 Yes, but cut down the number of hoops to 4 or 6. 42 No, its lame 43 Yes 44 No 45 No 46 Don't really play basketball 47 No not really, but should have to plan for basketball players first. Online 48 Maintain the court, and the buffer if it provides to the John Denver Sanctuary. 49 One or two hoops would be good, but basketball options also exist in other parts of the city. 50 Sure 51 I like the hoops, but there should also be a flat pad for skaters 52 Get rid of it 53 Meh 54 No one plays basketball anymore… go to the rec. center 55 Ehh. 56 No 57 There are basketball hoops everywhere 58 Worthless, no. 59 People rarely play basketball on it 60 It should be used for the expansion skate park 61 The hoop would prove problematic as it's players would have different movement patterns than skaters 62 No hoops. More skate park. Nobody plays there anyway 63 Not if you are going to use it as a skate park. There would be a conflict of interest between users & it would just open the opportunity for issues! 64 No, add more skate features 65 There are plenty other basketball courts around the valley, use it for the skate park expansion. 66 No basketball hoop is needed on site. This is Aspen, home to action sports. We need a high quality skate park to match that reputation. There are plenty of basketball hoops located around town 67 it's not level, the cement is rough, the posts aren't straight and the hoops not level Rio Grande Skate Park Survey Questionnaire Results

It would seem more costly to remove it or features, also the bowl allows older skaters break away from the kids 26 Yes 27 Yes 28 Yes 29 Yes 30 Yes yes yes!!! 31 Yes 32 Yes! 33 Yes 34 Yes Please! 35 Yes 36 Yes 37 Yes 38 I would love one, I've been skating here my entire life and would love to a awesome street expansion. 39 Yes, very much so 40 Yes, more than most things. Thank you so much for considering this and getting opinions from us! 41 Yes 42 Yes 43 Yes 44 Yes 45 Yes 46 Yes 47 Yes!! 48 Yes 49 Yep, would benefit skaters Online 50 No, An expansion closer to the John Denver Sanctuary would severely impact the "sanctity" of the site. As of right now, the water features in front of Theatre Aspen provide enough of a buffer from the noisy skate park. Even now, skaters come down to the JDS to on the rocks. If the skate park is expanded closer, I fear that overflow will ruin what is currently a beautiful piece of the city. I've seen the John Denver Sanctuary and the Theatre Aspen site referred to as the "Eden of the Rockies". I would hate to have that serenity disrupted by more skaters. 51 Yes, It was voted on and approved at the same time that phase 1 was. I feel the construction is long overdue!! 52 Yes 53 Yes 54 Yes, make it bigger and better 55 Yes, 100% all skate parks should expanded, skating is more popular up here than basketball, baseball, and football combined. 56 Yes 57 Yes 58 Yes 59 Yes 60 Yes 61 Yes 62 Yes 63 Yes 64 Yes 65 Yes 66 Yes 67 Yes 68 Yes 69 Yes, Duh 70 Yes Rio Grande Skate Park Survey Questionnaire Results 8. Would you like to have the ordinance changed to allow bicyclists to use the skate park? Today bike use is not allowed at the Rio Grande Skate Park. YES / NO 7/19/2013 1 Yes, So Very Much 2 Yes, I personally hate the fact that bikes are allowed in snowmass, but not in Aspen. 3 Maybe, Absolutely No pegs. They are damaging to just about every surface. But maybe allow bikes. 4 No, No Bikes, Scooters, or Roller Blades 5 No, Bikers run into skaters 6 Yes 7No 8No 9I don't mind either way 10 Yes, I would love to ride my bike and you would have more people come!:) 11 Yes, BMXing is fun 12 No, the pegs damage the coping 13 Yes 14 Yes, any kind should be allowed by principal 15 Yes 16 Yes, Although bikes with pegs can destroy ledges, nowadays, bikers don't use pegs, and have as much right to use the park. NO Scooters though! 17 No 18 No, not at all they run into us 19 Yes 20 Yes 21 No, No Bikes

7/17/2013 Question not available during this Open House

Online 22 Yes 23 No, The park has held up extremely well. Bikes would jeopardize that. 24 No 25 No 26 No, they ruin the concrete, a separate bike only park should be built 27 No, bikers usually ruin ledges and coping, get in the way, and can literally kill people if they run in to them 28 Yes 29 Yes, Probably because it is too small… and bikes in bowls go really fast. If you distribute the skate park between a few long street lines and bowls everyone will share fine with bikes 30 Yes 31 No, maybe let them have one night a week 32 No, Maybe a bike specific day, but not everyday 33 No 34 Yes, Yes the ordinance is absurd 35 No 36 Yes, only with the stipulation that bikes not have pegs. The pegs would damage the 'pool' coping and any other potential features made of concrete not steel. 37 Yes 38 Pegs on the bikes destroy the metal and concrete coping for long term use by . Also, the flow of bikes is much different when put in the same environment, causing more potential collisions & conflict. 39 No 40 Yes 41 No, bikes damage the riding surface and the coping, metal and pool coping. Collisions with bikes are disastrous for skaters while relatively harmless for bikers 42 No, there is plenty of terrain for bikers to mess around on. The rule is enjoyed by everyone and should remain the same. NO BIKERS as they destroy terrain with pegs. Rio Grande Skate Park Survey Questionnaire Results 9. What are the existing issues with the existing skate Park, how would you improve it? 7/19/2013 1It is a little cramped 2 Better Rails 3 The lack of street obstacles. I drew a plan that is now in the hands of the Parks Department Staff. Thanks! 4 Turn part of the grass into the skate park 5No Razor Scooters 6No Nothing 7No 8 Gravel needs to be removed. More shade. Possibly put an awning over mini bowl. Relocate trees in planter by rail and fill in with cement to create a Manny Pad. 9 Not allowing bikes, you should allow bikes! 10 No bike, you need to allow bikes 11 I would expand it 12 The Rails 13 Just fill in the planter box ledge to create a "manual pad" 14 Rocks 15 The lack of "street" features is the only downfall and the middle ledges with trees should be filled in with cement. 16 No 17 Make it bigger 18 Rails are sticky 19 Trees and rocks in unneeded places, cause more harm than good. Take trees out of the planter!! 7/17/2013 20 It can be overcrowded at times, especially with summertime skate‐camps 21 Safety, crowding and trash 22 Need a street plaza then the park will have everything 23 Lack of Helmets on riders 24 Nothing 25 Fill in the planter! 26 Existing park doesn't have Street features, stairs, rails, and other obstacles 27 Existing park not big enough 28 Existing park doesn't have enough street 29 Sand and dirt are an enemy to skaters. Anyway to minimize dirt is good. 30 The Planter should be filled in the middle with cement so we won't be crashing into mulch and trees anymore!! 31 I think this park is amazing. It was constructed well, its maintained well and there are great rules (helmets) and community support. The helmet law should absolutely remain in effect for everyone. If the kids see the adults not wearing them, they won't wear them. And helmets reduce head injuries by 75% It could save one life. 32 Rocks, Rocks, Rocks 33 Remove: Trees in Planter, Rocks around perimeter of park, and remove the fence next to the ledge on the north entry point of the park. Helmet rule should be peoples choice 34 There are currently no Street skate features or extensions. 35 There are no street skating area in the existing park 36 No Bikes allowed even just after 6pm or so would be awesome and gratefully appreciated! Take out the planter, not needed. 37 Please allow bikes with no pegs 38 The "planter" with the trees is a hazard. (Many injuries from the inside corners) It would be best to remove the trees and fill with cement to become a long ledge / manual pad. The flat rail is good, but not that location (too close to the 9 foot wall, move it to open that area up) 39 Helmet law: Helmet law could have an age restriction (18+/21+) Many (most) public skate parks do not have helmet laws. (Example: Snowmass) 40 Fun Box with Rails and Ledges 41 I think it great for what it is, but if it was expanded it could be improved upon 42 Trees in the planter to be removed, rocks on the side and in the bowl to be removed, and the angle iron sucks 43 There are currently no street style features 44 Broken down concrete. Good features 45 Cracked Concrete 46 Its same stuff, we need new features 47 Currently not enough park for skaters Online 48 Repurpose the clover bowl for more street skating features 49 Needs better surfaces and obstacles with round things to grind. 50 Build a second mini pool. Create flat space and/or low angle ramps to practice and learn on. 51 Underutilized 52 Nothing major just more terrain would be great 53 Needs better surfaces and obstacles with round things to grind. 54 Needs more flat space plus rails. Would love another mini pool. 55 Too many scooter kids, no scooters allowed 56 Add features and prohibit scooters 57 Too many kids on scooters… 58 put all the kids on scooters on rollerblades 59 Needs more free standing boxes and rails, rails over stair sets, some kickers so air tricks are possible. 60 Needs more round hand rails, area to do street lines, rail, curb, hip, quarter, back to rail hip up quarter. 61 Create a street line zone around the perimeter, to distribute load, with pyramids to give each small section a starting space to get speed, and hit a rail and or hip consecutively 62 Not fun for all sports 63 More round stuff to grind 64 It is surrounded by rocks and wood chips which find there way into the park creating dangerous obstacles for skaters 65 Take out basketball court, create multiple snake lines down that hill from the mini bowl down that hill into the existing basketball court, remove clover bowl and replace with a bowl mimicking an actual pool. Use Arvada skate park as an example of a superb park. 66 The current park is too bowl focused, produces the wrong type of skaters 67 Remove it or add to it, with a more natural street course. Stairs and gaps, most skate parks near Aspen are too bowl oriented 68 The coping is too small and embedded in the concrete 69 Hire Team Pain to make it better 70 More round rails 71 It's fine, but more diverse elements would be nice 72 Lack of circle rails 73 Add circle rails 74 Raise most ramps from four feet to five and a half or six feet. Raise the coping along all decks. Change the flat square bar to a flat round bar. 75 Aside from the Clover Bowl, the park is all connected, meaning that an experienced user can make use of the entire park at one time with various lines, but often beginners tend to utilize a small portion of the park A) never allowing those experienced an opportunity B) not paying attention to the flow of other users resulting in potential injuries. The coping throughout most of the park is flush with the deck making grinding for any decent length almost impossible, unless you actually roll along the deck with two of the four wheels on a skateboard. The 'launch box' is incredibly difficult to get speed for. 76 Not enough medium to large features 77 Expand the park to the ball court and add street features and handrails. 78 Skate camps. They are there constantly during the summer and many potential visitors & users avoid it due to the lack of ability to enjoy the park. 79 Keep Skate camps/lessons to before noon or 1pm 80 Add a street section with rails and ledges 81 Needs more stuff outside bowl terrain. A street section is ideal. Look at what Carbondale did but make it better with more rails and ledges 82 Small, limited features, outdated clover bowl, lack of street features ‐ Add a street section with plenty of round hand rails 83 Crowds are an issue at certain times of the day. 84 Add more terrain to reflect features at newer more modern skate parks. 85 NO. There is plenty of terrain for bikers to mess around on. The rule is enjoyed by everyone and should remain the same. NO BIKERS as they destroy terrain with pegs. 86 I would scrap the basketball court. Get rid of the Clover Bowl. Build an interesting connector between the mini bowl and the basketball court that utilizes the natural slant/grade. Round down rails, multiple levels, the ability to connect lines and not have to skate one thing at a time. The existing park is boring and gets old quickly. New, creative, open, features that utilize the available terrain effectively.
