Veelgi problemaatilisem on rulapargi täielik puudumine. Märksõnad: rulatamine, õigus kasutada avalikku ruumi, mängulisus, sobimused, rulatamise kaasamine avaliku ruumi disainis, rulasõbralikud linnad 3 Estonian University of Life Sciences Abstract of Master’s Thesis Krewtzwaldi 1, 51014 Author: Luís Carlos Borges Rodrigues Curriculum: Landscape Architecture Title: Skateable spaces: found space and the purposely built skate space in Portugal - perception, trends, opportunities and mistakes Pages:183 Figures: 56 Tables:1 Appendixes: 6 Department: Landscape Architecture Field of Research: Supervisor: Simon Bell Place and date: Tartu, 2020 Skateboarding action requires a suitable space. Such space spans from everyday places to skateboard parks. Skatepark provision typically relies on local authorities, whereas the general streets are often skateable by pure chance and conversely, are at times, adverse to skateboarders whether equally by chance or by design (defensive architecture). Existing skateparks in a city do not always guarantee a skate-friendly environment, as they often have several limitations. The absence of a skatepark though is even more problematic. The research scope of this research was Portugal mainland as a whole. This research aimed to take a look at contemporary skate space in Portugal and analyse its evolution. The spatial research was piecemeal undertaken via satellite and overall internet research, including through social media platforms. To gain insight from those who experience the skateable space in Portugal, an in-depth questionnaire was laid out and a few informal interviews were conducted. Furthermore, observations were carried out through extensive social media ‘dive’. Through design and planning, we can aim for skate-friendly cities that are inclusive, not exclusive, of this particular user group. Thus, the design of skate space as an integral part of public space design is discussed, as well as including skateboarding in the cultural and sports programming of a city. Abstract The Odonata checklist of continental Portugal, Madeira and the Azores includes 65 species. Besides Sympetrum nigrifemur, an endemic of Madeira and the Canary Islands, and the unique population of the Nearctic Ischnura hastata in the Azores, the species composition reflects a higher proportion of western Mediterranean and Ethiopian elements than any other European country. An isolated occurrence of Coenagrion pulchellum was confirmed. Due to obvious misidentifications and to the loss of voucher specimens of questionable species, 22 taxa were rejected. Future records of additional species are predicted. Introduction Portugal is situated in the west of the Iberian Peninsula and thus at the western- most edge of Europe. Politically, the Atlantic archipelagos of Madeira, the Azores, and the Selvagens Islands also belong to Portugal. The archipelago of Madeira consists of Madeira, Porto Santo and the three Desertas Islands. Nine islands make up the Azores: Faial, Corvo, Flores, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa, Terceira, São Miguel and Santa Maria.

  • Planting Power ... Formation in Portugal.Pdf
Promotoren: Dr. F. von Benda-Beckmann Hoogleraar in het recht, meer in het bijzonder het agrarisch recht van de niet-westerse gebieden. Ir. A. van Maaren Emeritus hoogleraar in de boshuishoudkunde. Preface The history of Portugal is, like that of many other countries in Europe, one of deforestation and reafforestation. Until the eighteenth century, the reclamation of land for agriculture, the expansion of animal husbandry (often on communal grazing grounds or baldios), and the increased demand for wood and timber resulted in the gradual disappearance of forests and woodlands. This tendency was reversed only in the nineteenth century, when planting of trees became a scientifically guided and often government-sponsored activity. The reversal was due, on the one hand, to the increased economic value of timber (the market's "invisible hand" raised timber prices and made forest plantation economically attractive), and to the realization that deforestation had severe impacts on the environment. It was no accident that the idea of sustainability, so much in vogue today, was developed by early-nineteenth-century foresters. Such is the common perspective on forestry history in Europe and Portugal. Within this perspective, social phenomena are translated into abstract notions like agricultural expansion, the invisible hand of the market, and the public interest in sustainably-used natural environments. In such accounts, trees can become gifts from the gods to shelter, feed and warm the mortals (for an example, see: O Vilarealense, (Vila Real), 12 January 1961). However, a closer look makes it clear that such a detached account misses one key aspect: forests serve not only public, but also particular interests, and these particular interests correspond to specific social groups.

The landscape mingles with the vines and cereal crops – an ever-changing canvas of colour: intensely green towards the end of winter, the colour of straw at the end of spring, and deep ochre during the final months of summer. 1 All over the Alentejo there are archaeological markers suggesting that wine has Historybeen an important part of life up to the present day. Whilst it is not known exactly when wine and viticulture was introduced to the Alentejo, there is plenty of evidence that they were already part of the day-to-day life in the Alentejo by the time the Romans arrived in the south of Portugal. It is thought that the Tartessians, an ancient civilisation based in the south of the Iberian Peninsula and heirs of the Andalusian Megalithic culture, were the first to domesticate vineyards and introduce winemaking principles in the Alentejo.

  • Estimating Employer Labour-Market Power and Its Wage Effects
Making their own weather? Estimating employer labour-market power and its wage effects∗ Pedro S. Martinsy Queen Mary University of London & NovaSBE & IZA & GLO December 30, 2019 Abstract The subdued wage growth observed over the last years in many countries has spurred renewed interest in monopsony views of the labour market. This paper is one of the first to measure the extent and robustness of employer labour-market power and its wage implications exploiting comprehensive matched employer-employee data. We find average (employment-weighted) Herfindhal indices of 800 to 1,100; and that less than 9% of workers are exposed to concentration levels thought to raise market power concerns. However, these figures can increase significantly with different methodological choices. Finally, when controlling for both worker and firm heterogeneity and instrumenting for concentration, wages are found to be negatively affected by employer concentration, with elasticities of around -1.5%. • National Public Libraries Network
PUBLIC LIBRARIES NATIONAL NETWORK The emancipation of a foundation project Maria José Moura António Marta Braga Exactly 20 years ago I was asked to build a program for the promotion of public reading in Portugal, which would be supported by a partnership between central and local administration, aiming to create and develop public libraries with all the modern requirements, then pioneering, in our subject. The technical and financial support, conceived as program-contracts – which only after, were generalised for other purposes – was taken as a model for several more recent networks of cultural equipments, as it was considered a success case at a national and international level. Having been asked to tell you a bit of this story, I can’t however say it were all successes and that, if the majority of the strategic options were shown to be right, some happened that, being presented in valid time, were not considered to be a priority in political terms – giving privilege to quantity, which means, a faster coverage of all territory – and that to other propositions was not given implementation, not only because shortage of resources, but also given the overall difficulties, which resulted in lost opportunities. It is clear today, thinking in all this experience, that it’s easier to identify what would have been better to do, particularly if we ignore, with bigger or smaller good will, the temporal circumstances or the general context itself. Illustrating this fact, it is certain that, on one hand, we lack cooperation habits to optimise the investments made by each one of the partners, on the other, the costs of the technologies, widely spread in the last years, are not yet today accessible to many of them, being financially, being in it’s proper use since there is lack of human resources or they are insufficiently skilled.
