International Manifesto of the Youth against Populism, TITLE/ TITULO/ TITRE: Fundamentalism, Fascism, and the Far Right Akbayan Youth ORGANIZATION/ ORGANIZACIÓN/ ORGANISATION: Philippines COUNTRY/ PAÍS/ PAYS: LINE/ LÍNEA/ RESOLUTION/ RESOLUCIÓN/ RÉSOLUTION LIGNE: 1 The world is under siege. Populism, fundamentalism, fascism, and the far right are rapidly rising all 2 over the globe, hijacking public opinion with their politics of hate, violence, disempowerment, and 3 intolerance. 4 5 This global siege challenges the values for which civil society movements have fought, struggled, 6 and bled for decades and centuries. Today, the victories of the international movements for human 7 rights, peace, religious pluralism, and racial and gender equality are in danger. 8 9 The siege rises out of the failures of the liberal agenda, which have resulted in massive inequality 10 and the concentration of power and wealth in the very few. The reweighing of values that followed 11 these failures was not only predictable but inevitable. The world cried for change. Change never 12 came. What came was a swift and audacious attack – a promise to bring the existing order to its 13 only logical conclusion. 14 15 The promise is vivid.
