Prof. Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos President & C.E.O TRAINOSE is the only rail operator in Greece operating both freight and passenger transport services As part of the infrastructure company, TRAINOSE has a continuous history of 150 years of operation At its current structure – operator – it was established as subsidiary of the infrastructure company in 2005, and as an independent Rail Service Operator in 2007 In 2012, TRAINOSE presented earnings of 1.2 million € EBITA It moves approximately 4 million tons annually which is equivalent to 150 thousand trucks with minimal environmental impact It performs 330 line services with less than 900 employees using 150 passenger, freight & shunting locomotives, and 3000 freight wagons fulfilling UIC standards Locomotive Locomotive Containers 40 & 45 ft MLW Α-450 MLW Α-504, Α-506 on wagon type 362 Athens Suburban Rail Network Scheduled-line Intermodal Cargo Services . For which destinations? What is the expected Level of Service (lead time, cost, reliability)? Is the capacity there? What does this means to the Port: Is this existing volume or it will be new one? Northern Ports (Port of Hamburg, Antwerp, Rotterdam) receive more than 20 million TEUs Almost 1/3 of them goes out by rail and 1/3 by barges; the rest is transshipped or by truck Piraeus Port has of course particularities as it is a major transshipment port, serving other major Mediterranean and Black Sea Ports; therefore it is not expected to generate this share of traffic for land modes Based on estimates though almost 3 million TEUs are destined to Central Europe from the Northern Ports another one by other means (e.g. Port of Koper in Slovenia and Port of Costanza in the Black Sea) Given that PCT today handles little (through feeders to Koper and Costanza) to these markets, we had to target new business that uses the northern ports 12 Our Strategic Goal: To become the main rail service provider in South Eastern Europe by serving efficiently the global supply chains from Far East to the South East and Central Europe through Greece TRAINOSE strategic goal, which introduces innovative rail solutions & products across Balkans and South East Europe, needs focused research & innovation and market-driven solutions in areas including: Optimization of fleet & wagon maintenance planning & scheduling (condition-based monitoring) Traffic management strategies to improve capacity Energy management & supply Wagon designs and concepts (high capacity wagons, heavier/ longer trains), and infrastructure design to overcome the limitations IT solutions for freight system integration & interconnectivity, and for further reliability improvement (tracking & tracing, e-documentation, proof-of-delivery) Cross modal transport management systems for door-to-door transparent services optimization In this context, TRAINOSE development strategy meets the main SHIFT²RAIL initiative targets, namely: To position rail as a key stakeholder in the logistic chain providing global and local solutions To build close partnerships with other stakeholders of the logistic chain (terminals, operators, wagon keepers, infrastructure providers, logistic platforms, ports) To further improve the simplicity, transparency and quality of transportation products (seamless transports) To enhance capacity & user demand, to consolidate reliability & quality-of-services and to improve life cycle costs & competitiveness of the European rail system To put the customer first, and satisfy their transport needs (the key element to a successful and efficient European rail system) Thank you .
