  • Discography of the Mainstream Label
    Discography of the Mainstream Label Mainstream was founded in 1964 by Bob Shad, and in its early history reissued material from Commodore Records and Time Records in addition to some new jazz material. The label released Big Brother & the Holding Company's first material in 1967, as well as The Amboy Dukes' first albums, whose guitarist, Ted Nugent, would become a successful solo artist in the 1970s. Shad died in 1985, and his daughter, Tamara Shad, licensed its back catalogue for reissues. In 1991 it was resurrected in order to reissue much of its holdings on compact disc, and in 1993, it was purchased by Sony subsidiary Legacy Records. 56000/6000 Series 56000 mono, S 6000 stereo - The Commodore Recordings 1939, 1944 - Billy Holiday [1964] Strange Fruit/She’s Funny That Way/Fine and Mellow/Embraceable You/I’ll Get By//Lover Come Back to Me/I Cover the Waterfront/Yesterdays/I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues/I’ll Be Seeing You 56001 mono, S 6001 stereo - Begin the Beguine - Eddie Heywood [1964] Begin the Beguine/Downtown Cafe Boogie/I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me/Carry Me Back to Old Virginny/Uptown Cafe Boogie/Love Me Or Leave Me/Lover Man/Save Your Sorrow 56002 mono, S 6002 stereo - Influence of Five - Hawkins, Young & Others [1964] Smack/My Ideal/Indiana/These Foolish Things/Memories Of You/I Got Rhythm/Way Down Yonder In New Orleans/Stardust/Sittin' In/Just A Riff 56003 mono, S 6003 stereo - Dixieland-New Orleans - Teagarden, Davison & Others [1964] That’s A- Plenty/Panama/Ugly Chile/Riverboat Shuffle/Royal Garden Blues/Clarinet

  • Soraya's Legacy of Hope :: April :: 2009 :: AWAI
    American Writers & Artists Institute Soraya's Legacy of Hope By John Wood When American-Columbian singer/songwriter Soraya (pronounced so-RYE-yah) walked out on stage at the April 7th 2005 "Selena Vive" tribute concert to the late Tejano singer Selena to sing "Dreaming of You" with New York singing group The Barrio Boyzz, I had no idea she was wearing a wig. She sang beautiful. And she looked beautiful. On August 21st 1992, Soraya lost her mother to breast cancer. Years earlier, her mother's mother had also succumbed to breast cancer. In 2000, she was confronted with another family tragedy. Her favorite aunt, her mother's sister, was also dying from breast cancer. It was while visiting her aunt in Columbia that Soraya discovered a lump on her own breast (because of her family history, Soraya did regular self-examinations). When she got home, she immediately went to the doctor. The news was not good. Soraya had Stage 3 breast cancer. She was 31 years old. Soraya's music career was thriving. At the time her breast cancer appeared, she had released three albums (Soraya was the first artist to release albums both in Spanish and English at the same time so in actuality she had made six albums). The title song of her first CD "On Nights Like This" was about her mother and the night she passed. Soraya started chemotherapy treatments immediately. Two weeks later, she received a call from Columbia. Her aunt had passed away. Soraya says it was that moment she decided to stop asking herself "Why Me?" and start asking "How do I?" Although she had always been a crusader for breast cancer awareness, she decided to take on a more active role.

A history o f England generally turns out to be the history of a few of the better known people o f England in each century o f the last two thousand years. I think it should mean the history o f our Land, and should include what we know o f the history o f its people before any written records were made. I have to thank the King in Parliament for permission to republish them, though I have no doubt that permission would have been granted me even had I no legal right to republish.

I guess I shouldn't say "the uniform of" -- the truth is that I am a bicycle messenger now -- it's how I'm employed. I used to be a hot- shit marketing exec but now I'm just a grunt charged with materials too important to be fedexed across town. We get coffee at the same Starbucks, right about 8AM, give or take 120 seconds. You must go in to work earlier than is really necessary since your office is right down street. Either out of obligation or more likely out of a need for solitude, a need to slowly sip your coffee, maybe check your hotmail.
