WEEKLY NEWSLETTER October 8, 2019 WEEKLY NEWSLETTER October 8, 2019 Dear Families – Congratulations to all of our 5th – 7th grade students that will be receiving their sacrament of confirmation tonight. We are excited to see our students complete this next phase of their faith journey. Congratulations to our Shamrock Baseball Team – placing 2nd in the IESA state tournament! What an accomplishment!!!! I was pleased to see the many fans and supporters of our students in Peoria the last few days as well! We will have a celebratory pep rally to allow the team to present their state trophy to the school on Friday at 11:00 am. We will dismiss as planned at 11:30 am. And of course, with a pep rally – we need a spirit wear day. Please encourage your child(ren) to wear their Shamrock wear on Friday! Super job – baseball boys! I would also like to congratulate Cade Emerick who qualified for state in the 500 meter free style swim race this past weekend as a member of the YMCA Jacksonville Sharks Swim Team. Great job Cade! Please note the change on October 23 with JSD 117 bus service – there will be no PM bus on that day – only morning bus. Sorry for the confusion. Parent/Teacher Conferences: Just a reminder to please go out and schedule your parent/teacher conferences. If a parent does not schedule a conference by October 18th, then the teacher will schedule the conference and communicate the conference time with the parents. Please sign-up by going to: https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Our_Saviour_School Change in Office Procedures: Effective Tuesday, October 16th, we will be adding additional security to our main office. Parents will be asked to pick up the phone in the vestibule and push the appropriate button labeled for the office to communicate their need to the office personnel. Also, a slight change is being made for our after-school program in that parents will pick up the headset and then push the appropriate after school button (Pre-K or K – 8) rather than pushing two buttons like they normally do. Adding a handset will not only allow for the OSS staff on the receiving end to hear the person more clearly, it will also add some privacy should the OSS staff say something to the waiting party. Thank you for helping us to make our schools safer. Athletic Passes: Parents may purchase a combined athletic pass for Routt and Our Saviour school. You may purchase these passes at the Routt office Monday-Friday, 7:30 - 4:00. Individual passes are $75, Couples (2 passes) are $110 and Family (2 passes) are $160. Family passes allow for immediate family members living at home to have free admission for all 2019-2020 regular season athletic contests at both Routt and OSS. Halloween Parade: Our Halloween parade is approaching soon and I want to remind those parents coming to watch to park like dismissal time. Please do not park in the parking spaced. Students will be dismissed in the regular fashion at dismissal at 2:50 pm. Non-uniform for a Cause: Thank you to all those that wore PINK on Monday, October 7th for the RCHS Volley for the Cure. We raised over $200 for this worthy cause. Pie Sales: Parent Club pie sales have gone home with youngest and only. It is a 2 week sales campaign with forms due in the office by October 16th. Pies will be delivered November 18th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the KC Hall. Please note that you must be able to pick-up your pies or find someone to pick them up for you. Thank you for supporting our Parent Club, who does many wonderful things for our school. All Amazon Shoppers: Our Saviour School is now a listed charity among the smile.amazon.com website. To easily find and support our school, go to: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/37-0662517 Happy Shopping and Thank you for your Support!!! Immunizations and Physicals: Notifications are being sent regarding immunizations or physicals. Please provide us that information ASAP, if you are contacted. If a child does not comply by October 15 with proof of immunization and/or physical requirements, then they shall be excluded from school until the school receives such proof. Thank you for making this a priority! After-school program: Just a reminder that we do not have any after-school program for our Pre-K and K – 8 students when we dismiss early. We have early dismissals on Friday, October 11, October 23, and October 24 this month. No School Days: Just a reminder that we do not have school on October 14 and October 25 this month. Math Night: Math night is on the calendar for November; however, we will be rescheduling it for February 13, 2019. More information to follow. Lost and Found: We have many items that are in our lost and found. Please make sure you place names on outerwear and lunch boxes to assist with this. 2019 Shamrock Scramble: On Sunday, October 13th, the 2019 Shamrock Scramble Golf Tournament--the Pat and Mike Garde Memorial Golf Tournament--will be held at The Links Golf Course. The event will be a 12:30 shotgun start. Entry fee is $65 a person, which includes greens fees, cart, skins game, hole prizes, and food at the KC Hall after the tournament. Proceeds will go to the Knights of Columbus/Pat & Mike Garde Athletic Account for OSS & RCHS Athletics. To sign-up a team, call Pat Gibson at 370-8890 or The Knights of Columbus at 243-1015. If you are not a golfer, but would still like to contribute, Hole Sponsorships are available for $25 (Shamrock Green Level), $50 (Rocket Purple Level) and $75 and up (Golden Dome Level). Contact Pat Gibson to be a sponsor. Chess: Due to not having a coach, we will not be having chess this year at Our Saviour School. Vision and Hearing Screenings: On Thursday, October 10th, a technician will be at Our Saviour School to screen students for vision and hearing. Students in grades kindergarten, second, 8th, new students, and any students recommended by teachers will be screened for vision. For hearing, students in kindergarten, first, second, third, new students and any students recommended by teachers will be screened. Please refer to the handbook for questions. Scrip: Please see the attached flyer regarding Scrip savings! Mrs. Schumacher’s class challenged us to “Be the One” to be like St. Therese by spreading God’s love in “little ways” this week at home and at school. They have created a “garden of good deeds” in our front entryway to show the various ways our students have “shined their light” for Jesus! With this letter going out in the middle of the week, this will serve as the Parent Letter for both last week and this week.
