ANNUAL REPORT 2011 TO OUR STOCKHOLDERS: I am pleased to report that KLA-Tencor performed at record levels on several fronts in fi scal year 2011. We achieved company records in our most critical fi nancial metrics, including revenues, net income, earnings per share and profi t margins, and our year-over-year revenue growth signifi cantly exceeded that of our peer group and our industry. At the same time, we generated record free cash fl ow and continued to deliver meaningful returns to our stockholders in the form of dividends and stock repurchases. This performance was the result of our unwavering focus on develop- ing market-leading technology, addressing our customers’ most critical needs and driving operational effi ciency. Though our industry has seen a recent slowdown in demand, we remain very excited about KLA-Tencor’s prospects for the future. The long-term demand drivers for KLA-Tencor and our industry remain intact, and we are well positioned to grow as demand for semiconductor capital equipment recovers. Our record results in fi scal year 2011 demonstrate that our strategies are working. Looking back over our 35-year history, we have established a pattern of achievement and leadership, which has enabled us to create the strong foundation from which we now look ahead to the future. Our accomplishments during fi scal year 2011 in each of our four strategic objectives (Customer Focus, Growth, Operational Excellence and Talent Development) are highlighted below: CUSTOMER FOCUS: MARKET LEADERSHIP Our customer focus strategic objective is measured in customer satisfaction and market share. Draft proposal for a European Partnership under Horizon Europe Smart Networks and Services Version 30 June 2020 Summary The European communication networking and services sector is proposing the Smart Networks and Services Partnership to secure European leadership in the development and deployment of next generation network technologies and services, while accelerating European industry digitization. It will position Europe as a lead market and positively impact the citizens’ quality of life, while boosting the European data economy and contributing to ensure European sovereignty in critical supply chains. This document is supported by ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS 5G-IA and the Networld2020 European Technology Platform launched a Smart Networks and Services Task Force to prepare this Partnership proposal in Horizon Europe. AIOTI joined the Task Force. Additional contributors are from Cispe.cloud and the NESSI European Technology Platform. Panettieri Conventional and hosted applications thrive, but open source ERP is coming on strong. Here's how to choose the best type of solution for your own institution. Campus CIOs John Bielec and Bradley Wheeler are IT experts with strikingly similar missions: They want modern enterprise applications to manage their respective universities' critical information. Ultimately, Bielec and Wheeler took divergent paths to ERP (enterprise resource planning) success. Importantly, each CIO carefully assessed campus need and the most current options available, before committing to an ERP solution or solutions. Wheeler, VP for IT and CIO of Indiana University, has focused his efforts on open source ERP. In contrast, Bielec, Drexel University (PA) CIO, is leveraging closed source ERP software, but in a hosted model. Evolution of Options In many ways, the evolution of the ERP market is littered with ironies. When Oracle began buying up customer relationship management (CRM) and ERP companies, some universities worried that they would be left with fewer choices and higher prices. Yet, the rise of open source-coupled with the advent and growth of software as a service (SaaS)-has created a whole range of new ERP options. In addition to Oracle, today's options include Jenzabar, Campus Management, Datatel, SunGard Higher Education, and numerous others. For instance, 20-plus universities have joined the Kuali Foundation, a nonprofit organization driving open source ERP forward. Bigname Kuali backers include Cornell University (NY), Carnegie Mellon University (PA), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Indiana University.
