February 2007 8 ENGLISH This publication represents the outcome of SERIES a joint study conducted in the period 2005- 2006 by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV). Following the European Union’s decision to TURKEY AND open membership negotiations with Turkey, the Turkish contribution to European secu- EUROPEAN rity and defence has became increasingly important, thus requiring further analysis, SECURITY both at national and European level.
