[Investment Climate] Geographical and Hainan is China’s southernmost province. It faces Guangdong Province over the Qiongzhou Social Conditions Strait to the north. It also faces the Gulf of Tonkin to the west and the South China Sea to the southeast. The province is of a subtropical climate with high precipitation and mild temperature differences. There are no four distinct seasons in the area. Resource Distribution Hainan is rich in titanium and holds 70% of China’s total reserves. It also has around 2,000 medicinal plants. Major Industries Agriculture, tourism Infrastructure Railways The area is home to the Hainan Eastern Ring High-speed Railway and the Yuehai Railway (Guangzhou–Haikou). The Hainan Western Ring High-speed Railway (Haikou–Sanya) is scheduled to open in December 2015. Expressways The over-650 km-long Hainan Ring Expressway connects each city and tourist spot within the province. In September 2014, expansion work started on the Fushan Interchange section of the Hainan Ring Expressway. Ports The province has a total of 24 ports including Haikou Port, Sanya Port, Basuo Port and Yangpu Port. It has 34 deep-sea berths capable of handling large-scale container ships. Sanya Haitang Bay International Shopping Center, the largest duty free shopping center in the world, opened in September 2014. It has a total floor area of 120,000 m2. 2. In January 2014, the State Council approved plans to reorganize the administrative districts of Sanya City in Hainan Province. The city will be reorganized into four new districts: Haitang, Jiyang, Tianya and Yazhou. 3. In October 2013, Kerzner International Holdings Limited and Fosun International Limited announced that they would be constructing Atlantis, Sanya Hainan. This will be the first Atlantis resort in China and the third such resort after Bahamas and Dubai. Construction is scheduled to finish in 2016.
