With over 800 members, the Forum offers a number of events throughout the year including site visits to some of the UK’s major energy centres, YEP Fora and an annual YEP Awards ceremony which recognises success and leadership across the varied disciplines which make up the energy industry. EY YEP of the Year 2016 EY YEP of the Year 2016 Award recognises an individual, who has demonstrated a real commitment to the energy industry and combined with their leadership skills, has shown great potential as a future leader in the energy industry.

Innovation The Innovation Award recognises an individual who thinks of different ways of problem solving and approaching challenges, and is not afraid to challenge the status quo.

Customer Focus The Customer Focus Award recognises an individual who has achieved outstanding results in customer service and delivery.

Rising Star The Rising Star Award recognises an individual who has had less than one year experience in the industry, but has already made an outstanding impact.

Team of the Year Team of the Year Award will recognise a group of two or more people who can demonstrate they have gone above and beyond in delivering an excellent piece of work or a project collectively.

Engineer of the Year Engineer of the Year Award will recognise an outstanding engineer who has applied their expertise to make a valuable contribution to their company and/or the wider industry.

The YEP Awards will be judged by an independent panel of industry experts who each take a lead on one of the award categories.

Robert Davis Group chief executive officer, EA Technology Group Robert is the group chief executive officer of EA Technology Group, a technology company operating in the high-tech low carbon energy sector. Robert is a board director of the Cheshire & Warrington Enterprise Partnership and sits on the Chester University Advisory Council. He has a particular interest in asset management, having previously been president of the Institute of Asset Management.

Miranda Kirschel Energy advisor, EY

Miranda is part of EY’s energy & assets advisory team, where she is stakeholder lead on the SMR Techno Economic Assessment for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. She previously held senior business development and stakeholder relations roles with leading engineering consultancies, Atkins and CH2M HILL. She is also founder and president of Women in Nuclear UK.

Averil MacDonald OBE Professor emerita, University of Reading Averil MacDonald is professor emerita at the University of Reading. She leads on both research impact and diversity for the South East Physics Network. She is also chair of UK onshore oil and gas. Averil was awarded an OBE in 2015 for contributions to women in science. She received the accolade of Woman of Outstanding Achievement in Science (2007). At European level, Averil sits on the EU Helsinki Group for Gender in Research and Innovation advising the EU Commission on gender issues.

Ann Robinson Director of consumer policy, uSwitch

Ann is director of consumer policy at uSwitch, an independent price comparison and switching service. She is passionate about empowering consumers and making sure they are equipped to get the best out of a competitive energy market. She sees her role as a continuation of the work she did when she was chair of Energy Watch and is passionate about social issues such as fuel poverty.

Lawrence Slade Chief executive, Energy UK

Lawrence Slade is the chief executive of Energy UK, taking up post in July 2015. Lawrence was Energy UK’s first chief operating officer when it was formed in 2012 and has been involved in the energy industry since the late 1990’s. He ran the Energy Retail Association before Energy UK was formed and was also deputy chief executive and technical director of the in London.

Dr Simon Evans Policy editor, Carbon Brief

Dr Simon Evans is policy editor at Carbon Brief, covering climate and energy policy. He holds a PhD in biochemistry from Bristol University and previously studied chemistry at Oxford University. He worked for environment journal The ENDS Report for six years, covering topics including climate science and air pollution.

Callum McCaig MP MP for Aberdeen South

Callum McCaig was elected as MP for Aberdeen South in May 2015 with a majority of 7,230. In 2011 Callum was made the leader of the Council where he was a councillor at just 27 years old. Callum was appointed the SNP energy spokesperson and has since contributed to proceedings on benefit sanctions, climate change, low-carbon energy generation, the Oil and Gas Authority, onshore wind farms, shale gas and military intervention in Syria.

Graham Dickson Consultant, RWE Consulting Graham is a consultant at RWE Consulting, delivering projects across Europe and the Middle East within the RWE Group. Projects range across the value chain, from RWE’s renewables and generation assets, to their retail and grid companies. Prior to consulting, Graham reported to the CEO of and was responsible for coordinating RWE Retail’s pan-European B2C activities. Graham is an alumni of the University of St Andrews. Sadly while he does not know Wills or Kate, he does play golf!

Susan McDonald Strategic wider works (SWW) submissions manager, National Grid Susan is the strategic wider works (SWW) submissions manager within National Grid. Her role focuses on developing submissions to the energy regulator to secure funding up to the value of £1 billion to deliver new transmission system reinforcements and investment programmes. Susan leads ‘Women in National Grid’ where she devotes time to support the professional development of women, in addition to promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to School and University students. Finally, Susan was the EY YEP of the Year Award winner 2015.

Christine Waata EDF Energy Christine Waata joined EDF Energy six years ago and is now working with international partners on new, innovative reactor technologies. Christine’s black, asian and minority ethnic network role helps her drive positive change and develop employees from diverse backgrounds. She has a masters in Mechanical Engineering, wrote her doctorate on Generation IV reactor concepts and she is a chartered engineer. Christopher Fox National Grid Christopher Fox is responsible for the development and implementation of the European Electricity Balancing Code within GB. Christopher joined National Grid in 2010 and has held various operational and commercial roles, becoming a chartered member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) in 2014. His current role involves building relationships with system operators, regulators, policy makers and industry stakeholders to represent National Grid in Europe. Daniel Connor RWE npower Daniel Connor is an energy manager at RWE npower where he loves the challenge and opportunity of being – unusually - both employee and customer. Daniel gained experience on RWE npower’s graduate scheme with placements in networks, trading and strategy before joining energy management. He also improved RWE npower’s energy and carbon performance. He studied physics at the University of Warwick.

Amy Grisdale Amy Grisdale works in the vulnerable customers team at British Gas steering business change and employee awareness to make the company a dementia-friendly business. Amy likes to see the difference her work makes to the lives of vulnerable customers. She enjoys helping reduce inefficiency and complaints, improving customer satisfaction and working in a team committed to each other’s development and goals.

Jonathon Griffiths E.ON Jonathon Griffiths joined E.ON Marketing & Sales Graduate Scheme in 2014 and rising through the ranks to partnerships development manager. He has been responsible for a range of topics including redesigning customer leaving and winback journeys, launching a retargeting channel within digital acquisition, evaluating market entry options for renewable generation and developing E.ON’s first ever small and medium enterprise (SME) non-commodity product bundle. Laura O’Connell EDF Energy Laura O’Connell joined EDF Energy’s Customer Management Graduate Scheme in 2009 seeking roles providing her with valuable experience in customer services, marketing, public relations and business change. Laura currently leads a continuous improvement programme in smart metering which she loves because it allows her to lead change that improves customers’ experience helping the UK energy industry meet its smart metering commitments. Aimee Bett-Charlambous techUK Aimee Bett-Charlambous is a policy manager for techUK managing their Internet of Things and smart infrastructure programmes, working with industry and government to develop sustainable energy for the future. Aimee previously worked for the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) on improvements to regulation, policy and law and investment in consumer-led, local energy systems. She holds a masters in energy and natural resources law. Paul Lowbridge National Grid Paul Lowbridge is a power responsive manager with National Grid leading an industry-wide programme to encourage demand side participation in GB markets. Paul spent his placement year at National Gris in 2007 before returning to a permanent role in 2011. He has had commercial and technical roles in system operations and enjoys the responsibility of how he can influence in a tangible way.

Mustafa Abdelhadi Elhassan Mohamed Centrica Mustafa Abdelhadi Elhassan Mohamed works for Centrica leading on greenfield & brownfield projects and troubleshooting operating assets in the gas industry. Mustafa is passionate about developing engineers for the future, acting as an ambassador for the industry and engineering. He enjoys the challenge his work provides and is happy because he gets to do what he loves for a living.

Claire Coombes Sofinel Claire Coombes is a Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and Auxiliaries Group leader on EDF’s Hinkley Point C project. Claire’s first substantive role was a system engineer at a nuclear before joining Sofinel as a system engineer. She feels privileged to be part of a large infrastructure project securing society’s future energy needs.

James Eyton Centrica James Eyton joined Centrica three years ago as a graduate mechanical engineer and has particularly enjoyed working in a range of roles and sectors. James has worked in , renewable heating, gas turbine design and in oil and gas. He has enjoyed making new connections and working to solve complex engineering challenges.

Marc Chevalier EDF Energy Marc Chevalier joined EDF Energy in 2011 and now provides technical support to plants. Marc leads procedural development to assess the structural integrity of components. He loves his job as the unique operating regime of EDF’s Advanced Gas - cooled Reactor (AGR) nuclear power plants - means the company must be at the forefront of global research and development.

Simon Evans Atkins Simon Evans is a chartered mechanical engineer at Atkins who previously worked as assistant project manager for DECC’s Carbon Capture and Storage commercialisation programme. Simon has worked on offshore wind, oil and gas in the UK and the Middle-East. He has been involved in the structural and mechanical design, analysis and assessment of offshore structures enjoying providing energy in sustainable and responsible ways. Tom Keyworth EDF Energy Tom Keyworth joined EDF in 2012 as an operations technician during the commissioning phase of its West Burton Combined Cycle Gas Turbine. Tom previously completed an electrical, control & instrumentation apprenticeship at Spalding Energy before transferring to the operations department which gave him a greater understanding and knowledge of wider systems.

Lauren Taylor EDF Energy Lauren Taylor joined the EDF Energy graduate scheme in 2014 and is now completing her final rotation. Lauren has worked in a wide range of teams across the customers business taking the opportunity to get involved in company-wide initiatives and campaigns. She is motivated by the changes facing the energy industry and the challenge of meeting customers’ future energy needs.

Will Heinzelmann Good Energy Will Heinzelmann is a senior research and innovation analyst at Good Energy where he supports innovation, proposition development, public affairs, marketing and communications. Will loves that no two days are the same and his cross-team remit has helped him make a positive contribution to a great number of projects. He started work with Good Energy in 2014 fresh from university.

Tom Timothy E.ON Tom Timothy works for E.ON running an internal start-up business providing smart energy solutions for business customers. Tom believes energy management can enrich and benefit all aspects of society and enjoys working in the industry because of its pivotal role in people’s lives. He joined E.ON in 2015 as a graduate trainee initially working in marketing producing communications for customers. Kirsty Duncan Centrica Kirsty Duncan is a SAP software developer for British Gas working on projects to improve both how smart meter installation and repair jobs are booked as well as how engineer visits are scheduled across the UK. Kirsty enjoys interesting challenges and the problem solving aspect of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. She works with experts from whom she learns a lot.

Ross Gilsenan ESB International Ross Gilsenan is part of the commissioning team at ESB’s Carrington Power Station where he is also lead mechanical and centreline engineer for projects close out. Ross initially worked on the construction and commissioning of the project that will power around one million homes. He enjoys the multiple challenges and experiences his job provides as every day brings something new.

Neil Brooks UK Power Reserve Neil Brooks joined UK Power Reserve as project management coordinator on a complex energy infrastructure project delivering generating capacity across three existing sites in England and Wales. Neil’s commercially-driven approach and use of primarily grey market equipment delivered, at the close of 2014, the first Capacity Market Contracts in the UK energy market. He is a qualified engineer.

The Good Energy Feed-in Tariff (FIT) team supports people choosing to generate their own renewable electricity. Good Energy was established in 1999 and from the start took an innovative approach to generating at home. There are over 40 people in the FIT team, processing and verifying the FIT for around 112,600 sites including homes, businesses and communities.

ESB eCars ESB ESB eCars supports the rollout of electric vehicles across Ireland and beyond. The team is passionate about innovation and creativity, both strong advocates for a world where clean, low-carbon transport is the norm. The team is made up of Ciaran Ferry and Danny Clinton who are ICT specialists. Ciaran’s expertise is in software and Danny is a telecommunications engineer. Amber Green Amber Infrastucture Amber Green manages regeneration and low-carbon funds in London, Scotland and Wales where the money is used to support energy projects and sustainable urban development. The team believes this is an exciting time to be at the forefront of such an important and dynamic sector. The team draws on varied backgrounds but are all focused on delivering new energy solutions.

UK Power Networks Innovation team UK Power Networks The UK Power Networks Innovation team delivers innovation projects including energy storage, power electronics, energy efficiency and low carbon technologies, attracting over £30 million of public funding. The team integrates cutting-edge hardware and software with the provision of insight into the low-carbon future. The team’s average industry experience is 4.8 years at any time employing from two to eight people.
