This methodology has proved to be useful in measuring the economic value of intangible talent in professional sport and in other entertainment industries. In our estimations – and in the elaboration of the rankings – two elements are taken into consideration: popularity (degree of interest aroused between the fans and the general public) and media value (the level of attention that the mass media pays). Bölgenin yerleşim dokusu, tarih içerisinde önemli değişimler geçirmiş, yıllar boyunca ortaya çıkan kültürel katmanlar değişerek günümüzdeki yoğun yerleşim özelliğine kavuşmuştur. Geçmişten beri oluşan bu değişim ve tarihi birikim, günümüzde fiziksel açıdan tam olarak görünebilir durumda değildir. Ancak kültürel olarak bölgenin özelliğini yansıtan ve alanın geçmişi ile ilgili bilgiler veren kayıtlar olmaları açısından sokak adları birer belge olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu kapsamda, Beşiktaş İlçesi’ndeki 23 mahallede toplam 1060 adet sokak adı (yolakadı) incelenmiştir. Sokak adlarında, peyzajın doğal ve kültürel bileşenlerini oluşturan etmenlerle ilgili adlandırmalar peyzaj terimi olarak tanımlanmış ve elde edilen terimler; arazi örtüsü, bitki, doğa olayları, donatı, kültürel öğeler, mevsim, su ve topoğrafya gibi sınıflamalar altında derlenmiştir.     Journal of Applied Finance & Banking, vol. 3, no. 4, 2013, 1-12 ISSN: 1792-6580 (print version), 1792-6599 (online) Scienpress Ltd, 2013 Moneyball in the Turkish Football League: A Stock Behavior Analysis of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce Based on Information Salience Caner Özdurak1 and Veysel Ulusoy2 Abstract Football clubs listed on Istanbul Stock Exchange suggests an interesting way of testing stock price behaviors to different types of news about both sportive success related and non-sports related events. Strong football club stock price reactions to surprising game results and the lack of reaction to betting odds is related with the dominated structure of Turkish Football League by the big four; Galatasaray (GS), Fenerbahce (FB), Besiktas (BJK) and Trabzonspor (TS). Coherent with this idea we conclude that GS and FB stocks react strongly to unexpected game results and derby matches. Other local league match wins do not have such an impact on stock prices. Moreover especially for FB related news rather than game results such as match-fixing case explain most of the price volatilities of the sport stocks. There is also some limited support for the notion that GS and FB stock prices are more affected by the bad news compared to good news.     REVOLUTIONIZING REVOLUTIONIZING Mark Altaweel and Andrea Squitieri and Andrea Mark Altaweel From Small States to Universalism in the Pre-Islamic Near East This book investigates the long-term continuity of large-scale states and empires, and its effect on the Near East’s social fabric, including the fundamental changes that occurred to major social institutions. Its geographical coverage spans, from east to west, modern- day Libya and Egypt to Central Asia, and from north to south, Anatolia to southern Arabia, incorporating modern-day Oman and Yemen. Its temporal coverage spans from the late eighth century BCE to the seventh century CE during the rise of Islam and collapse of the Sasanian Empire. The authors argue that the persistence of large states and empires starting in the eighth/ seventh centuries BCE, which continued for many centuries, led to new socio-political structures and institutions emerging in the Near East. The primary processes that enabled this emergence were large-scale and long-distance movements, or population migrations. These patterns of social developments are analysed under different aspects: settlement patterns, urban structure, material culture, trade, governance, language spread and religion, all pointing at population movement as the main catalyst for social change.
