Feminism as a political act defines this world order as patriarchal and contemplates on deconstructing the ways in which women are oppressed through a series of socially-, culturally- and ideologically- constructed gender identities. Thus, speculative fiction, together with its thematic and narratological properties, may offer an opportunity for women writers to speculate on how patriarchal constructions of sex and gender can be eliminated and what alternatives can be suggested in return. Feminist speculative fiction begun to be produced in the West in the 1960s and 70s, roughly, whereas in Turkey, the production begun as late as the 1990s, which corresponds to the revival of women’s movement in Turkey after the 1980s.

MERIT report on Media Value in Football Season 2014/15 Summary - Main results Authors: Pedro García del Barrio Director Académico de MERIT social value Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) Bruno Montoro Ferreiro Analista de MERIT social value Asier López de Foronda López Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) With the collaboration of: Josep Maria Espina Serra (UIC Barcelona) Arnau Raventós Gascón (UIC Barcelona) Ignacio Fernández Ponsin (UIC Barcelona) www.meritsocialvalue.com 2 Presentation MERIT (Methodology for the Evaluation and Rating of Intangible Talent) is part of an academic project with vast applications in the field of business and company management. This methodology has proved to be useful in measuring the economic value of intangible talent in professional sport and in other entertainment industries. In our estimations – and in the elaboration of the rankings – two elements are taken into consideration: popularity (degree of interest aroused between the fans and the general public) and media value (the level of attention that the mass media pays). The calculations may be made at specific points in time during a season, or accumulating the news generated during a particular period: weeks, months, years, etc. Additionally, the homogeneity amongst the measurements allows for a comparison of the media value status of individuals, teams, institutions, etc. Together with the measurements and rankings, our database allows us to conduct analyses on a wide variety of economic and business problems: estimates of the market value (or “fair value”) of players’ transfer fees; calculation of the brand value of individuals, teams and leagues; valuation of the economic return from alliances between sponsors; image rights contracts of athletes and teams; and a great deal more.

Journal of Applied Finance & Banking, vol. 3, no. 4, 2013, 1-12 ISSN: 1792-6580 (print version), 1792-6599 (online) Scienpress Ltd, 2013 Moneyball in the Turkish Football League: A Stock Behavior Analysis of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce Based on Information Salience Caner Özdurak1 and Veysel Ulusoy2 Abstract Football clubs listed on Istanbul Stock Exchange suggests an interesting way of testing stock price behaviors to different types of news about both sportive success related and non-sports related events. Strong football club stock price reactions to surprising game results and the lack of reaction to betting odds is related with the dominated structure of Turkish Football League by the big four; Galatasaray (GS), Fenerbahce (FB), Besiktas (BJK) and Trabzonspor (TS). Coherent with this idea we conclude that GS and FB stocks react strongly to unexpected game results and derby matches. Other local league match wins do not have such an impact on stock prices. Moreover especially for FB related news rather than game results such as match-fixing case explain most of the price volatilities of the sport stocks. There is also some limited support for the notion that GS and FB stock prices are more affected by the bad news compared to good news. JEL classification numbers: B23, G02, G17, L83 Keywords: Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Istanbul Stock Exchange Sport Index, Information Salience, Sports Economics, GARCH, Time Series. 1 Introduction Football’s, so called Soccer in the USA, recent commercialization is producing an important research field that is not so even at the level that counts-the clubs that create the talent and dazzle the crowds introduced the modern gladiators of our age to us.

In transitBy John L MurphyThe conceit is promising. This novel begins and ends as if the city narrates "herself" to us. But this idea fades and only appears in the middle of the novel rarely. Instead, Buket Uzuner introduces, as so many writers who teach, a professor protagonist. She may be a biologist like the author, but except for a florid paean to lavender, which makes sculptor Ayhan fall for her, there's little hint of this. The bulk of this takes place in the Ataturk Airport.
