He has previously published ISW’s Afghanistan reports Securing Helmand: Understanding and Responding to the Enemy (September 2009), Counterinsurgency in Helmand (January 2011), The Haqqani Network: From Pakistan to Afghanistan (October 2010) and The Haqqani Network in Kurram (May 2011). Dressler was invited to Afghanistan in July 2010 to join a team conducting research for General David Petraeus following his assumption of command and returned twice since. He returned from his third trip to Afghanistan in October 2011 at the invitation of General John Allen.
