For any reuse or redistribution, researchers must make clear to others the licence terms of this work. 2 Abstract This research project sets out to analyse the subtitling of sexual taboo from English to Chinese with particular reference to the TV series Sex and the City, created by Darren Star and broadcast between 1998 and 2004. It commences with an introduction in which the theoretical and methodological scaffolding of the whole project is outlined, with a discussion taking place in the second chapter concerning one of the key concepts in this research, namely sexually taboo words and expressions. After approaching this concept as a subcategory within the wider subject of taboo and taboo language, a taxonomy of various sexually charged taboo categories is then put forward and used later on in the analysis of the case study of this research. -

These were created from two sources: a corpus of albures (drawn from “Antología del albur”) and a Mexican slang dictionary (“El chilangonario”). The morphological dictionary consists of 410 forms of words that corresponds to 350 lemmas. The semantic dictionary consists of 27 synsets that are associated to lemmas of morphological dictionary. Since both resources are based on Freeling library, they are easy to implement for tasks in Natural Language Processing. The motivation for this work comes from the need to address problems such as double entendre and computational humour. The usefulness of these disciplines has been discussed many times and it has been shown that they have a direct impact on user interfaces and mainly in human-computer interaction. This work aims to promote the scientific community to generate more resources about informal language in Spanish and other languages. Jane Moss "Watch your language!" The Special Effects of Theatrical Vulgarity Language is always a hot-button issue in Québec, whether we are talking about the status of French vis-à-vis English or the quality of Québécois French vis-à-vis international French.1 In the 1960s, when writers began to use Québécois French in literary texts, the language issue exploded into la querelle du jouai. While parti-priste a u t h o r s and Michel Tremblay used joual to underscore the cultural poverty of urban working-class Québécois, others believed with Michèle Lalonde (Deffense et illustration de la langue québécoyse) that joual could express the creative genius of a people. While the debate about the quality of Québécois French seemed to quiet down in the seventies and eighties as the political status of French was strengthened by the passage and enforcement of language legis- lation, the argument has been renewed in the nineties, sparked by polemical attacks within the academic community. Linguists are arguing over the publication of Québécois French dictionaries while French teachers debate the pedagogical strategy of stressing communication over correctness.2 The politics of nationalism and class resentment have inevitably coloured the debate as Québécois French has become a sign of political correctness. Those who advocate linguistic correctness, the teaching of standard oral and written French, have been labeled cultural elitists, purists, and (worse yet) petty bourgeois francisants.31 While linguists, essayists, French professors, and editorialists inveigh, we are reminded of critic Lucie Robert's comments on the crucial role of lan- guage in theatre. -
The Social Construction of Sexual Interaction in Heterosexual Relationships: a Qualitative Analysis

Zvonkovic The present study examined the process by which couples, in the context of a heterosexual romantic relationship, participate in sexual activity. As they did so, their interactions helped to construct their relationship. Social construction theory and the gender perspective provided the theoretical foundation for this qualitative research. Nine heterosexual couples were recruited primarily through an introductory course in human sexuality. Each member of these nine couples was interviewed separately using a qualitative, semistructured interview format. Each interview lasted about an hour and questions focused on behavioral and sexual expectations for women and men in romantic relationships. Other areas examined included prior dating relationships and sexual experiences, sexual activity in the present relationship, comfort and satisfaction with the specific sexual experiences in the current relationship, satisfaction with their sexual relationship, and general relationship satisfaction. Qualitative data analysis techniques were used to arrive at five major themes. Results illustrated how women and men constructed notions of gender- appropriate sexual interaction as they participated in sexual activity in their relationship. First, participants' views of sexuality, the meanings they attached to sexual acts, their expectations of specific sexual encounters and of sexual relationships in general, and the choices they made in the navigation process were often based upon social and cultural expectations of what sex is. -

See also HIV, Safe Sex Androgyne / Androgyny A person appearing and/or identifying as neither male nor female, presenting a gender which is either mixed or neutral. Bisexual / Bisexuality - An individual who is sexually attracted to both men and women, or gives the impression of being so. The term also acts as a proper noun for this individual. A common misconception is that bisexuality means being equally attracted to both sexes – in fact, many people who state a distinct or exclusive preference for one sex over another, may still identify as bisexual. An alternative, less commonly used term, is ambisexual. Butch - A term historically applied to a ‘masculine’ (but not necessarily gay) woman or lesbian. Traditionally, the butch used to be paired with the femme in a lesbian relationship. However, the modern butch may prefer other butch women. This archaic term should not be used without full justification, as it is often used derogatively and may cause offence. A famous example of the butch-femme relationship is portrayed in Radclyffe Hall’s novel The Well of Loneliness (1928). -
