    “OFFICE CONSOLIDATION” THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS BY-LAW NUMBER 2012 - 63 A BY-LAW TO ESTABLISH FEES AND CHARGES TO BE COLLECTED BY THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS [Title amended by By-law 2013-22] WHEREAS the Municipal Act, 2001 provides that a Municipality may pass by-laws imposing fees or charges on any class of persons; and, WHEREAS the Planning Act, being Chapter P.13 R.S.O. 1990 as amended, provides that Council may prescribe a tariff of fees for the processing of applications made in respect of planning matters; and, WHEREAS pursuant to the Building Code Act, 1992, S.O. 1992 c 23 as amended, Council may require the payment of fees on applications for and issuance of building permits and prescribing the amounts thereof; and WHEREAS pursuant to the Cemeteries Act (Revised) R.S.O. 1990, chapter C.4 as amended, provided that every owner shall file with the Registrar a price list of all interment rights and cemetery services and supplies that may be sold and all charges that may be made by that owner, approved on January 4, 2006; and WHEREAS the Corporation of the Municipality of Grey Highlands deems it expedient to update the fees and charges to be collected by the various departments of the Corporation of the Municipality of Grey Highlands, NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Grey Highlands hereby enacts as follows: 1.     Time Line By Clare McLean-Wilson 1615 Champlain and the Recollet Missionary Father LeCaron are the first white men to visit the native people that live in what will become Grey County. 1815 Captain Owen, in his ‘little survey schooner’ discovers the harbour that will later be named Owen Sound. 1818 The first native treaty is struck. For the ‘yearly payment for ever of twelve hundred pounds of currency in goods at Montreal Prices’ the land covered by Osprey, Collingwood, Artemesia, Euphrasia and St. Vincent, approximately one million five hundred and ninety two acres, is relinquished by its native occupants. 1833 Charles Rankin comes to survey and lay out townships in “the Wild Land beyond the Simcoe district”. 1835 Tarvas Indians from Wikwemikog and Pottawattamies from the State of Wisconsin join the Ojibway people of this area after their land is given to the Government of the United States. 1836 The Sauking Treaty takes “in the land in the County of Grey from the west of the Townships of Euphrasia and St. Vincent to a line directly west of Owen Sound and extending south from that line probably over all the remainder of the county.” Except Sarawak and Keppel, all of the future Grey County is in white hands. 1841 July 6, the first post office in Grey County is opened in St. Vincent Township. 1848 First year that what will be Grey County has an election for a member of the Provincial Legislative Assembly. 1849 First horse brought to Grey County. It was white and belonged to Arthur Hill Rigland Mulholland, a clergyman.

    Trends and Analysis Summary County of Grey Housing and Homelessness Plan 2014-2024 Introduction The County of Grey is developing a 10 year Housing and Homelessness Plan. The plan is required under the Housing Services Act, 2011 and the Ontario Housing Policy Statement. The Housing Services Act, 2011 requires the plan include an assessment of current and future housing needs in the service area. This brief assessment provides an overview of population characteristics and trends, examines the current state of housing in the County, housing assets, housing needs and housing affordability. This report outlines an environmental scan of the indicators that identify why a housing and homelessness plan is needed for our community and the level of need in the community The information was gathered from a number of documents and reports such as: Grey County Housing Study 2010 Socio Economic and Housing Trends Analysis Report, Housing Services Corporation Statistics Canada HHRC data Profiles, Services Canada United Way 2011 Hunger Report: Hunger Games The report also generates information from various informal statistics gathered from our community partners and programs. Page 2 General Population Indicators The sustainability of a community depends on it’s ability to support all residents in terms of providing various housing types, opportunities and price ranges. Appropriate, affordable and safe housing is key to a thriving community, lack of affordable housing limits economic opportunities and can lead to substandard living conditions.     The Advance Wednesday, October 3, 2018 Standing-room only at Flesherton all-candidates meeting Thursday (by Don Crosby) There’s a great interest among voters for information about candidates in the upcoming Grey Highlands municipal election, as evidenced by a standing-room only crowd at the latest all-candidates meeting in Flesherton. The high interest also shows in numerous all-candidate meetings for Lake Eugenia and Brewster’s Lake; Flesherton, Markdale and Kimberley, and a meet-and-greet planned for Saturday at the Flesherton Farmer’s Market. Much of the discussion last Wednesday was about tourism and economic development. The meeting was sponsored by the Grey Highlands Chamber of Commerce, which posed the first four questions to be answered by all candidates on those topics. There was almost unanimous agreement on what kind of tourism would be good for Grey Highlands. Everyone agreed that accommodations were badly needed. (Mayoral candidates will be marked as M and Deputy-Mayor as DM, all the remaining are candidates for council) Paul Allen said those that promote health and wellness, such as hiking and cycling, as well a business and conference centre would be welcome. Having operated a business in Eugenia for several years Stewart Halliday (DM) would like to see more entrepreneurs. Aakash Desai (DM) favours adventure-based businesses. Terry Mokriy (M) wants more tourism-related businesses and for council to work more closely with the tourism industry. Paul McQueen (M) also thinks more accommodation is needed for both residents and visitors. Danielle Valiquette would like to see more agri-tourism and heritage tourism.
