Most of Mr. Ciardi's papers had already been donated to the Library of Congress, and the society was extremely honored to have these priceless items gifted to us. A "reconnaissance-level" inspection of the materials revealed files of letters, notes, and sketches, as well as honors and degrees, film canisters, and much more. The Society quickly determined that these materials needed to be inventoried and stabilized in archival containers, and felt that a digital finding guide to the collection should be created in order to be properly shared with our members, the public, local schools, on our website, and with any of the institutions at which Mr. Ciardi studied or taught (Bates, Tufts, University of Kansas City, University of Michigan, Harvard, Middlebury, Rutgers). Therefore the Society applied to and happily received a grant from the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission to help fund this work. Archivist and Architectural Historian Jennifer Warren was hired to conduct the grant work, and did so as diligently and thoroughly.
