The Grillmaster Half Case S'Dealproduct-timed-pdf - 2009 Le du Triguedina

Why We're Drinking It

When Homer talked of "-dark seas," this is what he had in mind. Malbec to be sipping all summer long, it's the result of months of effort of searching for a super-drinkable, value-driven red to match with grilled fare. A wine that, in addition to coming from one of ’ leading talents, will match up with and stand up to the most beautifully marinated fare – sans any heartbreak about what the wine set you back. Loved as much for it’s just not being “out there”, as it is for its inky black intrigue, it’s everything Cahors (but the price tag), all the way down to the final touch of mineral and spice. The kind of wine that keeps the palate salivating for more, it’s mystery meets spicy to make for one grill-happy red.

Inside Fact: Malbec was planted in the Lot river valley in what is now southwestern almost 2000 years ago; we fondly call it the "grape of 10,000 names," including Auxerrois, Cot Noir, Pressac, and Malbec in France alone.

Tasting Notes

VARIETAL True to varietal, this Malbec is easy to drink with just about anything. The Malbec dark berry fruit is lush, but not too heavy. It’s a medium weight wine in the APPELLATION mouth with a moderate finish that lingers just enough to pair perfectly with a Vin de Pays du Comte Tolosan plate of cheeses and nuts, but not over power it. ALCOHOL 12.50 SIZE 750ml BLEND Malbec

The Story to Know

Jean-Luc Baldès is one of the leading figures in the Cahors wine region.

The determined attitude of this talented wine-grower has led him to acquire a profound understanding of how to get the best out of his lands and make great from them.

Jean-Luc Baldès, the seventh successive generation in charge of the estate, has known how to take his varied range of wines to the highest level of quality while maintaining the best of his forebears wine-growing traditions. He would be the first to say how much he owes to the teaching of his father and grandfather as well as his wine studies in Burgundy and the region.

He also had several professional experiences of vine cultivation in the Médoc and Barsac regions.

All this inspired him with a desire for the Clos Triguedina to acquire the best techniques he had learned - in vine growing, vinification and the production of specific wines - to be directed throughout at placing the highest demands on quality. Today, Jean-Luc Baldès and his wife Sabine reap the fruits of their labour but never fail to stress the importance of their team and its invaluable work.

Their wines are supplied to nationally-famed restaurants and to the country's highest institutions: the President of the Republic at the Elysée Palace, the Senate and the National Assembly, and individual Ministries.

They also receive regular reviews in the media, including mentions of their numerous successes.

As a wine-grower, Jean-Luc Baldès is recognised as a specialist in the Malbec grape variety. Now in his 50s and the father of five children, he can take justifiable pride in both his professional and personal achievements in life.

Perfect Pairings

Think grilling time: anything basted, marinated, or seasoned, then thrown on the grill - for the vegetarians, think grilled veggies (potatoes, kabobs, zucchini, and more), or a tofu or black bean burger.

I love to barbeque; it’s one of my favorite hobbies and passions. All those pleasant summers’ evenings get spent marinating, seasoning and basting, just working with the fire and food to try and get just the right flavors to show through. It always leaves me searching for that one bottle of that will match up, stand up and won’t make me cry when I get the credit card statement. This delicious bottle, made by Jean Luc Baldes, one of our favorite Cahors producers, fits that description to a “T”. The importer is telling us that this is an invino exclusive, so we’re pretty sure that you won’t find this one in your neighborhood store.

This is one of the tastier, most drinkable I’ve seen in a long time. Appearance –wise, it’s definitely a Malbec with an inky black color and a bright ruby rim. The nose is very appealing, full of black fruits, coffee, some light smoky notes and Asian spices. In the mouth, there’s an array of flavors, black cherry, plum, some minerality and lots of pure, pure fruit. Surprisingly spicy and supple, there’s some crisp acidity that will make it match up with a wide range of foods and flavors. Its fresh fruitiness keeps it light and interesting. The tannins are very soft and the wine leaves your mouth watering. It’s a perfect summertime red wine. I’ll be slugging it all summer long at my house and you should, too! -PM
