FEATURING HONEST PRODUCT REVIEWS AND SPOILER-FREE BOOK REVIEWS. Book Review: The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody. Star Rating: 3.5 of 5 stars Published: September 22, 2015 Started Reading: March 2, 2016 Finished Reading: March 2, 2016. I received this for free courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My Review: I grabbed this book on a whim and I’m really glad I did. I wouldn’t consider this book to be laugh out loud funny, but it did give me quite a few chuckles! It is absolutely ridiculous! The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody is EXACTLY what it sounds like. It’s a satirical look at what Hillary’s deleted personal emails might say. They cover everything from “possible” presidential campaigns and extravagant pantsuits to bizarre girl’s trips and wedding planning. It also parodies the different personality types we all know including: people who “reply all”, frenemies, and obsessive overachievers. It’s laid out in e-mail format and is very easy to follow. Each segment is clearly defined and flows well. There are even some illustrations to really get messages across. Surprisingly, John Moe was able to create some nice character development through these e-mails. Each character was well-written and seemed to have their own voice. Some of the characters and ideas were so far fetched that I really just wanted to believe that they were truth. This portrayal of Hillary is character is very similar to Kate McKinnon’s Hillary impression on SNL. All in all, this was an awesome little in-between-books book. It’s a quick, easy read and is very entertaining. I think anyone could enjoy this book, regardless of political affiliation. It’s a great coffee table book and conversation piece. Political knowledge is helpful, but not necessary. I received this for free courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Author’s Synopsis: The explosive secret e-mails Hillary Clinton doesn’t want you to read (Or maybe she does …She’s crafty like that.) Remember that time Hillary Clinton admitted that she deleted thousands of e-mails from her ultra-secret personal e-mail address while Secretary of State? Thousands of e- mails, she claimed, about her daughter’s wedding? Well, people aren’t buying it: “Hiding the truth” says The New York Post. “Conspiracy or incompetence?” asks Al-Jazeera. “Hillary Clinton Don’t Give a Sh*t” claims Wonkette. Clearly, these e-mails need to be released immediately. Now, thanks to John Moe and WikiLoox, the lost messages have been retrieved and placed in this dossier. For the first time, we’ll get a look inside HRC’s well-coiffed head, reading intimate conversations with family (Bill, Chelsea), friends (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Oprah, Beyonce), and frenemies (Obama, Palin, Putin) alike. We’ll also learn essential details about her private life, from her pop-culture obsessions to her thoughts on yoga, baking cookies, “Scandal,” and much more. Make no mistake—this is a book of critical national importance. Following her journey from mother-of-the-bride to commandress-in-chief, we’ll see how HRC handles the most challenging situations she might face in the White House, including how to respond to people who “reply all” to e- mails and how to wrangle pantsuit retailers as they compete, with increasing desperation, for her attention. Along the way, we will finally get the portrait we need—the one our country deserves —of the woman we may soon call “Madam President.” The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton. John Moe’s book “The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody” figures large on our list of things to do this weekend. WHAT TO READ. “The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody”: Are Hillary Clinton’s emails and pantsuits funny? St. Paul resident John Moe thinks so, and he writes about it in “The Deleted E-Mails of Hillary Clinton: A Parody” (Three Rivers Press, $13). Moe, a contributor to McSweeney’s and former host of American Public Media’s comedy/music show “Wits,” alleges the emails are from WikiLoox, “a group of ingenious cyber freedom fighters who comb the remote recesses of the deep Web to gain access to secret governmental documents. … We are not Democrats. We are not Republicans. We think the whole system is rotten and corrupt.” Clinton’s correspondence spans the years 2009 to 2013 when she was secretary of state and deciding whether to run for president in 2012 or 2016. She gets a message from President Obama thanking her for failing to get a health care act passed because he got the ACA “and I love the ACA.” Bill Clinton keeps asking her if she can’t kick back and join him at parties where they’ll drink and sit in hot tubs. Running through Hillary’s emails to her staff, Supreme Court judges, senators and others is her obsession with Prince, who she asks to be invited to every event she hosts. Then there’s Lance of Cleveland, or Mr. Pantsuit, who keeps her wardrobe in shape. This is a quick read that could be turned into a parlor game with different people reading the emails to and from Clinton. — Mary Ann Grossmann. WHAT TO WATCH ON TV. “The Walking Dead”: Rick Grimes and crew are back to slaying plenty of zombies when Season 6 of the uber-popular “The Walking Dead” premieres on Sunday, Oct. 11 (8 p.m. AMC). Will assimilating into their new homebase of Alexandria prove as difficult as the constant threat of grotesque walkers looking for some fresh human flesh to chew on? Grimes hasn’t earned the nickname “Ricktator” for nothing. Bonus: Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who gave Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) an introduction to the zombie apocalypse in Season 1, is back. — Amy Carlson Gustafson. WHAT TO WATCH ON DVD OR STREAM. “The Go-Between”: It’s tough to find this gorgeous movie on home video but the good news is it’s streaming at amazon.com, iTunes and other services (which, let’s face it, in the absence of the real thing, are our new video stores). It’s worth the trouble. Based on the novel by L.P. Hartley, it’s a heartbreaking story about love and class in which young Leo gets wrapped up in the doomed romance of a wealthy woman and a farmhand (Julie Christie, Alan Bates) who use him to carry their messages back and forth, a bewildering experience that will forever warp Leo’s experience of love. The film was directed by La Crosse, Wis., native Joseph Losey and its screenplay is by the late, great Harold Pinter, who was born Saturday, Oct. 10. ****
