• Conceptual Design Plan identified and recommended improvements in the South Bay Region, including: • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras • Communication Upgrades (Fiber) • Arterial System Detection • These enhancements improve traffic flows and reduce traffic congestion.

Identify and install arterial system detectors at select locations within South Bay Cities to support traffic signal operations and network performance measures • Types of detector technologies studied and available: • Split advance loops, Bluetooth readers, Wi-fi readers, Radar, and Video detection • These devices can provide the following benefits • Enable traffic responsive signal operations • Collect traffic data such as volume, occupancy and speed • Measure travel times on key arterials

Data Requirements Development • Requirements Definition: collect and/or derive requirements for the data needed to support Traffic Responsive Plan Selection (TRPS), which is the targeted functionality
Technology Assessment • Technologies assessed: inductive loop, video, microwave, magnetometer, radar, infrared, hybrid video and radar, Bluetooth
Methodology for Locating Detectors • Created an approach to identify detector locations based on the data requirements developed

Project Development Design Phase I (Complete)
Two Objectives for Phase I
1. Field Investigation
• Traffic Responsive Plan Selection (TRPS) – Iteris confirmed the existence and functionality of detectors and confirmed with the County’s inventory of detectors which ones need to be split for optimum responsive operation
• Bluetooth Travel Time – Iteris evaluated potential placement of Bluetooth reading devices which included checking traffic signal cabinet and conduits for available space
• Video Detection System – Iteris verified conduit fill and any equipment upgrades necessary in the signal cabinet to accommodate video detection systems and evaluate if intersection needs a stop-bar video detection upgrade 2. Video Detection System Design
• Iteris designed traffic signal plans for 4 intersections which will receive new video detection systems Design Phase II – Plans, Specifications and Estimates (In progress)
Three Objectives of Design Phase II
1. Field Investigation of the remaining intersections not included in Design Phase I (complete)
2. Traffic Responsive Plan Selection (TRPS) Design Plans (In progress) • Iteris will produce design plans for 19 locations requiring detector work for TRPS operation
3. Travel Time Device Design Plans (In progress) • Travel time device installation for most locations will be in table format with typical details • For locations where plans are being developed as part of the other tasks above, travel time devices will be shown on the other task’s plans Construction Schedule
