Download: VLT Register of Business Interests 2019 VANGUARD LEARNING TRUST Register of Members, Trustees and Local Governor’s Business, Pecuniary and Personal Interests 2019-2020 Statement of Intent Vanguard Learning Trust (VLT) is committed to ensuring its decisions and decision-making processes are, and are seen to be, free from personal bias and that they do not unfairly favour any member, trustee, local governor, member of staff or any associated person or organisation. Background Every member, trustee, local governor, senior staff at each school and key decision makers and influencers are required, annually, to complete a declaration of interests form on which they are required to declare any conflicts or potential conflicts of interest. A ‘conflict of interest’ arises when the interests or loyalties of an individual member, trustee, local governor or member of staff are, or could be, different from the best interests of VLT itself. This may be something that affects the individual either directly, or indirectly through a family member, friend, business partner or via a personal connection with any organisation other than VLT. Conflicts may be potential as well as actual. A 'potential conflict of interest' arises when there is a realistic possibility that the future interests or loyalties of an individual will, or could be, different from the best interests of VLT itself. A 'conflicted individual’ is an individual that in a particular situation has a conflict of interest or a potential conflict of interest. At the beginning of every board meeting, board committee meeting and local governing body meetings attendees are asked to disclose any conflict or potential conflict that may exist with respect to any item on the agenda. The minutes will record any such declarations, and the manner in which any conflict was handled. The declaration of interest records are kept by each school and the VLT declarations are kept at Vyners School.
