Nature Interpretation Plan for High Nature interpretation plan for High Coast and Kvarken Archipelago - to communicate the Ice age and land uplift Text: Malin Henriksson and Anna Carlemalm Translation: Lingsoft Layout: Consid Communication and KMG Turku Cover image: Malin Henriksson Published in 2020 by County Administrative Board of Västernorrland and Parks and Wildlife Finland Lystra - awareness and activities in the World Heritage Site High Coast/Kvarken Archipelago The EU-funded transboundary Interreg Botnia-Atlantica project Lystra developed the High Coast/Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site in the time period of 1.1.2018–31.12.2020. The project produced a nature interpretation plan, updated the knowledge on the geological values of the Site and classified them, produced digital solutions and renewed the pedagogical material on the World Heritage Site. Project Lystra’s lead beneficiary was Parks & Wildlife Finland, and other beneficiaries were the rest of the project partners: County Administrative Board of Västernorrland (Sweden), Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU), Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI) and City of Vaasa in Finland. Project’s total budget was 1,38 million euros. Besides the EU-funding, the other providers of funds in Finland were the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia, Association of the World Heritage Site of Kvarken Archipelago, and Visit Vaasa/ the City of Vaasa.     World Heritage Site Kvarken Archipelago English Västra Norrskär Västra Norrskär is the second largest island in the Norrskär archipelago. On the Municipality island there is a 21 meter high brick and stone lighthouse that was built in 1846. Korsholm The lighthouse was automated in 1987 and it is now one of the most luminous lighthouses in Finland. There used to be a functioning pilot house on the island in Coordinators the years 1922-1970. The island has a highly varied wildlife. It is mainly made up of 70305:31790 brushwood fields that spread over different gravel, stone, and rock formations. Of trees there are only a few alder groves on the island’s shores. In the summer new Driving directions born water birds and gulls swim around in the small ponds. Coming from Vaasa first drive about 20 km along Alskatin- tie (724) to Replot. Then turn left towards Vallgrund onto the road 7242. Drive about 7,1 km and turn right onto the road 7245 towards Klobbskat. After driving along this road about 16,3 km you will arrive at a sharp turn, where the road continues to the left (Klobbskatvä- gen). After driving about 1,9 km along this road you will arrive at the Klobbskat fishing harbour. At the port there is ample parking space, at least on the northwestern side. From there one can get a fishing boat ride to Norrskär with pre- vious arrangement. The sea jour- ney is more than 25 km long and goes towards the west southwest Thanks to the different sea weeds that have been washed on land over the (WSW).

    Draft Concept Paper: World Heritage Site Manager Workshop, Denmark 21 24 April 2009 Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit The Heritage Agency of Denmark has generously decided to host a workshop on the Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit (EoH). Representatives from all the Nordic sites are invited to attend. Nordic World Heritage Foundation will in cooperation with the Danish authorities organize this workshop in April 2009. The workshop is a result of the recommendations from the Periodic Reporting process. 1. Background and objectives The European Periodic Report was submitted to the World Heritage Committee at its 30th meeting in Vilnius 2006. The Nordic Baltic sub-regional report, annexed to the regional report, identifies a number of challenges for the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in the sub-region. Periodic Reporting is widely recognised as an important tool to strengthen and maintain the integrity and credibility of the World Heritage concept. The Periodic Reporting process has so far been successful in developing international cooperation and in providing an account of the status of World Heritage sites. This workshop follows the recommendations from the meeting between the Nordic and Baltic States Parties in 2007 (see Annex I Recommendations from the meeting on Periodic Reporting, Helsinki 3-4 May 2007 no: 6, 7 & 12). The World Heritage Committee will examine the Periodic Reporting follow-up activities for the European region at its 34th session in 2010. The Enhancing Our Heritage Toolkit contains twelve practical tools. Although it has been developed with a focus on natural properties, the initiative also has potential value as a tool to assist site managers of cultural properties.

No. The world needs help. The problem is not the outliers; it is larger groups of people that need to change. Outliers will always be present. The world needs religious-minded policymakers to take giant steps that lead to peace, but in a mutually beneficial way. Indeed, peace for peace’s sake is not always enough incentive to all parties involved. Therefore, if the conflict cannot be resolved by tolerance, then let it be resolved by greed as we find a way to help the countries involved to achieve a better economic position. If the conflict cannot be resolved by boosting the corresponding economies, then let it be resolved by fear as we convince the nations involved that one false move means it will be - 2 - their country against the rest of the world and not just their “enemy of the day”.
