GALAXY INTERNATIONAL INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH JOURNAL (GIIRJ) ISSN (E): 2347-6915 Vol. 9, Issue 6, June (2021) PERIPHERAL UNITS OF PROPER NOUNS (WITH EXAMPLES OF FAMOUS PEOPLES’ NAMES IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES) X. B. Samigova Associate Professor Translation Theory and Practice Department, Uzbekistan State World Languages University S. Sh. Khaydarova Teacher, Foreign Language Teaching Methodology Department, Uzbekistan State World Languages University ABSTRACT The article is devoted to the actual means of linguistic expressiveness - periphrases. The focus is on the final periphrases famous persons in modern media texts, and in biographical books; the peculiarities of their creation and use, taking into account linguistic and extralinguistic factors. Throughout the research, the position of peripheral units was studied and the sources were analyzed. Keywords: Periphrasis, peripheral units, proper nouns, notion, media text, nomination, expressions, personal names, nicknames. PERIPHRASIS Foreign and local linguistic scholars have conducted a great deal of research on studying the notion of periphrases. Indisputably, the notion of periphrasis is defined in various characterizations, for instance, in the Webster’s dictionary as following “…denotes the use of a longer phrasing in place of a possible shorter and plainer form of expression. Originally, the word periphrasis comes from the Greek word periphrazein, which is made up of the prefix “peri- ” meaning “round about” and “phrazein” meaning “to declare” recitation texts with own words. [16] Linguist scholar Galperin defines the term of periphrasis as following: “Viewed from the angle of its linguistic nature, periphrasis represents the renaming of an object and as such may be considered along with a more general group of word designations replacing the direct names of their denotata” [2]. -

Wäre Alexander Potebnja Ein Kantianer in Der Sprachphilosophie Gewesen?
Studia Slavica Hung. 50/3–4 (2005) 211–233 Wäre Alexander Potebnja ein Kantianer in der Sprachphilosophie gewesen? SERHIJ WAKULENKO Харківський національний педагогічний університет ім. Г. Сковороди, кафедра української мови, вул. Блюхера, 2, Харків, 61146, Україна E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: A number of authors have claimed that Potebnja’s linguistic theory contains evident traces of Kantian influences. In the field of epistemology, indeed, both Potebnja and Kant were convinced relativists, and a number of philosophical notions commonly associated with Kant’s doctrine are easily found in Potebnja’s works. On the other hand, direct references to Kant are extremely rare in Potebnja’s writings. In fact, according to Potebnia, the central problem of linguistics and philosophy was that of interrelation between language and thought, which had been practically ignored by Kant. A possible approach to the question of Potebnja’s supposed Kantianism implies the existence of intermediary sources instrumental in conveying some Kantian elements into Potebnja’s own theory (Humboldt, Herbart, Steinthal, etc.). Indeed, some scholars tend to regard the whole philosophy of language of German Roman- ticism and its psychologically-tinged positivist continuation as a sort of response to the problems left unresolved by Kant. Potebnja did receive some important stimuli this way, although they rather concerned the formulation of the problems than their solution. The main points of Potebnja’s discord with Kant concern the existence of a priori mental contents, the role of language in the transformation of sensorial data into concepts, the (non-)arbitrariness of the linguistic sign, the nature of linguistic communication, etc. -

ALEXANDER POTEBNJA Ievgeniia V. Bondarenko1 (Kharkiv, Ukraine) I.V. Bondarenko. Kharkiv linguistic school. Heritage. Alexander Potebnja. The article focuses on the scientific heritage of Alexander Potebnja as one of the founders of Kharkiv linguistic school. Potebnja’s seminal books and articles that among many other issues address language origin, human consciousness, and semantics of linguistic units are considered as milestones in the development of state-of-the-art humanities. The article reads his three tenets in terms of philosophy of language and cognitive linguistics. The first tenet concerns correlation between language and thought as a way of accounting for language origin and linguistic abilities of the human. The latter that uses language to communicate his world perceptive experience is ascribed a two-facet nature as both an individual and a nation. This tenet is viewed as one anticipating the underpinning principles of cognitive linguistics and theory of the national construal of the world. The second tenet concerns mental evolution of humanity. Potebnja sees it as a contiguity of image and meaning that diverge evolving in myth, poetry and prose. This tenet is considered as an anticipation of Popper’s Evolutionary Epistemology and Westman’s theory of the ontogenesis of the psyche. The third Potebnja’s tenet focuses on the symbolism of linguistic units. The exclamation and the word are juxtaposed in terms of their internal and external forms. The word and the exclamation are analyzed as signs that render meaning by way of, correspondingly, either indicating to it or symbolizing it. -
