KASYFUL ANWAR DALAM DINAMIKA SYARAH HADIS BANJAR (Studi Kitab al-Tabyi>n al-Rawi> Syarah Arba‘i>n Nawawi> ) Munirah, M. Hum STAI RAKHA Amuntai Abstrak This article talked about Kasyful Anwar’s contribution to sharh hadith studies in South Borneo, especially in the book of al-Tabyi>n al-Rawi> Syarah Arba‘i>n Nawawi>, a sharh hadith book first had written by Banjar scholars. This book had written by Malay language is very influential for historical development of sharh hadith Banjar. Many Banjar scholars after him follow his characteristic of writing sharh hadith, sharh Hadith Arb’ain. In terms of metodology, this book is written accord with the contents in the book of Arba‘i>n Nawawi> with ijmali< method, short expanation. In explaining the meaning of the text hadith, Kasyful Anwar used content analysis method with al-Qur’an and prophet hadith. Kata kunci: Kasyful Anwar, al-Tabyi>n al-Rawi> Syarah Arba‘i>n Nawawi>, syarah hadis Banjar. A. Urgensi Syarh Hadis: Sebuah Pengantar Al-Qur’an dan hadis merupakan dua hal yang tidak bisa dipisahkan. Keduanya adalah dua sumber utama ajaran umat Islam yang memuat segala persoalan, khususnya agama. Ketika ada permasalahan yang tidak dijelaskan dalam al-Qur’an, maka rujukan kedua setelahnya adalah hadis. Oleh karena itu, sebagaimana al-Qur’an dipahami dan dijelaskan, hadis pun juga dipahami dan dijelaskan maksudnya agar bisa diamalkan dengan baik. Jika pemahaman terhadap al-Qur’an disebut dengan tafsir, maka pemahaman terhadap hadis disebut dengan syarah. Berbagai usaha telah dilakukan oleh para ulama untuk memahami dan menjelaskan hadis-hadis nabi. -

Akh. Muzakki IS EDUCATION DETERMINANT? The Formation of Liberal and Anti-liberal Islamic Legal Thinking in Indonesia Akh. Muzakki The University of Queensland, Australia Abstract: Liberalism and anti-liberalism are two increasing- ly prominent but staunchly opposing streams of Islamic legal thinking in Indonesia. This article analyses the formation of each of the two through an examination of the role of formal education. It focuses on organic intellectuals during two periods, the New Order and the reformasi. Challenging the strongly-held thesis of the determinant role of education, this article argues that both liberal and anti-liberal Islamic legal thinking in Indonesia is a result of not only the intellectual formation in the sense of academic training and access to education and knowledge, but also the sociological background and exposure in building a new epistemic community in an urban context. As a theoretical understanding of sociolo- gical background and exposure, the concept of epistemic community deserves to be taken as an analytical framework in addition to education for the analysis of the formation of the two contesting bents of Islamic legal thinking in Indonesia. Introduction In his controversial speech entitled “The Necessity of Islamic Renewal Thinking and the Problem of the Integration of the Ummah” on 2 January 1970, Madjid argued for a dynamic approach to Islam which requires reinterpretation of Islamic teachings in context with place and time. |Muhammad Muhtadi PENDIDIKAN HUMANISTIK DALAM PERSPEKTIF AL-QUR’AN Ahmad Zain Sarnoto1, Mohammad Muhtadi2 Pascasarjana Institut PTIQ Jakarta Institut PTIQ Jakarta [email protected] | [email protected] Abstract The concept of humanistic education in the Qur'an contains elements including: a) Human education physically and biologically; b) inner human education and psychology; c) social human education and d) spiritual education. Concepts in the perspective of al-Qur'an which become the foundation for a humanist education, including: the nature of human form, the potential of humanity, and the purpose of human creation. The humanization applied in the Qur'an does not leave the role of man on earth as its function and role as "imarah al-ardl," and as a servant who is obliged to serve the khalik as his function and role as "ibad." As for education with a paradigm the humanists contained in the Qurʻan are: First, putting back all educational activities (talab al- ilm) under the framework of religious work which aims to seek the pleasure of Allah. Second, there is a comparison between religious knowledge and general knowledge. Third, freedom in developing science. Fourth, reviewing grounded science so that it can be implemented in daily life and start trying to implement an integrative educational strategy. The activities of human life are based on the spiritual dimension so that they do not harm others. This thought emphasizes the development of human potential in order to be able to portray themselves as „abd Allah and the khalifah of Allah. This education is intended to help students actualize their potential to become independent and creative people who are aware of God's presence in themselves. -

Towards a Re-interpretation of Early Islamisation Processes in Southeast Asia KATE WOODLEY Abstract This essay problematises gradualist conceptualisations of early Southeast Asian Islamisation processes, arguing that although such models offer plausible interpretations of Islamisation processes on a regional scale, they become problematic when applied to local cases of Islamisation. These problems arise primarily because local historical evidence ‘resists’ gradualism as the tempo of Southeast Asian Islamisation processes, as shown by the cases of Pasai and Gresik. This article proposes an alternative conceptualisation of local Southeast Asian Islamisation as a process occurring over long stretches of time punctuated by short periods of rapid change. Not only is this alternative conceptualisation of Islamisation’s tempo more consistent with the evidence from Pasai and Gresik, it also provides an alternative framework for re-evaluating existing theories of the origins and nature of early Islamisation in Southeast Asia. Introduction In a 2006 paper on the historical origins of Islam in Southeast Asia, Southeast Asian Studies scholar Azyumardi Azra criticises Western scholars for their adherence to implicit Orientalist frameworks, arguing that these frameworks influence the nature of theorising on the origins of Islam in the region.1 Ironically, Azra goes on to characterise early Southeast Asian Islamisation as “an evolutionary process”, thereby himself adhering to a hidden framework which views the ‘natural’ tempo of Islamisation as a gradual process, characterised 1 Azra Azyumardi, Islam in the Indonesian World: An Account of Institutional Formation (Bandung: Mizan, 2006), 2. 115 The ANU Undergraduate Research Journal Volume Two 2010 by slow change over historical time. The Malay/Indonesian term, de- rived from the Arabic, is dakwah.1 Although the concept includes efforts to convert non-Muslims to Islam, da`wah primarily refers to activities aiming at strengthening and deepening the faith of Muslims and helping them lead their daily lives in conformity with Islamic principles. Since the birth of Islam, da`wah has been an important aspect of this religion and da`wah activities have always been highly appreciated in Muslim societies. However, in the course of the twentieth century, da`wah activities and organizations have grown par- ticularly strong all over the Muslim world and have adopted new forms and new aims. This phenomenon is related to two major developments which were partly contradictory: a renewed aspiration for international unity of all Muslims, on the one hand, and the formation of modern nation-states with their different religious traditions and – more importantly – their conflicting political interests, on the other hand. Additional factors include the develop- ment of modern means of transport and communication as well as Christian missionary activities.2 Although often associated with revivalism, competi- tion with other religions, or opposition to a secular political establishment, da`wah, understood more generally as organized efforts to strengthen the Is- lamic faith and its practice, is not limited to movements characterized by such associations. -

Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi THE RISE OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS-POLITICAL MOVEMENTS IN INDONESIA The Background, Present Situation and Future1 Hamid Fahmy Zarkasyi The Institute for Islamic Studies of Darussalam, Gontor Ponorogo, Indonesia Abstract: This paper traces the roots of the emergence of Islamic religious and political movements in Indonesia especially during and after their depoliticization during the New Order regime. There were two important impacts of the depoliticization, first, the emergence of various study groups and student organizations in university campuses. Second, the emergence of Islamic political parties after the fall of Suharto. In addition, political freedom after long oppression also helped create religious groups both radical on the one hand and liberal on the other. These radical and liberal groups were not only intellectual movements but also social and political in nature. Although the present confrontation between liberal and moderate Muslims could lead to serious conflict in the future, and would put the democratic atmosphere at risk, the role of the majority of the moderates remains decisive in determining the course of Islam and politics in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative methods, data obtained through interviews, document review and observation, and data analysis techniques using interactive analysis models. The results of the research can be concluded as follows: 1) The University established a Quality Assurance Institute (QAI) at the university level, the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) at the Faculty level, Postgraduate Program, Language Development Center, and Ma’had (campus dormitories) and Quality Control Groups (QCG) at the Department/Study Program level. 2) Compiling quality assurance system planning in documents: quality policy, quality manual, quality standards, quality forms, monitoring, measurement and self-evaluation, internal quality audits, and Management Review Meetings (MRM). 3) Applying the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Action) model which is the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) to produce a cycle of continuous quality improvement.
