March 31, 2011 Road projects gear up in Calgary and area Ongoing highway investment supports economic growth Calgary... The Alberta government will drive forward with highway projects in Calgary and area during the 2011 construction season. “This is about making the strategic infrastructure investments now that will support Calgary and area’s growth into the future,” said Luke Ouellette, Minister of Transportation. “We will keep building to take advantage of a competitive construction market and provide value to Albertans.” Major new projects for 2011 in Calgary and area include: Stoney Trail NW - Construction of the Nose Hill Drive interchange, which opens to traffic by fall 2013. Stoney Trail NW - Construction of the overpass over the CPR line, which will be complete by fall 2012. Stoney Trail NW - Second-stage paving of the main line, which will continue into 2012. Deerfoot Trail - Deck replacement for the northbound Ogden Road flyover bridge, which will be complete by fall 2011. Deerfoot Trail - Deck replacement for the Calf Robe Bridge over the Bow River, which will be complete by fall 2011. Highway 1A - Twinning 6.5 kilometres from Highway 766 to Gleneagles Drive in Cochrane. Major ongoing projects in Calgary and area include: Stoney Trail SE - Continuing the extension of Stoney Trail from 17 Avenue SE to east of Macleod Trail. The $769-million (in 2010 dollars) project is being done as a P3, began in 2010 and will open to traffic by fall 2013. Stoney Trail NW - Continuing construction of the $42-million Crowchild Trail interchange, which started in 2009 and opens to traffic by fall 2011. Deerfoot Trail - Continuing the $9.7-million upgrade to the 96th Avenue NE/Airport Trail interchange, which started in 2010 and will be complete by fall 2011. Highway 9 - Widening and reconstruction of 21 kilometres between Highways 1 and 566 east of Calgary. The $17.3-million project started in 2010 and will be complete by fall 2011.
