7 February 18, 2016 Environmental Stewardship Work Group Themes: Demographics and growth projections: The expected growth locally and regionally will stress natural resources Maintenance and improvement of existing facilities and neighborhoods: Increasing conservation, use of renewables, and energy efficiency will decrease costs and enhance appreciation of nature and quality of life Multimodal Transportation: Support multimodal transportation to decrease , improve health, and increase connection with nature and community Technology: Utilize technology in measuring and achieving desired outcomes. Access to faster internet services will be helpful

• For new building, have standards and practices that emphasize energy efficiency, conservation of resources, and use of renewable energy

• Provide support for older units to increase energy efficiency, conservation, and use of renewable energy

• Continue to use xeric-type landscaping and water use in new developments and promote xeriscaping city-wide Residential Solar System

• P rovide access to nearby open space, parks, and trails city-wide

• Provide opportunities for appreciating, perpetuating, and restoring nature in coordination with Environmental Services, Library Programs, and Cultural Affairs

• Promote and protect native species of and animals when possible
