Relative to recognizing and commending Captain Michael Wendt for his nearly thirty-five (35) years of service and accomplishments as a pilot with Continental Airlines, now operating as United Airlines; and to further extending a warm and sincere Un Dlingko/o Na Si Yu'os Ma'iise' to Captain Wendt for his twenty-six (26) years of invaluable contributions and dedication as a pilot and mentor in the airline and aviation industries of Guam and throughout the Micronesian region.

1 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMITTEE ON RULES OF I 2 iWINA 'TRENTAI TRES NA LIHESLATURAN GUAHAN: 3 WHEREAS, Captain Michael Wendt is a native of Indiana, but in the hearts 4 and minds of many Guam residents he is a "local boy." Captain Wendt is married to 5 Carrie Wendt, and they are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter, Beatrice; and

1 1 WHEREAS, Captain Wendt received his education at Marion High School and 2 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, both in Indiana; and he received 3 his formal flight training through Air Marion, Inc., from 1977 to 1980, before 4 beginning his aviation career as a flight instructor for Britt Airways, based out of 5 Terre Haute, Indiana, from l'vfay 1980 to June 1981; and 6 WHEREAS, while working with Britt Airways, Captain Wendt served as First 7 Officer, or second-in-command, while operating the BE-99 (Beechcraft Model 99), 8 the SA-226 (Swearingen Metroliner), and the FH-227 (Fairchild Hiller 227) aircrafts 9 from June 1981 to July 1984; and I 0 WHEREAS, from July 1984 to July 1985, Captain Wendt served as a Captain 11 for the BE-99, and from July 1985 to August 1989 as a Captain for the FH-227 and 12 the F-27 ( F27 Friendship), while simultaneously assuming a new position with 13 Continental Airlines first flying as the Captain of the EMB-120 (Embraer EMB 120) 14 regional from March to August 1989; and 15 WHEREAS, since 1989, Captain Wendt has been flying in Guam and 16 throughout the Micronesian region in various capacities during his service with 17 Continental Airlines, now United Airlines; and 18 WHEREAS, Captain Wendt has served as Second Officer and Instructor Pilot 19 for the airliner; as First Officer for the Douglas DC-10 airliner; as First 20 Officer for the airliner; as First Officer for the Boeing 737 airliner; and as 21 Captain for the Boeing 737 airliner; and 22 WHEREAS, the exemplary work of Captain Wendt has been recognized, being 23 awarded as the Continental Airlines' "Employee of the Week" in March 2005; and as 24 the recipient of the 2011 Continental Airlines' Guam "Pilot of the Year"; and 25 WHEREAS, the most recent endeavor being undertaken by Captain Wendt is 26 his transition to become the Captain for the Boeing 787 airliner. He recently

2 1 completed training out of the United Airlines Pilot Training Center at the George 2 Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas (IAH), which included, as the last 3 segment of his B-787 training, a trans-Atlantic flight from IAH to Heathrow Airport 4 in London, England. Upon completion of the training, Captain Wendt will be based 5 out of the San Francisco International Airport; and 6 WHEREAS, in addition to his distinguished career as an airline pilot, Captain 7 Wendt has also used his aviation experience to give back to the community, to include 8 assisting with the relief efforts, which were coordinated by the Ayuda Foundation and 9 the Guam r-.1edical Society, in the aftermath of the 2004 earthquakes and tsunamis I 0 which devastated several Asian countries such as Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and 11 Thailand; and 12 WHEREAS, Captain Wendt has been a presenter at various Career Day events 13 at Guam's public and private schools, in which he has not only shared his experiences 14 as a pilot, but has also provided students with invaluable information about flying and 15 other aviation related occupations. The knowledge he has imparted to members of the 16 island's younger generation has increased the understanding of the airline and aviation 17 industries, and he has helped encourage young individuals to pursue careers in the 18 field; and 19 WHEREAS, Captain Wendt has been a witness to mergers within the airline 20 industry and he has experienced the evolution of a notable airline company, beginning 21 with Continental Airlines, then transitioning to Continental Micronesia, Air 22 fv1icronesia, and currently operating as United Airlines; and 23 WHEREAS, throughout his nearly thirty-five (35) year aviation career, Captain 24 Wendt has impressively accumulated over twenty-eight thousand (28,000) flight 25 hours; now therefore, be it

3 I RESOLVED, that the Committee on Rules of I lvfina'Trentai Tres Na 2 Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of I Liheslaturan Guahan and the people 3 of Guam, recognize and commend Captain Michael Wendt for his nearly thirty-five 4 (35) years of service and accomplishments as a pilot with Continental Airlines, now 5 operating as United Airlines; and does further extend a warm and sincere Un 6 Dangkolo Na Si Yu'os lvla'ase' to Captain Michael Wendt for his twenty-six (26) years 7 of invaluable contributions and dedication as a pilot and mentor in the airline and 8 aviation industries of Guam and throughout the Micronesian region; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, that the Speaker and the Chairperson of the Committee on Rules 10 certify, and the Legislative Secretary attest to, the adoption hereof, and that copies of 11 the same be thereafter transmitted to Captain Michael Wendt; to Oscar Munoz, 12 President and Chief Executive Officer, United Airlines; and to the Honorable Edward 13 J.B.
