Yacht Club Nominees for Election

Commodores The Board of Directors & Preservation Fund Trustee 2012 – 2013

Monday, November 12, 2012 Votingn Noon – 8:00 pm Annual Meeting at 8:30 pm SCOTT ALLEN Commodore

Strong business experience with emphasis on

 ………..Strategy

 ………………….Commitment

 …………………………………...Foresight

“The future of our club rests on our combined efforts to the development of new, creative strategies for revenue enhance- ment (to reduce the reliance on member dues), the commitment to our common friendships and the foresight to include more member input and communication in advance of critical actions. “ This is how I began my comments for this page when I was running for Rear Commodore. Now, two years later, I am more convinced than ever that this was the correct path.

This past year I served as Vice Commodore and was Chairperson of the House Committee. Already complete are major renovations to the coat check area, ladies locker room, major renovations to two of our docks, repairs and upgrades to sea walls and the boat launch landing. We are close to the beginning of our reconstruction of the main stairs leading from Main to the 2nd floor and also a master plan for future renovations to the men’s locker room. Less visible, but very im- portant and not always popular, are the several actions taken regarding rules and the enforcement thereof. To me, the most notable piece is the amazing involvement from our members to make all of that happen.

The role of Commodore is similar to a “Chairman of the Board”. This person must act as a leader and to generate con- sensus of the Board of Directors, Management and Membership in order to forge successfully into the future with com- mon purpose. Opposing opinions must be respected and considered and communication are the key to our success.

We are all members and I have continued to support activities to improve the communication and openness for us all.

Membership retention and recruitment is by far the most important focus. We experienced a net gain of more than 100 members this year and are focused to meet or exceed that performance again this year.

Thank you for your consideration in this election. Patty and I look forward to working with you all. Please feel encour- aged to view my campaign website at www.ScottAndPattyForDYC.com. For information about the company I run, please go to www.FOURMIDABLE.com.

Please feel encouraged to contact me at (248) 841-3656 or by email at [email protected] if there is any way in which either Patty or I may assist you.

Vote Mark Baker DYC Board of Directors

Working Hard for our Future

Hello: Let me introduce myself I am Mark Baker. I am pleased to have the privilege of running for DYC Board of Directors. I have been a member of the Detroit Yacht Club with my wife and 2 teenage daughters since 2006. We have been active in the youth swim team and also support junior sailing. We dock our sailboat “Phoenix,” a Catalina 380 in Lagoon 61. I have been a recreational and racing sailor for most of my life

I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and my professional degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

I have been working at Henry Ford Hospital as a Physician’s Assistant in the division of cardiac surgery for which I am the Chief P.A. I have a great deal of medical per- sonnel management and financial management experience. The latter specifically relate to the skills I would bring to the DYC board.

As I stated before, we joined, initially, so our daughters could join the swim team and wanted a good harbor for our boat. Since joining, the Club has become a 2nd home for us. Our weekend resort, in the city, for the entire family, if you will. Many of you may know our daughter Leah, who has worked as a lifeguard for the past 4 years. We spend a lot of time at the Club year round for both business and pleasure. We have actively supported the swim team throughout our stay. This is an important part of our mission, to support and promote youth activities.

I have decided it is time to give something back to our Club. The best way to do this, I believe, is not just to be an active member but also to be active in the operation of the Club. I feel that I have a lot to offer the Club, given the oppor- tunity.

I believe our current efforts to grow membership and to secure our financial future are generally on target. It is of utmost im- portance to continue to grow. I would like the opportunity to con- tribute to this particular effort, as well as being an advocate for our youth programs. VOTE for Todd J. Eib Board of Directors

I’ve been fortunate in my life, to have been surrounded by friends and associates of the highest caliber; whom I’ve been able to learn lessons in life and business from. In my broad career, I’ve had to make very tough decisions and adapt to changing climates. I am known professionally and in my personal life as a hands-on guy with a positive attitude and I am looking forward to working for the members of the DYC.

I was honored to be asked to run for the Board of Directors. My focus at DYC is two-fold, pertaining to our finances and membership growth/retention. These are key areas that need a concentration of talent and dedication; areas I can significantly assist in a positive direction. I am currently on the Membership Committee in an Ambassador role, assisting new members in becoming acquainted with our club and activities. While we continue to grow in the Intermediate category, we need to balance the wonderful traditions we carry on, while gauging the changing socio - economic conditions of newer members and younger families. I will work hard and utilize my experience to help further refine our budgets to ensure a positive and profitable future for DYC.

VOTE DAVID A. LILLY FOR DYC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

It is an honor to have been selected by the Nominating Committee to run for the position of Director. I joined the DYC in February 2011, shortly after I moved to Detroit. After touring the club during a Belle Isle event, I was enormously impressed by the role that the club - both its members and the historic clubhouse -- have played and continue to play in the incredible history of the city of Detroit and in the wider world. Continuing and improving upon that great tradition is personally very important to me, and I think important to all DYC members. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a member and actively sought additional ways through which I might contribute to the club, principally through work on the advisory board of the Detroit Yacht Club Foundation. At the end of every club evening, as I drive back over the bridge to the park, I remark to myself or friends who are with me about what a great time I’ve had. * * * DYC Activities • Chair of the Communications Committee for the Detroit Yacht Club Foundation, 2011-present. • DYC Flying Scots participant, 2011; awarded helmsman card. • Member, DYC Wine Society, 2011-present. * * *

Vote for David A. Lilly on November 12! KELLI MURPHY for DYC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

DYC needs involved members to take on leadership responsibilities. Our Club is unique in many ways- our historic facilities on Detroit's beautiful Belle Isle Park, our boating and sailing heritage and generations of loyal DYC members- but there are also ways we can simplify and improve the DYC's processes to align with consumer (member) experiences and expectations at other high-end facilities. As a Board of Directors, elected member representatives should challenge and empower our skilled, professional management team toward excellence in execution of their roles. Overseeing and encouraging well-thought-out, realistic and consistent short- and longer-term strategic goals for member services, facilities maintenance and management, and membership growth are all part of what a member-representative board can bring.

Some specific areas I’d like the DYC Board to focus are:

 Balancing membership affordability and service offerings,  Infrastructure (buildings, docks/harbor, and grounds) assessment and utilization, and  Continued improvement in financial transparency and communications.

My professional skills and DYC experience of several years of leadership in DYC club organizations would enhance the effectiveness of DYC's Board of Directors. I look forward to your vote!

My Background & DYC Involvement

Career-wise, I'm an attorney and currently work at Ford Motor Company as state tax counsel.

I'm also a boater and my husband, Sean, and I own two sailboats. At DYC we have Double Jeopardy, a Tartan 10, in the Lagoon. Our "floating get- away" is Let It Go, a Pearson 28, whose home port is Port Sanilac on Lake Huron in Michigan's thumb.

Sean and I joined DYC in 2004 with the intention of spending a year or two honing our sailing skills in the DYC's Flying Scots program. Despite our short-term intentions, we found ourselves welcome and impressed with DYC and now consider ourselves members for life. We’re both actively involved in sail racing and instruction and have taken on leadership responsibilities with Flying Scots club, serving as Race Chair, Instruction Chair and three years as Program Chairs. During this time, I launched the DYC Flying Scots e-mail newsletter, our webpage (with on- line instruction program registration), and a presence on Facebook.

In addition to my sailing involvement, I chaired the 2010 Member Task I encourage you to learn more Force, drove exploration of changes to DYC membership categories for about me and ask me questions single members, and worked on development of a ballot proposal on on my campaign website: proxy voting. I also regularly represent DYC membership at boat shows www.kellifordyc.com or email and faithfully participate in DYC volunteer work days such as the Vice me at Commodore's Ball (a/k/a Spring clean up). In 2010, Sean and I were [email protected] with honored to receive the Theuerkorn Award for service to DYC. your thoughts about DYC.

Dan “Let’s Go” Nowicki for Director

My good friends recognize the “Let’s Go” as one of my favorite sayings. It represents my can do, get things done attitude and the ability to get people motivated and moving in the desired direction. Not only do I use this saying in my social life, I commonly use it when I am interacting with my business peers or leading my teams.

Why Vote for Dan Nowicki?

I believe that my 20 years experience as the lead financial person in various manufacturing companies, currently as the Divisional CFO for Hampson Aerospace, a UK public company is exactly what the club needs in these difficult financial times. In my current position I am responsible for the finance/accounting function for 3 plants in North America with $200M in annual sales. Not only am I a hand’s on finance person, who loves getting involved in the operational side of the business, I have participated in developing sales strategies and strategic plans.

As a member of the Detroit Yacht Club since 2004, my family and I have gotten very involved in all the club has to offer. My three children, Danny, Katie and Abigail are all involved in the summer swim team and have swam on the winter swim team. They have also participated in the sailing and tennis programs. Our boat “Knot Enough Time” is on Midway 14, which we enjoy living on all summer.

I have spent the last two years on the Board, helping steer our club through difficult times and at the same time learning what it means to be a director. I am heavily involved in the Gold Cup Fundraiser Committee, its’ 2012 Chairman, which raised $85,000 to help ensure the hydroplanes continue to run on the . This event is a big revenue generator for the club and major historical event. I have participated in numerous vice commodores’ balls, helped in building the midway picnic area, and supported summer swim/sailing programs. My wife, Tina has been the Midway dock representative and is the ladies locker room representative. We have also hosted the Muscamoot Bay raft-off for the past four years.

Why am I running?

I am running for the Board again, because I love this club, the history, the tradition, and the great people that are members. In my eight years as a member, I have developed great friends and great relationships. My children have also developed great friends and lasting memories that I hope will remain into their adult life. I want to continue to commit my time and business expertise to ensure a solid future for the DYC, so that my youngest daughter can enjoy what her older brother and sister have enjoyed. I have also received positive feedback on my first term and want to continue to work for the DYC membership. I am asking you to vote for me again as director so that I can continue to help secure a solid future for the DYC. HOWARD TRERICE for DYC Board of Directors
