In the presence of the Council and the European Commission 1. Adoption of draft agenda Decision: The draft agenda was adopted in the form shown in these minutes. 2. Chairperson's announcements The Committee decided to set a deadline for the motion for a resolution on the Statute of the Members (Privileges and immunities) on 10 May 2006 at noon; the vote will take place on 30 May. The Committee appointed: Mr Lehne as Rapporteur for the immunity case of Mr Onesta. The Committee welcomed the intention of the Rapporteur to prepare a new version of the draft report and decided to further discuss this issue. 5. Payment services in the internal market JURI/6/32377 Draftsperson: Rainer Wieland (EPP-ED) The following spoke: the Rapporteur, Jean Allix (Commission), Jean-Paul Gauzès. 7. Mutual information procedure in the areas of asylum and immigration JURI/6/35958 Draftsperson: Diana Wallis (ALDE) The following spoke: the Draftswoman. Decision: the Committee unanimously decided to maintain Article 171 as the appropriate legal basis for the Commission’s proposal. 8. Any other business - Term of office of the Directors of Community Agencies The following spoke: the Chairman, Maria Berger, Bert Doorn. The debate within the Committee showed that the last proposal of the Austrian Presidency was widely welcomed. The meeting adjourned at 17.30 and resumed on Thursday, 4 May 2006, at 9.15 with Giuseppe Gargani (Chairman) in the chair. In camera 9. Decision: the following amendments were adopted: 2, LIBE C, 5, LIBE G, 8 (orally modified), 1, 10, 14 (first part), LIBE para. 6, LIBE para. 7, 17, 18 (first part), 22+18 (second part); the following amendments were withdrawn: 3, 4, 11; LIBE para. 2 was adopted without votes under enhanced cooperation; the Committee adopted the amended report with 14 votes in favour, 7 against and one abstention. 11. Measures to give effect to accession to the Geneva Act concerning the international registration of industrial designs JURI/6/32918 Rapporteur: Michel Rocard (PSE) The following spoke: the Rapporteur (who withdrew his amendment).     Mr Josep Borrell Vice-President of the European Commission High Representative of the Union for the CFSP Rue de la Loi 170 1000 Brussels Brussels, 16th April 2021 Dear Mr. High Representative; Mr Vice-President of the Commission: A delegation from the illegitimate National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which emerged from the electoral farce organised on 6th December 2020 by the regime of Nicolás Maduro, recently paid a visit to Brussels and was officially received by the institution you lead. According to a statement you made on behalf of the European Union on 6th December, this spurious process took place in the absence of electoral conditions that could have guaranteed its credibility, without any respect for political pluralism, and in an atmosphere of persecution and disqualification of democratic leaders whose legitimate rights were curtailed. Your statement concludes that such circumstances could not consider this process credible, inclusive, and transparent and therefore the results did not represent the will of the Venezuelan people. That initial statement was confirmed on 6 January of this year by a new declaration, in similar terms to those expressed on 6 December, and by the conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council of 25 January. These reiterated the lack of recognition of the electoral process and regretted the behaviour of the authorities of the Maduro regime, whose actions are preventing a solution to the serious crisis in Venezuela. We were surprised and gravely concerned to learn that on 14th April, at your request, senior officials of the European External Action Service received the aforementioned delegation, comprising Iris Varela, Pedro Carreño and Desirée Santos Amaral, at the EEAS headquarters.

Paul-Henri Spaak, 09B011 60, rue Wiertz B-1047 Bruxelles 7 July 2016 Dear Mr. Schulz, In anticipation of the 14th round of negotiations between the EU and US for the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) planned to start on 11 July in Brussels, we are writing to you on behalf of over 65 organisations representing consumers, farmers, not-for-profit health insurers, environmental and general public interest groups to express our serious concerns that the European Commission is failing to respect the European Parliament’s 2015 Resolution on TTIP. 1 Today, we released new analysis, which demonstrates that the European Commission continues to ignore critical aspects of the European Parliament’s Resolution on TTIP, in particular regarding recommendations related to protecting public health, the environment, and democracy. 1. Negotiating on and affecting EU chemicals and pesticides rules The European Parliament has called on the European Commission not to negotiate on issues “where the EU and the US have very different rules” and not to allow regulatory cooperation to affect future standards in such areas. However, the European Commission has continued to negotiate on issues that will affect legislation on chemicals, pesticides, and cosmetic products, whether directly or through regulatory cooperation. This is particularly worrying because the European Commission is already lowering current EU standards of protection (such as on limits to pesticide residues in food) in order to remove barriers to trade. 2. Respect for the EU regulatory system The European Parliament has called on the European Commission “to fully respect the established regulatory systems on both sides of the Atlantic”.

    THE NEW EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT KEY COMMITTEE COMPOSITION 31 JULY 2019 INTRODUCTION After several marathon sessions, the European Council agreed on the line-up for the EU “top jobs” on 2 July 2019. The deal, which notably saw German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU, EPP) surprisingly designated as the next European Commission (EC) President, meant that the European Parliament (EP) could proceed with the election of its own leadership on 3 July. The EPP and Renew Europe (formerly ALDE) groups, in line with the agreement, did not present candidates for the EP President. As such, the vote pitted the S&D’s David-Maria Sassoli (IT) against two former Spitzenkandidaten – Ska Keller (DE) of the Greens and Jan Zahradil (CZ) of the ACRE/ECR, alongside placeholder candidate Sira Rego (ES) of GUE. Sassoli was elected President for the first half of the 2019 – 2024 mandate, while the EPP (presumably EPP Spitzenkandidat Manfred Weber) would take the reins from January 2022. The vote was largely seen as a formality and a demonstration of the three largest Groups’ capacity to govern. However, Zahradil received almost 100 votes (more than the total votes of the ECR group), and Keller received almost twice as many votes as there are Greens/EFA MEPs. This forced a second round in which Sassoli was narrowly elected with just 11 more than the necessary simple majority. Close to 12% of MEPs did not cast a ballot.     Friday 10 July 2021 Open letter to Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, President, European Commission and Executive Vice President Commissioner Timmermans Call for a massive acceleration of capacity build-up of renewable energy in Europe Dear President von der Leyen, Dear Executive Vice President Timmermans A successful transformation towards climate neutrality fundamentally rests on a European approach towards the massive acceleration of renewable energy deployment for industrial transformation. As a unique alliance between Members of the European Parliament and CEOs from leading companies, which have pledged climate neutrality by 2050, we are jointly calling upon the Commission to show more ambition and determination when it comes to making Europe’s energy system fit, already for 2030. All planned policies and measures being decided now are paving the road to climate neutrality in 2050, and that is why today’s action counts. Today, a massive ramp-up of renewable energy production must ensure that the EU renewable energy system is operational as soon as possible. Although EU’s Renewed Industrial strategy falls short in this regard, with the upcoming legislative package we have another chance to set this right. If the EU is to be a front runner for climate friendly manufacturing through the deployment of low carbon process technologies and ground-breaking innovations, the key enablers are infrastructure, access to abundant renewable electricity supply and rapid commercialization of new processes at competitive energy prices. Without a stronger European policy focus and increased investments boosting the availability of renewables for industrial use, we not only risk delaying needed GHG reductions, affecting industrial competitiveness but also our overall credibility to deliver on our common commitments.
