Karva Chauth is an annual one-day festival celebrated by Hindu and some Sikh women in and parts of Pakistan in which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. The fast is observed in the states of , , Indian , , Western and . The festival falls on the fourth day after the full moon, in the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of , following the Autumnal Equinox. is made of two words, Karva means an earthen oil lamp and Chauth means four. Sometimes, unmarried women observe the fast for their fiancés or desired husbands. The Karva Chauth is a celebration of the beautiful bond between a husband and wife depicting the love, togetherness, and praying for the well-being, prosperity, and longevity of the husband.
