Gastropods is an important role in the decomposition process of litter, especially the detritus Gastropods. The presence and diversity of Gastropods is largely determined by their habitat conditions. The mangrove ecosystem in Lambur Village is currently experiencing environmental degradation. This research aims to find out the diversity of species of Gastropods and know the characteristics of Gastropod’s habitat seen from physical and chemical factor of invironment in the mangrove ecosystem of Lambur Village Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. This research is descriptive explorative, with station determination using purposive sampling. The study sites were divided into three research stations. Gastropods located on the surface of the substrate and attached to the root of the mangrove plant are taken manually by hand collection technique, while the gastropod located inside the substrate is dug collection technique using a shovel. Environmental parameters measured include substrate type, temperature, pH, and salinity. The results obtained were analyzed using index of species diversity and dominance index. Gastropods were found to total 539 individuals including 21 species of 15 genera, which belong to 8 families. The index of the diversity of the three stations was categorized by medium with respectively values of 2,461, 1,893, and 2,533, while the dominant index of the three stations was categorized as low with respectively values of 0.106, 0.201, and 0.096. -
THE LISTING of PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS Guido T
August 2017 Guido T. Poppe A LISTING OF PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS - V1.00 THE LISTING OF PHILIPPINE MARINE MOLLUSKS Guido T. Poppe INTRODUCTION The publication of Philippine Marine Mollusks, Volumes 1 to 4 has been a revelation to the conchological community. Apart from being the delight of collectors, the PMM started a new way of layout and publishing - followed today by many authors. Internet technology has allowed more than 50 experts worldwide to work on the collection that forms the base of the 4 PMM books. This expertise, together with modern means of identification has allowed a quality in determinations which is unique in books covering a geographical area. Our Volume 1 was published only 9 years ago: in 2008. Since that time “a lot” has changed. Finally, after almost two decades, the digital world has been embraced by the scientific community, and a new generation of young scientists appeared, well acquainted with text processors, internet communication and digital photographic skills. Museums all over the planet start putting the holotypes online – a still ongoing process – which saves taxonomists from huge confusion and “guessing” about how animals look like. Initiatives as Biodiversity Heritage Library made accessible huge libraries to many thousands of biologists who, without that, were not able to publish properly. The process of all these technological revolutions is ongoing and improves taxonomy and nomenclature in a way which is unprecedented. All this caused an acceleration in the nomenclatural field: both in quantity and in quality of expertise and fieldwork. The above changes are not without huge problematics. Many studies are carried out on the wide diversity of these problems and even books are written on the subject. -

The aim of this study was to investigate how molluscs in two mangrove creeks (Buenos Aires and Tronco) at the São Marcos Bay, coast of the Maranhão State, respond to spatial and temporal variations in the environment. Sampling was performed in the intertidal area along three zones established using a straight line transect of 100 m. Abiotic variables of water and sediment were measured at each creek. We found 5,912 specimens belonging to 23 species and 15 families of epifaunal and infaunal molluscs. The patterns of their distribution in the two creeks were different. Salinity, dissolved oxygen, and rainfall were the main variables that affected the temporal distribution of molluscs. We found low species richness in the overall mollusc composition. Diversity in the Buenos Aires Creek was lower than that observed in the Tronco Creek, possibly because of activities of a port located in proximity to the former. -
Pedipedinae (Gastropoda: Ellobiidae) from Hong Kong
The marine flora and fauna of Hong Kong and southern China III (ed. B. Morton). Proceedings of the Fourth International Marine Biological Workshop: The Marine Flora and Fauna of Hong Kong and Southern China, Hong Kong, 11-29 April 1989. Hong Kong: Hong Kong University Press, 1992. PEDIPEDINAE (GASTROPODA: ELLOBIIDAE) FROM HONG KONG Ant6nio M. de Frias Martins Departamento de Biologia, Universidade dos A~ores,P-9502 Ponta Delgada, Siio Miguel, A~ores,Portugal ABSTRACT Two species of Pedipedinae are recorded for the first time from Hong Kong and are here provisionally referred to as Pedipes jouani Montrouzier, 1862 and Microtralia alba (Gassies, 1865), described from New Caledonia. A descriptive study of the reproductive and nervous systems was conducted and confirms previous studies that both genera are consubfamilial. The distribution and dispersal of the species is discussed. INTRODUCTION The Indo-Pacific Ellobiidae are particularly well represented by conspicuous, mangrove- dwelling, macroscopic species, relatively few of which have been studied anatomically. Koslowsky (1933) presented a detailed description of Melampus boholensis 'H. and A. Adams' Pfeiffer, 1856. Morton (1955) described the anatomy of Pythia Roding, 1798, Ellobium Roding, 1798 [E.aurisjudae (L. 1758)l and of the small pedipedinian Marinula King, 1832 [M.filholi Hutton, 18781. Cassidula Fhssac, 1821, Ellobium and Pythia were discussed by Beny et al. (1967) and Sumikawa and Miura (1978) studied in detail the reproductive system of Ellobium chinense (Pfeiffer, 1854). -

Myanmar Protected Areas: Context, Current Status and Challenges”, One of the Outputs of of Biodiversity for Successful Conservations Programs
Myanmar Protected Areas Context, Current Status and Challenges Myanmar Protected Areas Forewords In memory of U Uga We, at the European Union, have been fully committed to environmental protection and conservation. Our engagement principles are embedded in the European Union Consensus on Development published in 2005 that outlines our support for biodiversity conservation, water and energy supply as well as the fight against climate change. Environmental protection underpins sustainable development, the more so in a country as Burma/ Myanmar where large parts of the population rely on natural resources for their food, shelter and energy needs. The world’s poorest are those directly dependent on natural resources for their daily survival and therefore most vulnerable to environmental hazards. This is why the European Union has made the protection and sustainable management of natural resources a priority in its poverty reduction policies. In Burma/Myanmar, a key instrument for cooperation has been the Non State Actors (NSA) Programme. The overall objective of the NSA programme is to support the emergence of civil society organizations and enable them to fight poverty across a range of sectors such as education, health and livelihoods. The project “Strengthening environmental NGOs in Burma/Myanmar” implemented jointly by Istituto Oikos and BANCA was the first environment initiative funded by the European Union under this programme. Sound environmental conservation is only effective if based on accurate data and analysis on the state of the environment. This project was a wonderful opportunity to build the knowledge base on biodiversity resources while, at the same time, building capacity for better data collection and analysis. -

As many habitats as possible were examined at each sites from sandy beaches, muddy sand, rocky shore, and coral reefs. A total of 306 species of gastropods were collected and had been classifi ed in53families 116genera.The most widespread species were Planaxis sulcatus (Planaxidae) and Polinices mammilla (Naticidae) found in 37 sites, followed by Echinolittorina malaccana (Littorinidae) in 35 sites. The highest diversity was 187 species in Trat whereas Koh Mark had the most abundance in this area. The lowest diversity was in Chanthaburi, 88 species, whereas Koh Nomsoa was the most abundant site. The diversity of gastropods in Chonburi was 152 species, whereas Koh Samaesarn and Koh Juang were the most abundant site. 137 species had been found in Rayong and Koh Munnai was the most abundant site. The data from this study had been compared with the resent studies in the late decade from the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea.The total gastropods in the late decade were 454 species 205 genera 69 families.
