As we see the deterioration of the institutions created and fostered after the Second World War to create a climate in which peace and prosperity could flourish in Europe and beyond, it is important to understand the role played by diplomacy in securing the stability and strengthening the shared values of freedom and democracy that have marked this era for the nations of the world. It is most instructive to read the Inaugural Address of President John F. Kennedy, in which he encouraged Americans not only to do good things for their own country, but to do good things in the world. The creation of the Peace Corps is an example of the kind of spirit that put young American volunteers into some of the poorest nations in an effort to improve the standard of living for people around the globe. We knew we were leaders; we knew that we had many political and economic and social advantages. There was an impetus to share this wealth. Generosity, not greed, was the motivation of that generation. Of course, this did not begin with Kennedy. It was preceded by the Marshall Plan, one of the only times in history that the conqueror decided to rebuild the country of the vanquished foe.

Unfortunately, after so many years, information becomes muddled. This project aims to take focus on just one small and misunderstood region. The Balkans showcase a rare combination of religions and ethnicities that are hard to find elsewhere. These are just a few of the many Jewish stories. Past, Present, and Future Greek Jews Work to Keep Heritage Alive In the crowded and chaotic Athens neighborhood of Monastiraki, there is an odd mix of local teenagers drinking coffee and tourists from all over Europe buying miniature Parthenon statues at exorbitant prices. It is also common to see groups of 30 or more Syrian refugees lying on tables in the sun. The neighborhood also holds last remnants of the Jewish Community of Athens. Tucked away among back roads and car repair shops there is a litter free street named “Melodoni” where a security guard stands in a booth near the middle of the street. On one side of the street is the only functioning Sephardic Synagogue in Athens.

Bosnia & Herzegovina of two of the three main ethnicities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely Bosnian Serbs and Bosnian Croatsestablished separate entities of the Republika Srpska and the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosniarespectively, which were unrecognized by the international community. Under the Washington Agreement ofhowever, Bosniaks were joined by Bosnian Croats of Herzeg-Bosnia, which was abolished Bosnia & Herzegovina this agreement, in support for the Republic by the formation of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovinaa sub-state joint entity. Inthe Dayton Peace Accords joined the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Serb entity, the Republika Srpskafrom that point onward recognized formally as a political sub-state entity without a right of secession, into the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina existed legally until it co-signed the Annex 4 of the Dayton Agreement, containing the constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 14 Decemberbut official documents reveal that the state existed until the end of when the implementation of the Dayton Agreement was finished and only then did it fully come into effect. The parliamentary elections led to a national assembly dominated by three ethnically based parties, which had formed a loose coalition to oust the communists from power.
