January – Aida cloth and Cross Using tear away and Aida cloth you can create some beautiful cross-stitch work in the hoop. Project: Mini kitchen wall calendar Supply List: 2 spools embroidery , thread, Sewline Glue Stick, 100mm hoop and template grid February – Thread Velvet What is velvet? A closely woven fabric of silk, cotton, or nylon, that has a thick short pile on one side. So, it that’s all it is, how about we “weave” some of our own Project: Thread Velvet Pillow Supply List: Havel Pro ripper, steam iron, 6 coordinating rayon embroidery thread, bobbin thread, 100mm hoop, -away stabilizer March – Embroidered Jewelry Embroidery isn’t just for embellishing, create custom embroidered jewelry! Using lace making and stiffening techniques, add some earring wires and you’ll have a pair of custom earrings. Project: Earrings Supply List: embroidery thread with matching bobbin, 100mm hoop, wash-away stabilizer, earring wires April – Lettering, Crayon Bag (with Mylar) Lettering is such a big part of why so many people get into embroidery. This month we’ll be using our built in lettering features to create a cute crayon tote. May – Folded Fabric Blocks Embroidery can be used for more than just . Come learn how to make a folded fabric quilt block in the hoop. Great for a decorative element in a purse, blocks for a new quilt, or a great element for a beautiful pillow. Project: Folded Fabric Quilted Trivet Supply List: 8” hoop, Insul-brite

June – Holo Shimmer water that waves Designs are important, but so is the thread selection. Try a bit of shimmer in your design using holoshimmer threads that glisten as the light hits, perfect for adding a ray of sunshine to your next design. Project: Lighthouse Sunglass Case

Supply List: 8” hoop, holoshimmer thread (or similar), assorted embroidery threads, foam batting July – 3D Embroidery Create designs that stand up. Typically reserved for free standing lace, there are now many designs out there that can be used to create new 3-dimensional projects for all types of occasions. Project: Holiday CupCake Topper Supply List: water soluble stabilizer, Terial magic, toothpicks August – Beautiful and precision placement Off the shelf garments are great, but your embroidery machine can make them better. Add pizzazz with some embellishments as we learn about design positioning. Project: Bring in an old shirt and learn how to add decorations to your buttonholes Supply List: old shirt (in wearable condition), thread to coordinate, water soluble marking pen, 1” x 6” ruler September – Fun with Fur Fur can be difficult to work with and even more difficult to keep looking nice after it has been worn a few times. Learn about dry toppers that are meant to be left under an embroidery for solving just this type of problem. Project: Winter hat with Fur Cuff Supply List: dry topper, heat a way stabilizer, thread snips October – Monogramming, embroidery placement and sizing Halloween is a short season but so big on embroidery designs. We’ll be working on how to pick the right design, determine the best size, and position it on a towel for optimum results. Project: Monogrammed Towel Supply List: Assorted embroidery threads, water soluble topper, air erasable marking pen 9” square ruler November – Density in Designs Not all airy designs are low density designs. We’ll examine a few heirloom designs and stabilizers to create the perfect combination for these airy but dense designs without having stabilizer shadow through our hand towel. Project: Heirloom hand towel Supply List: no show mesh stabilizer, linen-like towel, tonal (white, ivory and beiges) 50wt cotton threads, NEW sharp microtex needle (60 or 70 preferred) December - Metallic Thread Embroidery Holidays are fast approaching & everyone wants to work with metallics. We’ll help you figure out how to get them to work for you. 2016 Serger Club 3rd Saturday 10:30-12:30 January – Gentle Curves What better way to get a handle on your serger than to take charge. We’ll be making an apron with gently curved armholes as we get a handle on manipulating fabrics on our serger. Project: Apron Supply List: serger, 4 cones matching thread, scissors, iron February – Tough Seam Allowances Sergers can do just about anything. This month we'll concentrate on some of those things we find difficult. In this months projects we'll have to deal with thick seam allowances as well as serging around many small curves as we complete our table topper. Project: Dresdan Plate Table Topper Supply List: serger, 4 cones matching thread, scissors, hand needle, iron March – Fun with Fur Well maybe it is more of a furry knit fabric, but the problems are always there. You have to deal with the bulk, the trimming and the stretch. We’ll be playing around with the differential feed as well as working with the and the bias for the best results. Project: Fur hemmed hat Supply List: shears, four cones black thread, thread scissors

April – Strip Piecing Sergers for quilting? You bet. See how fast and accurate you can be when quilting on the serger. Project: Doll quilt (lap quilt size available for the over-achievers) Supply List: 4 cones medium neutral thread (beige or grey), rotary cutter, long ruler, mat, seam roller May – Lazy Lace Most of the time we work with cottons or fleece on sergers, but they are great with delicate fab rics too. Project: Lace cover-up Supply List: four cones beige thread, sharp dressmaker sheers, fresh needs, (or measurements of the person the cover-up is for)

June – THREADING & CLEANING SEMINAR Our tech will walk you through the care and maintenance of your serger in this lecture demo. Bring your machine and follow along or just watch as they demonstrate how to clean and check your serger. Then we’ll follow up with a threading and tension review. Project: none/lecture July – Denim for Blue, you add the Red/White

Denim is fun to work with, it has so much structure to it, it holds its’ own. This month we’ll play with pressure foot pressure as we get our machines to cleanly cut through layers of denim. Project: Denim wrap around (bar type) apron Supply List: dressmaker sheers, chalk marker, four cones of blue thread, red/white ribbons (for ties) August – made Easy Most sergers come with just the basic foot, but there are more feet available to allow you to expand the capabilities of your machine. This month we’ll be exploring the piping foot. Project: Piped Towel Topper Supply List: four cones light thread, piping foot, standard foot, scissors September – T-shirt Time Instead of making a t-shirt, bring in an assortment of t-shirts we can cut up and put together in a simple t-shirt quilt pillow. Project: T-shirt quilt pillow Supply List: assorted t-shirts we can cut up, dressmaker sheers, stuffing to make pillow form, batting scraps to back t-shirts November – Slippery Silk Even silk works well on a serger. Try adding a touch of class to your wardrobe with a simple silk clutch, made on the serger! Project: Silk Clutch Supply List: scissors, four cones neutral thread, fresh size 80 needles December – Ruffles all around Holiday trees skirts always seem to call out for a pretty . Well be adding ruffles and rolled hems to ours. Project: Mini Tree Skirt Supply List: decorative thread (success, designer 6 or equivalent), 4 cones red or green thread, scissors, knit picker, seam sealant (fray stoppa or fray check)
