14 June 2012: Bail Granted the State Police Brought Him Back the Next Day from the Unspecified Location to the Court It is a Shaivagamic tradition that one doesn’t eat until he offers his daily puja (ritualist worship) to Shiva-linga (deity). The State police stop His Divine Holiness from worship and the mainstream media publish this story to ridicule Him. 14 June 2012: Bail granted The State Police brought Him back the next day from the unspecified location to the Court. The bail was granted on the basis that there was no evidence for any crime in the complaint against Him. His Divine Holiness was free to go back home. However, the State Police executed the most deceptive part of the attack next. 52 Police take Him “Off-the-grid” As soon as His Divine Holiness comes out of the court hearing for the bail petition (which was granted to Him), 600 policemen surround Him. 53 The Ramanagara SP tells His Divine Holiness that he will take Him to a safe place. The 600 police men push His Divine Holiness into a car and take Him off. 54 600-battalion-men police force and additional paramilitary forces were deployed. They then parade Him throughout the city to showcase as a big terrorist has been arrested. Rs. 3 crore ($½ Million USD) of public taxpayers’ money is spent on this exercise. (as per Inspector General Bhaskar Rao) November 26, 2008, Mumbai terror attacks in the Taj Five Star Hotel. During the 2008 Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks, 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terrorist organisation, carried out a series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai, the financial capital of India. 164 people had died and 308 were wounded. During this attack the State failed to respond with speed, coordination, or proper investigation reports. It took 12 hours for the National Security Guard, whose members are trained in rescuing hostages, to get to The Taj as they didn’t receive the official go-ahead to mobilize. However in the case of dehumanization of His Divine Holiness, “speedy mechanism” was implemented by the Chief Minister and 600 battalion police and additional paramilitary forces were waiting for Him outside the court, to showcase Him as a terrorist and enemy of the State, dragging Him throughout the Bengaluru city - Silicon Valley of India - spending Rs. 3 crore ($½ Million USD) of public taxpayers’ money. 55 The State Superintendent of Police Anupam Agarwal grabs hold of His Divine Holiness to pose for the mainstream media mafia as to legitimize the off-the-grid illegal detainment, which is called “protective custody” in the legal language. Mainstream media aired false news, claiming the arrest was related to false rape allegations. CRIMES OF THE STATE POLICE ● Deliberate adjournment of the bail-hearing to facilitate arrest. ● Exposing His Divine Holiness to the planned mob lynch during arrest. ● Deliberately manhandling Him under the mob-eye to dehumanise Him. ● Detaining Him in an unknown location instead of a prison. ● Denying His religious right to offer a 2000-year-old unbroken tradition of worship. 14 June 2012: A deceptive police-attack, a “hijack” to kill - Attack 7 The police hijack Him in another direction Once the bail was given, His Divine Holiness was free as per law. A huge mob had gathered outside. The police told the disciples that they would escort Him out and take Him in their vehicle to the Aadheenam. 56 The guileless disciples already fearing a mob-lynch on His Divine Holiness thought it best to go with the Police plan. The moment His Divine Holiness entered the vehicle, the door closed and to the shock and horror of the disciples, the vehicle moved in the opposite direction on hitting the road. Once again, things went “off-the-grid” for the disciples. With racing hearts, they followed the police van as fast they could. Inside the vehicle, the Police displayed their deceitful fangs. The DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) SP Ramalingappa, took out a legal document written in local Kannada script (not readable by His Divine Holiness) and asked Him to sign on it saying that due to high security risk, they were going to take Him up to Hosur (Karnataka-Tamilnadu border) with protection, instead of the Aadheenam, and that the document needed to be signed to take His consent for the same. At first His Divine Holiness refused to sign, and asked to speak to His lawyer. The Police denied Him any call to lawyer. Meanwhile, the Bidadi Police Station Sub Inspector Vijayakumar intervened and gave Him “false” confidence that he has read it and it is the same as what was told, and that His Divine Holiness could sign on it. His Divine Holiness reluctantly signed the document. He had no clue however, that the vehicle was already moving in the wrong direction. The vehicle suddenly took a sharp entry into the District Magistrate’s (DM) Office at Ramanagara (the district where the monastery) and the gates were instantly closed and all entries blocked. The disciples froze in their track unable to reach their Guru. 57 58 Taken to the Mysore prison in illegal detainment. 59 At the District Magistrate’s Office Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda, the administrator was given entry after persistent pleadings to the gate guards about his required presence with His Divine Holiness. As he rushed in the District Magistrate’s court, he saw the entire place packed with police officers. The District Magistrate was seated high up as the judge. His Divine Holiness was made to stand alone in the accused stand for long, and the room was swarmed by CID in civilian clothes, Police Officers, and the Press. He did not know what was happening, when he had been granted bail already. Not waiting for His defense Counsel, the proceedings started. The DM informed Him that the State police had filed a complaint on Him to the DM under Section 107 and Section 151 of Cr.PC. The complaint was in view of the multiple “Law and Order” related incidents that took place at His Aadheenam the past few days. The planned one-sided attacks against Him were termed “Law and Order situations” and a threat for the entire Bidadi village (where the Aadheenam was located)! In reality, there was life-threat only for the disciples of His Divine Holiness living there. The “Big Lie” of a “Law and Order situation” was told again. Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda recounts the abnormally “high-alert high-security” zone that was created in the DM’s office that day, with the place swarming with CID officers in civilian clothes and press persons, while all entries were blocked for anyone else. Press persons were seen for a kilometer stretch outside the DM office. The CID officers were tracking and probing each and every move of anyone from the Aadheenam. 60 The Counsel to His Divine Holiness was yet to arrive. He was left alone to defend Himself. Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda paraphrases the words of His Divine Holiness when He started pleading humbly in front of the District Magistrate: I am not disturbing public peace. But if you feel that me being in here is going disturb the public peace, I will stay away from Bidadi. I will not have any Press Meet. Denied his lawyer, His Divine Holiness humbly pleads by Himself in front of the District Magistrate, “I am not disturbing public peace. But if you feel that me being in here is going to disturb the public peace, I will stay away from Bidadi. I will not have any Press Meet.” But the State Police intentions were otherwise. They wanted to keep Him and exterminate Him. The public prosecutor maliciously argued that He moving out will not solve the issue, and that he will continue to cause “trouble to public”. Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda paraphrases His Divine Holiness’ words thus: I was given a paper on which they asked me to sign, saying it was for my protection. I did not know a fresh case has been filed against me. Let me meet my lawyer.” But denying Him any right of defense, through an “abnormally rushed” proceedings, the DM directly passed 61 the order before the lawyer arrived. The most unlawful order was passed, remanding Him to 7 days of retention in the Mysore Central Prison. The Counsel arrived shortly. He requested for a copy of the FIR filed against His Divine Holiness and asked for time to prepare his arguments. Brushing aside his request amidst the “pre-meditated” operations, His Divine Holiness was taken away to the Mysore prison. And after that, the FIR copy was handed over to the lawyer! A disciple files “Habeas Corpus” petition - last hope to save His Life Meanwhile, information reached the Senior Counsels that His Divine Holiness was being illegally whisked away by the Police in the wrong direction. It was a high red-alert for the Counsels. They clearly saw that He had been taken off-the-grid yet again, this time outside the purview of the judiciary. To secure His life, it warranted nothing less than a “habeas corpus petition” which would jolt the police to release Him. The “habeas corpus” was the remedy available to the meanest against the mightiest in high-danger situations. They rushed the disciples to file the petition IMMEDIATELY against the State and Police for the ongoing unlawful acts. A habeas corpus petition means, requesting the Court to direct the Police to produce before it, “the person”, who is suspected to be in illegal detention, outside the purview of the Judiciary. The multiple attacks were all aligned towards finally invoking Section 107, 151 with the District Magistrate ensuring an arrest.

  • The Contemplative Life – Most Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj
The Contemplative Life – Most Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj. Most Revered Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj was the 15th President of the world -wide Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. In this article Most Revered Maharaj provides guidelines on how to lead a contemplative life citing many personal reminiscences of senior monks of the Ramakrishna tradition who lead inspiring spiritual lives. Source : Prabuddha Bharata – Jan 2007 SADHAN-BHAJAN or spiritual practice – japa, prayer and meditation – should play a very vital role in the lives of all. This is a sure way to peace despite all the hindrances that one has to face in daily life. The usual complaint is that it is very difficult to lead an inward life of sadhana or contemplation amidst the rush and bustle of everyday life. But with earnestness and unshakable determination one is sure to succeed. Sri Ramakrishna has said that a devotee should hold on to the feet of the Lord with the right hand and clear the obstacles of everyday life with the other. There are two primary obstacles to contemplative life. The first one is posed by personal internal weaknesses. One must have unswerving determination to surmount these. The second one consists of external problems. These we have to keep out, knowing them to be harmful impediments to our goal. For success in contemplative life, one needs earnestness and regularity. Study of the scriptures, holy company, and quiet living help develop our inner lives. I have clearly seen that all the great swamis of our Order have led a life of contemplation even in the midst of great distractions.

  • Sri Ramakrishna & His Disciples in Orissa
Preface Pilgrimage places like Varanasi, Prayag, Haridwar and Vrindavan have always got prominent place in any pilgrimage of the devotees and its importance is well known. Many mythological stories are associated to these places. Though Orissa had many temples, historical places and natural scenic beauty spot, but it did not get so much prominence. This may be due to the lack of connectivity. Buddhism and Jainism flourished there followed by Shaivaism and Vainavism. After reading the lives of Sri Chaitanya, Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother and direct disciples we come to know the importance and spiritual significance of these places. Holy Mother and many disciples of Sri Ramakrishna had great time in Orissa. Many are blessed here by the vision of Lord Jagannath or the Master. The lives of these great souls had shown us a way to visit these places with spiritual consciousness and devotion. Unless we read the life of Sri Chaitanya we will not understand the life of Sri Ramakrishna properly. Similarly unless we study the chapter in the lives of these great souls in Orissa we will not be able to understand and appreciate the significance of these places. If we go on pilgrimage to Orissa with same spirit and devotion as shown by these great souls, we are sure to be benefited spiritually. This collection will put the light on the Orissa chapter in the lives of these great souls and will inspire the devotees to read more about their lives in details. This will also help the devotees to go to pilgrimage in Orissa and strengthen their devotion.

Swami Prabuddhanandaji and myself met for the first time at the Belur Math in the year 1956 where both of us had come to receive our Brahmacharya-diksha—he from Bangalore and me from Bombay. Since then we had close connection with each other. We met again at the Belur Math in the year 1960 where we came for our Sannyasa-diksha from Most Revered Swami Sankaranandaji Maharaj. I admired his balanced approach to everything that had kept the San Francisco centre vibrant. In 2000 A.D. he had invited me to San Francisco to attend the Centenary Celebrations of the San Francisco centre. He took me also to Olema and other retreats on the occasion. Once he came just on a visit to meet the old Swami at the Belur Math. In sum, Swami Prabuddhanandaji was an asset to our Order, and his leaving us is a great loss.

1 The Beautiful Lady of my dream 2 A Danda Swami’s Tribute conveyed to the author by Swami Mangalananda Giri Something interesting happened that you will appreciate. An 84-year-old Danda Swami is staying at the ashram during the rains. He speaks very good English and frequently comes to my room. He asked for any book about Ma, and I told him to browse my “library” which now extends the full length of one wall. Without any prompting from me, he went directly to your book “In Her Perfect Love”, and I gladly lent it to him. After a day he came back and was literally raving about the book. He said, ‘If I sold everything in the world, it would not pay the price of this book. I’ve been mad for this book since I started it - reading it day and night.’ I told him I communicated with you and would pass on his enthusiasm. • Spiritual Conversations with Swami Shankarananda Swami Tejasananda English Translation by Swami Satyapriyananda (Continued from the Previous Issue)
2 THE ROAD TO WISDOM Swami Vivekananda on Significance of Symbols—III n the heart of all these ritualisms, there Istands one idea prominent above all the rest—the worship of a name. Those of you who have studied the older forms of Christianity, those of you who have studied the other religions of the world, perhaps have marked that there is this idea with them all, the worship of a name. A name is said to be very sacred. In the Bible we read that the holy name of God was considered sacred beyond compare, holy consciously or unconsciously, man found beyond everything. It was the holiest of all the glory of names. names, and it was thought that this very Again, we find that in many different Word was God. This is quite true. What is religions, holy personages have been this universe but name and form? Can you worshipped. They worship Krishna, they think without words? Word and thought worship Buddha, they worship Jesus, and so are inseparable. Try if anyone of you can forth. Then, there is the worship of saints; separate them. Whenever you think, you hundreds of them have been worshipped all are doing so through word forms. The one over the world, and why not? The vibration brings the other; thought brings the word, of light is everywhere. The owl sees it in the and the word brings the thought. Thus the dark. That shows it is there, though man whole universe is, as it were, the external cannot see it. To man, that vibration is only symbol of God, and behind that stands visible in the lamp, in the sun, in the moon, His grand name.
