Intensive Care Unit nurse at Fairfax Hospital in Thomas Wilson - actor best known for Falls Church, VA.     About Our Contributors Jeffrey R. Adams holds an M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law. He and his wife Karen Adams, who presented their jointly-authored paper at the 2007 UFL Conference, have worked until recently at Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda. They presently reside in Scottsville, Virginia with their five children. Helen Alvaré received her J.D. from Cornell University (1984) and her M.A. in theology from the Catholic University of America (1989). She has taught in the Catholic University of America School of Law and will join the law faculty at George Mason University in 2008. She has previously worked at the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, first in the Office of General Counsel and later as the Director of Information and Planning for the bishops’ pro-life office. She has often spoken for the bishops to the media and has testified on behalf of the bishops before federal congressional committees and lobbied members of Congress on federal legislation concerning abortion, health care and welfare reform. Christopher Anadale is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Conception Seminary College in rural northwestern Missouri. Prior to his appointment at Conception, he taught full time at Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Emory University in 2005. Roberta Bayer is currently teaching as an adjunct at George Mason University. She received her doctorate from the University of Notre Dame and has done graduate work in both Medieval Studies and Political Philosophy. She is educating her children at home.

    2020-21 Application for Participation in the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program — IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS — Established in 2007, the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program (CTG) provides an incentive for students to first complete an associate degree at a Virginia public two-year college before transferring to a participating Virginia four- year college or university as a means to reduce the overall cost towards completing a bachelor’s degree. In addition to paying lower tuition charges for their freshman and sophomore years while attending a two-year college, qualifying students may also receive a CTG award once they transfer to the participating four-year institution. To be eligible, the student must (subject to Code of Virginia §§23.1-623-727 and 8VAC 40-150): Be a first-time entering freshman (at any institution) no earlier than fall 2007. Be an undergraduate in-state student (Virginia domicile). Meet selective service requirements. Have received an associate degree at a Virginia two-year public institution. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 for the associate degree. Enroll into a Virginia four-year public college or university or a Virginia four-year private nonprofit college or university by the fall or spring immediately following completion of an associate degree (see list of participating institutions at the bottom of the next page). Enroll full-time into a degree program that is not for religious training or theological education. Have applied for financial aid by completing the federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the four-year institution’s published deadline.

(Video courtesy of Gellman Images) Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) honored Major League Baseball's Darrell Miller with its 4th annual Courage Award at a reception attended by more than 100 on October 21 in Arlington, Va. The award recognizes superior Catholic evangelization in sports. Miller played professionally with the California Angels as a catcher and outfielder from 1984-1988 and currently serves as the director of MLB's Urban Youth Academy. He has been a supporter of CAC since its inception in 2006, serving on the organization's Athlete Advisory Board and its speakers bureau. "Darrell Miller, a convert to the Catholic faith, has been a tremendous advocate for faith in athletics, both on and off the playing field," CAC President Ray McKenna said. "Through his tireless effort in helping establish baseball's Urban Youth Academy for inner city children and his eagerness to speak about his Catholic faith to groups large and small, Darrel is a shining example of the 'new evangelization' in the world of sports."     Criminal Justice Master of Science in Criminal Justice Criminal justice involves enforcing and maintaining laws, protecting U.S. citizens, and punishing individuals who commit crimes. A campus-based or online degree program in criminal justice provides students with a solid understanding of criminal justice and the related theories and concepts that apply to the legal and law enforcement fields. The programs include instruction on a variety of criminal justice topics, including criminology, corrections, forensic science, criminal law, criminal procedures, legal research, and law ethics. In addition to the criminal justice core courses, nearly all degree programs require general education courses to ensure students receive a well-rounded liberal arts education. General education courses assist individuals in effectively communicating with a wide range of people around the world. Students gain an understanding of their role in a diverse society, as well as their accountability in the world as a whole. The scope of the general education courses varies by programs, but majority of colleges and universities encourage students to complete their general education courses during the first year of coursework. Some schools do not allow students to register for upper-level coursework before completing the general education requirements.
