Fareham Today Summer 2013 Fareham Today Summer 2013 In this issue: Sheltered Housing with a Difference Lord Wilson School Opens its Doors Clothing and Textiles Recycling Keeping Fareham Clean & Tidy See the online version of Fareham Today at Your magazine from www.fareham.gov.uk/farehamtoday A message from the Executive Leader of Fareham Borough Council, Councillor Seán Woodward This year we welcome in the new Mayor, Councillor Susan Bayford, and along with her Consort and husband, Councillor Brian Bayford. The Mayor Making and Citizen of Honour awards ceremony, at Ferneham Hall, was a huge success. The Mayor has announced her chosen charities as The Rainbow Centre for Adult Rehabilitation, the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, and Tradissar RDA (Riding for the Disabled). The Rainbow Centre’s aim is to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, stroke, head injury, cerebral palsy and their families through conductive education. The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity represents all those who are serving and have served along with their families. The charity makes grants with a broad reach, supporting not only military charities which provide help in times of need, but also grants to help those who serve today. Tradissar RDA (Riding for the Disabled) Group provides lessons for both mentally and physically disabled children and adults. In addition to the opportunity to learn to ride or expand upon current skills, they offer the chance to learn to ride side saddle. The new Mayor's Cadet has been appointed for 2013/14 – 17 year old leading Cadet, Kirsty-Nicolle Wright. Kirsty joined Warsash Sea Cadets in 2010 and has worked hard to gain many new skills and qualifications. I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Kirsty and to this year’s Citizens of Honour; Ken Charman and Marjorie Wise, and Young Citizen of the Year, David Hawkins for their outstanding voluntary contributions to the community. We received over 5,000 votes to name the new community and Welborne was declared the winner – so thank you to everyone who took part. And finally, I sincerely welcome all comments and suggestions on how you would like to improve the Borough. In fact we have recently started a programme of reviews throughout the Council looking at how we deliver our services through the eyes of our customers. We hope that this will further improve your experience when dealing with us. So please do let me know your thoughts and ideas, which I am always keen to hear. Join our e-panel and help improve services! If you live in the Borough and are aged 18 or over, you can comment on topics relating to Fareham Borough Council and our partners online. If you’re aged between 13 and 19 you can join our young persons’ e-panel. The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. In those days the Guide covered TV as well as radio, which could only manage to fill two pages – but then there were only 19 “ILR” stations.

  • BBC Local Radio Service Licence
BBC Local Radio Service Licence. Issued May 2013 BBC Local Radio This service licence describes the most important characteristics of BBC Local Radio, including how it contributes to the BBC’s public purposes. Service Licences are the core of the BBC’s governance system. They aim to provide certainty for audiences and stakeholders about what each BBC service should provide. The Trust uses service licences as the basis for its performance assessment and as the basis for its consideration of any proposals for change to the UK public services from the BBC Executive. A service may not change in a way that breaches its service licence without Trust approval. The Trust presumes that any proposed change to a stated Key Characteristic of a licence will require it to undertake a Public Value Test. Should it decide not to carry out a Public Value Test before approving any such change, then it must publish its reasons in full. This Service Licence covers all BBC Local Radio stations in England. Each of the 39 stations is described in Annex II of this licence Part I: Key characteristics of the service 1. Remit The remit of BBC Local Radio is to provide a primarily speech-based service of news, information and debate to local communities across England. Speech output should be complemented by music. The target audience should be listeners aged 50 and over, who are not well-served elsewhere, although the service may appeal to all those interested in local issues. There should be a strong emphasis on interactivity and audience involvement.
